@@azuroslazuli6948 Simple. Because not everyone has a photographic memory, and (I'm not discrediting the Sonic franchise) they have more important things to worry about than Sonic, like school, exams, jobs, families, bills, rent... the list goes on. Really not that hard to understand.
For the third movie, what if Shadow pushed tails to becoming braver? Let’s say he beats sonic and knuckles down in a fight and they’re injured badly. Shadow’s about to kill them, but then tails steps in ready to protect them. Shadow: “You really think a puny little coward like you can protect them from me?!”
Heh actually that would be a pretty good way to do it, and would be an awesome call back to what I consider the best moment for Tails in any form of media. That being the episode where he stands up to Shadow for an ENTIRE EPISODE using every trick he can think of until he's forced to just try to fight. He's awesome in general for Sonic X but that moment will always go down as my favorite one from him and if Sonic 3 called back to it I'd love it so much.
They literally did that in Sonic X. They had Tails protect his girlfriend from Shadow for a FULL EPISODE! Then he had to freaking kill her at the end of the series. This kid just can't catch a damn break.
@thedarkknight2424 I'm more mad about it because of why they did it and not because it happened. And this is something I came to realize recently. The purpose of killing her was to get things back to the status quo at the end. It had nothing to do with developing any characters, because Tails' arc had already peaked when he protected Cosmo from Shadow. THAT was his finest moment, nobly standing up to someone to protect a person he cared about, instead of needing someone else's help to do it like he usually does. He had grown past that and was now able to stand on his own two feet. Making Tails kill Cosmo at the end isn't just wrong and isn't just a betrayal of what he went through as well as the audience that was rooting for him, but it fundamentally hurt his development in favor of getting things back to a status quo, because they didn't want any real change. And not just there, but it hurt his development in the long run. This is a fact that became apparent for over a decade after this episode aired. The Sonic franchise hasn't undergone any kind of telling change in years. In fact, Tails has regressed to being the sidekick that needs to be rescued. This is why I'm hopeful that Ian Flynn can commit to what was seemingly promised in Frontiers, that change is going to come for the characters and that it will be change for the better. If Sega brought back Cosmo and made her canon, then for their part that could be truly symbolic of their desire to accept that kind of change. Nothing says that someone is willing to embrace change more than making adjustments to the dynamic.
If there is something I’ll praise the movie for doing, they didn’t do that typical cliche “kid’s movie” bullshit of having Sonic and Tails banter and separate from one another, only to find that they’re sad and lonely… and can’t do things alone. The filmmakers were smart in making Sonic and Tails have this incredibly strong bond and not falling into anything that would drag their relationship. Same can be said with Sonic and Tom Wachowski, how Sonic didn’t have a whole “your not my dad” crisis only to accept him in the end. They were close friends but then Sonic accepted him as a father figure with his new wingmen, Tails and Knuckles
Oh yeah I definetly hate it so much and you need to be a really good writer to make it work. I did not want them to attempt it for Tails though, and thank god they did'nt maybe later on they can have some kind of argument if it's earned but for this and the next movie we need to see the strong bond Sonic and him have.

Sonic 2 nailed the characters so perfectly, and Tails is no exception! Thank you Jeff Fowler! And I really appreciate them for getting Colleen (Tails' voice actor in the games) to voice him, instead of getting some big name celebrity.

I actually didn't realize there were people who didn't like movie Tails. When I finally got around to watching the movie a few months ago I really liked this character and I thought it was awesome that they brought back the voice actress from the games. I've always thought that the current voice of tails from the games is the best one even if the character himself is not exactly being written all that well.
I think there's exactly five people that didn't like him or something. Because on most videos I've seen, there isn't a single person that doesn't like movie Tails. Most people are like, 'He's so FLUFFY! Protect him!'.

If you've not seen it yet and want something where Tails is also given some respect and a chance to shine and stand as an equal by Sonic's side, as he should be, check out Sonic and Tails R on youtube. He does more in the 10 part radio drama than he's done in the past 10 years of the Meta Era.
Let's hope that in Sonic movie 3 they can get Shadow's character right as well since his character has been kinda bad in the 2010's game's... actually his character has been pretty bad even earlier than the 2010's. Shadow is my favourite character in the entire Sonic series so hopefully they can get his character right in the third movie.
Go check out Sonic and Tails R episode 6. It's probably the best best he's been written in years and features the voice talents of a little known act by the name of Jason as the Ultimate Lifeform.
Shadow was an amnesiac and Tramautic Brain Injury victim in his game, plus you can't use Chaos Spear because it was lost so need firearms until Devil Doom. Shadow is only how he is in 06 because of what happened in Last Story, he didn't just randomly became chill, calm, over his past and a G.U.N. Agent.
We need Sonic movie 3 to remind the world that shadow is a hardcore badass who'll keep fighting even if the world hates his guts and not some edgelord who you'll find at your local hotopic.

Yeah. It is way better when someone who is actually right for the role and fits the character is selected instead of a big name for the sake of having a big name. More evidence that Tails' character arc isn't finished can be found in "Drone Home", a short that came with the dvd release of the movie. In the short, Tails shows he's still scared of new threats and relies on Sonic for extra help and direction. Along with some other stuff like Sonic having trouble coordinating a team and Knuckles having little patience, I think it's pretty clear they want to continue their character arcs, especially Tails, in the third movie. I think you can still find the full short on RUclips, and despite it not being perfect, I think its still great, and it sets up the next movie very well

I love how the literal SECOND Tails was able to, he got on that plane and Flew to grab sonic and Knuckles, no thoughts of fear or anything, just DEAD SET READY to help out even though he could easily get hurt or even killed. What a good boy, everyone needs a best buddy like Tails.
Another fantastic analysis video, PJ. I really hope Tails gets a lot more spotlight in Sonic Movie 3. I mean, he's pretty much Sonic and Knuckles little brother at the end of the film and it would be so unfair for him to get over"shadow"ed by other characters.
I think Tails will definitely get screentime in the third film. I believe that film will have him complete his character arc and become the Hero that he is meant to be. It would be an absolute shame if they bench him after setting up his character arc with this film.
He's definitely going to get some screentime in the third film. If it's the last movie, then hopefully he completes his arc. Otherwise, if they keep going with the movies after the next one, hopefully it'll at least advance his character.
@thedarkknight2424 Most people love Tails no matter what. It's just a very loud minority, most of whom don't even play the games, that are whining about him. As for completing his arc, as I said, it depends. If they make Movie 3 the last one, it can be more localized. But if they keep going after movie 3, then it should be a longer and more fleshed out arc over the course of the movies. But I will say this. If they're planning to do more than three movies, they're going to have to have more characters than just Sonic and Shadow go Super. You only get so much leverage out of having the same two characters do everything in the story. And if Sonic and Shadow are the only two characters that ever go Super, people will get bored of it really quickly and start saying that they're just making the same movie over and over again. There's a reason that I had every character go Super at some point in my story (and it wasn't just because it was a sequel to Sonic X which already had 78 episodes of the same characters using the same powers time and again, although that did contribute to it).
@thedarkknight2424 I don't think it's as bad anymore. The movies are doing alot of things right, and the producers AND Jeff Fowler seem to know their stuff when it comes to Sonic (as well as treating him like a person and not just a blue guy that runs fast). Plus, they've got Ian Flynn doing the games now, and a great cartoon series. So I think we're in much better shape than we were in back when Sonic Forces came out.
I just rewatched the movie tonight and I am glad they removed Tails from the temple scene as it was a pivotal moment between Sonic and Knuckles. Sonic needed to fight Knuckes on his own as well as being just them two for the beach scene afterwards.
What I like about this is how they took Tails' faulty translator from Colors and made some actual funny jokes around it (unlike what they did in Colors)
Were they ? This is a genuine question. I didn't get to play the Wii version, only the DS version where the translator works just fine. And from what I've seen, the translator jokes weren't really making me laugh. Maybe you could quote a funny example ?

Seeing as Sonic the hedgehog 3 takes inspiration from Sonic Adventure 2, where he's shown being the most brave id say, i think the next film will be at least the middle of his arc. Either way, his character arc has only just begun.
It’s so satisfying seeing sonic as a whole heal. The 2010s basically destroyed everything about sonic, from the characters, to the storytelling, to the gameplay, and so on. Seeing tails actually kick ass and be an integral part of the story the way we knew him in the past is AWESOME. And seeing everything frontiers is doing, this series is in a VERY good spot right now. Hell, Sonic’s even gaining popularity in Japan now, and he’s NEVER been popular there before! Can’t wait to see what’s next!

I liked how in the ancient temple in the mountains Tails was always walking on ahead. Despite not being a "field guy" beforehand he was perfectly ok just going in without cowering in fear of any potential traps even to the point where Sonic wasn't in the lead at that point.
I hope in the next movie we'll see a showdown between Tails and Agent Stone, instead of Eggman, on the ARK. Both of them are the same. Willing to do anything for their role model.
Tails in my opinion is very likable. However, I will say his character arc could've been better. His character arc is based on him wanting to be brave like Sonic. But, there isn't a moment where Tails' arc felt completed. There isn't a moment where Tails felt like he doesnt feel scared anymore and that he learns to be brave and heroic and overcome his insecurity. The only way to fix this is to show a moment where Tails overcomes his insecurity. Nothing too complicated, just show a moment where Tails overcomes his insecurity. So his character development either comes off as rushed or unclear. But, don't know if it's a story problem or that means that Tails is poorly written and underdeveloped in this movie. What do you think?
For me, it is just an issue with character focus. The focus of this film was clearly on knuckles and, as seen with the film, that was for the better cause his character is fantastic. Because of this, it feels like Tails had less focus in this film, so there wouldn't be enough time to have him go through a complete arc without sacrificing development from other characters, which could be bad. With what we have seen with Tails in this film, his character is being established so that his character arc can be fully completed in the next film, which will hopefully leave enough time to also focus on Shadows character.
Given that this is at least going to be a trilogy, if not a SERIES of movies, it makes sense that not everything would be resolved in a single movie. Luke didn't become a fully fledged Jedi in A New Hope. This was just the introduction for Tails, and given how Jeff Fowler was de-virginized to Sonic, there's a good chance that Tails is going to have a major arc later on.

SPOILERS FOR SONIC FRONTIERS . . . . . . Seeing Tails actually acknowledges his insecurities, how his character has fallen and that he downgraded to someone independent to someone who just needs saving and actually wanting to change, grow out of his confort zone, go out to the world alone and do better by himself, helping Sonic not only as Sonic's smart friend but as another independent hero who's just as capable as him, gives me hope for Tails to become a great character once again.
I love this movie so much. My only real complaint is that they spent way too long on that one wedding scene. They coulda done so much more with that time.

Great video. I love Movie Tails and I’m happy that they got a talented voice actor for him, especially someone with past experience. I do agree that they could have cut down on the wedding scene to flesh out his character and maybe show more of his backstory.

Im really happy with how the writers have basically fixed the characters and have now properly written them! This is why I'm super excited for shadow in sonic 3, because I know these writers are definitely capable of restoring shadows' character! The only thing I'm really worried about is that they not only are using SA-2 as inspiration for his character but Shadow 05. The newer writers hopefully wont fuak up shadows character because they use the game with his name that's poorly written.
We’re about 85% of the way there with making tails redeemed from Sega’s mishandlings of him in the games. And I know in the 3rd movie, that last 15% can and most likely will happen!

Movie Tails was really epic to see and felt very epic when at first he was shy and scared but grow a strong bond with Sonic as well as Knuckles in the end, leading him to become a hero of his own. I disagree with people saying he got completely overshadowed by Knuckles and not having enough screentime. For Movie 3 I would like to see Tails having a more focused rivalry with Eggman and having his solo battle with Eggman as well and at the end of Movie 3, I would like to see Tails have some bonding with Eggman too. Also PJ, I would like to ask what is the next video going to be about and will you be making a video about Knuckles's Bat rival as well at a later time where she goes from being an important character in being Shadow's sidekick as well as being Knuckles's rival and Knuckles's love interest to be a side character who most people perv on until she was written well in the IDW comics which is arguably her best character portrayal

@@rickyrackey7930 I know, but you got to know that Jeff, along some people at Blur Studio only know the Shadow in his 2005 game, the game that got his character so wrong. Also, the writers of the movies are using that same game as reference. I am still excited for the third movie though, but just taking that in accountablity!

I kind of feel Tails' backstory should come up more when he's having to fight his inner demons. Like we see the people putting him down, breaking down his confidence. But then remembering the trials he faced on his own to warn Sonic. And how he got to not only meet his idol, but also gets to join his family.
Not justifying Tails watching Sonic’s everyday life…. But Sonic was also doing that in the first movie with the Donut Lord, Pretzel Lady, and pretty much everyone in Green Hills. In regards to the character I absolutely adored Tails in this movie. I first became familiar with the voice in Sonic Boom and hearing Colleen in the movie was phenomenal, and even though they do the typical Fanboy lines it works for the point Tails character is at right now. I am certain that in the third movie Tails character will grow more independent and have a similar Arc to SA2. Third movie may introduce Amy and Rouge along with Shadow, so it’ll be interesting to see how the writers tackle all the characters. Given what we’ve gotten so far I’m confident the writers will stay true to what works, and stay clear of what doesn’t.
Honestly the Sonic movies are shock they're really good I mean you never expected that from a video game movie let alone actual characters and great storytelling I'm really looking forward to the third one
I am late but I am able to finally watch Sonic 2 and I loved Tails so much in this movie. Honestly all characters (Sonic, Knuckles and Tails) are portrayed very nicely in this movie, plus more action and more pacing in storytelling. I liked the second movie more than the first movie. I'm looking forward to Sonic 3 to see Shadow the Hedgehog, but also to see if Tail's arc will be explored more there. Unrelated but I liked the little short animation where I got to see Sonic and Tails enjoy hearing a robot recite a poem, lol.
I'll look into that after the release of Sonic frontiers. It will give me a chance to talk about his character in that game, as well some other appearances that I missed like Sonic Unleashed.
i love the second movie so much and i was so overjoyed to see Tails and even more over the moon about Colleen O'Shaughnessey getting to voice him, but you are so so correct about the "show don't tell" aspects about his character. I think the entire russian bar and dance off scene would have benefited from a flashback showcasing Tails' ostracization, cause while Sonic never belonged on Earth before Tom and Maddie, it was because he had to remain hidden and couldn't reveal himself to anybody, which is very different from Tails' isolation, which was purely his village rejecting him outright and relentlessly bullying him for his tails. Like the scene where the bar patrons are calling them freaks, would have loved like a single flashback to a young Tails running from a similar scene, and he can't do that now [in the bar scene] cause he's surrounded, and then he won't cause Sonic is encouraging him not to/to stand up for himself. Also occurred to me that perhaps he would have been sent to live with Longclaw because of his Tails labeling him as 'different', just as Sonic's speed did for him, but she was dead/missing by the time he was born so he was stuck in his village. I’m wondering if Tails can also generate electricity like Sonic and Knuckles but it doesn’t show often cuz he seldom gets mad. That would definitely be something epic to put in the third movie
The 1st movie already did great on tails, the games did him so dirty im so glad the movie focused his character arc a bit more. Hes my favourite character personally. I hope the 2nd will continue down this road an show a bit more on his backstory. I also hope the 2nd wont only focus on Shadow. Hes a great character but hes so over rated. I hope they they balance it inbetween characters instead of only shadow and sonic getting the spotlight.

You know, I've never understood why people are complaining about Tails watching Sonic. I mean, in the first movie, Sonic literally watched over a town of people for years. Like, if you want to bash Tails for that, ok. But you have to bash Sonic too. Besides, that's kinda the reason why I think their friendship really worked. Because Sonic knows what it's like to not have any friends and to watch from afar and admire someone else. So Sonic has a personal connection that makes him want to support Tails. So that's why I think it worked.
Great video!!! I do agree!!! Tails in Sonic Movie 2 is so cute, adorable, and wholesome!!! The writing for him is very well done!!! I do think he was a bit sidelined in the film and wish he had a little more screentime. I do agree though that he can definitely get more screentime in Sonic 3 and that his full character arc has yet to be completed!!! So glad that Colleen is able to reprise her role as the two-tailed fox in the movies as well!!! She really knows the character inside and out and she is so passionate and loves the role!!!
If I have any problems with the Movie, it's that there aren't any songs from the games (aside from Green Hill), because I would liked to hear some of it during some scenes like the Siberian Dance, Team Sonic vs Robotnik or Tails' arrival, but this is half fixed thanks to the RUclipsr Ryan Daly. Also, for the Sonic Adventure 2 cutscene where Robotnik blows Sonic ups, I feel like Tails should have at least been shocked and maybe cried a little at first. Don't get me wrong, I love that scene, I just feel like they excluded Tails' reaction from Sonic supposed death.
Tails literally saved Station Square, and all by himself too, and yet in the 2010 games he’s a complete coward, this movie wrote Tails as he was originally, a scared kid that was bullied, turns into the guy that helped saved the town, I mean, his scared moments make more sense in this movie, like instead of being scared of everyone like Game Tails, he’s scared of things he’s never done before. This movie really shows how much Tails has developed and learned.
This was a good look into tails character in the movie and I completely agree with you in what you said. Especially with how they’ve portrayed him in recent games making him take a huge back step almost as if he’s useless without sonic and needs sonic to save the day. I hope the next movie follows the trend of the last two and puts focus on tails and shadows characters and most likely will include Amy it feels weird that she hasn’t shown up yet. Game tails is being fixed too. Frontiers tried to fix his character's biggest issues. We need to see what happens next but solid work was done to fix the core cast in Frontiers.
Imagine this, a video where you talk about Infinite, how he was brutally wasted and poorly written, and how to improve his character in the game, because if they had done it right, he could be an equal or even better villain than Neo Metal Sonic, Chaos and even Mephiles. Yeah, that would be interesting. I will put up a poll soon for some characters to analyse, and it will include Infinite. But I agree, Infinite had so much potential that was just wasted.
I won’t say this is a perfect film… But I will say the human scenes are necessary, because they are important to Sonic’s life. If the scenes weren’t there, there would always be those wondering “what’s happening with the humans?”, even if it’s only the wedding scene. This is an example of failing both ways. Showing the Wedding Scene gets people upset they aren’t getting more Screen time with Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. HOWEVER, if we focused on the three titular characters that much, people would wonder “what’s going on with the humans?” because of their importance to the story. Beyond Sonic’s family, we’re introduced to GUN, which has been important to multiple Sonic Games. If we didn’t focus on the wedding scenes, we would lost a lot of context with GUN. It’s a no win scenario.
Yeah, it's a double edged sword that can never pay off. It would either be that there is too much time with the humans, or not enough time with the humans.

Heh actually that would be a pretty good way to do it, and would be an awesome call back to what I consider the best moment for Tails in any form of media. That being the episode where he stands up to Shadow for an ENTIRE EPISODE using every trick he can think of until he's forced to just try to fight. He's awesome in general for Sonic X but that moment will always go down as my favorite one from him and if Sonic 3 called back to it I'd love it so much.
They literally did that in Sonic X. They had Tails protect his girlfriend from Shadow for a FULL EPISODE! Then he had to freaking kill her at the end of the series. This kid just can't catch a damn break.
@thedarkknight2424 I'm more mad about it because of why they did it and not because it happened. And this is something I came to realize recently. The purpose of killing her was to get things back to the status quo at the end. It had nothing to do with developing any characters, because Tails' arc had already peaked when he protected Cosmo from Shadow. THAT was his finest moment, nobly standing up to someone to protect a person he cared about, instead of needing someone else's help to do it like he usually does. He had grown past that and was now able to stand on his own two feet.
Making Tails kill Cosmo at the end isn't just wrong and isn't just a betrayal of what he went through as well as the audience that was rooting for him, but it fundamentally hurt his development in favor of getting things back to a status quo, because they didn't want any real change. And not just there, but it hurt his development in the long run. This is a fact that became apparent for over a decade after this episode aired. The Sonic franchise hasn't undergone any kind of telling change in years. In fact, Tails has regressed to being the sidekick that needs to be rescued. This is why I'm hopeful that Ian Flynn can commit to what was seemingly promised in Frontiers, that change is going to come for the characters and that it will be change for the better.
If Sega brought back Cosmo and made her canon, then for their part that could be truly symbolic of their desire to accept that kind of change. Nothing says that someone is willing to embrace change more than making adjustments to the dynamic.
I'm very happy that Tails is not just a coward, but a lovable and healthy genius boy.
I hope he gets the same treatment at Frontiers

If there is something I’ll praise the movie for doing, they didn’t do that typical cliche “kid’s movie” bullshit of having Sonic and Tails banter and separate from one another, only to find that they’re sad and lonely… and can’t do things alone. The filmmakers were smart in making Sonic and Tails have this incredibly strong bond and not falling into anything that would drag their relationship.
Same can be said with Sonic and Tom Wachowski, how Sonic didn’t have a whole “your not my dad” crisis only to accept him in the end. They were close friends but then Sonic accepted him as a father figure with his new wingmen, Tails and Knuckles
Oh yeah I definetly hate it so much and you need to be a really good writer to make it work. I did not want them to attempt it for Tails though, and thank god they did'nt maybe later on they can have some kind of argument if it's earned but for this and the next movie we need to see the strong bond Sonic and him have.

I actually didn't realize there were people who didn't like movie Tails. When I finally got around to watching the movie a few months ago I really liked this character and I thought it was awesome that they brought back the voice actress from the games. I've always thought that the current voice of tails from the games is the best one even if the character himself is not exactly being written all that well.

Let's hope that in Sonic movie 3 they can get Shadow's character right as well since his character has been kinda bad in the 2010's game's... actually his character has been pretty bad even earlier than the 2010's. Shadow is my favourite character in the entire Sonic series so hopefully they can get his character right in the third movie.
Go check out Sonic and Tails R episode 6. It's probably the best best he's been written in years and features the voice talents of a little known act by the name of Jason as the Ultimate Lifeform.
Shadow was an amnesiac and Tramautic Brain Injury victim in his game, plus you can't use Chaos Spear because it was lost so need firearms until Devil Doom. Shadow is only how he is in 06 because of what happened in Last Story, he didn't just randomly became chill, calm, over his past and a G.U.N. Agent.
We need Sonic movie 3 to remind the world that shadow is a hardcore badass who'll keep fighting even if the world hates his guts and not some edgelord who you'll find at your local hotopic.

More evidence that Tails' character arc isn't finished can be found in "Drone Home", a short that came with the dvd release of the movie. In the short, Tails shows he's still scared of new threats and relies on Sonic for extra help and direction. Along with some other stuff like Sonic having trouble coordinating a team and Knuckles having little patience, I think it's pretty clear they want to continue their character arcs, especially Tails, in the third movie.
I think you can still find the full short on RUclips, and despite it not being perfect, I think its still great, and it sets up the next movie very well

I really hope Tails gets a lot more spotlight in Sonic Movie 3. I mean, he's pretty much Sonic and Knuckles little brother at the end of the film and it would be so unfair for him to get over"shadow"ed by other characters.
I think Tails will definitely get screentime in the third film. I believe that film will have him complete his character arc and become the Hero that he is meant to be. It would be an absolute shame if they bench him after setting up his character arc with this film.
He's definitely going to get some screentime in the third film. If it's the last movie, then hopefully he completes his arc. Otherwise, if they keep going with the movies after the next one, hopefully it'll at least advance his character.
@thedarkknight2424 Most people love Tails no matter what. It's just a very loud minority, most of whom don't even play the games, that are whining about him.
As for completing his arc, as I said, it depends. If they make Movie 3 the last one, it can be more localized. But if they keep going after movie 3, then it should be a longer and more fleshed out arc over the course of the movies.
But I will say this. If they're planning to do more than three movies, they're going to have to have more characters than just Sonic and Shadow go Super. You only get so much leverage out of having the same two characters do everything in the story. And if Sonic and Shadow are the only two characters that ever go Super, people will get bored of it really quickly and start saying that they're just making the same movie over and over again.
There's a reason that I had every character go Super at some point in my story (and it wasn't just because it was a sequel to Sonic X which already had 78 episodes of the same characters using the same powers time and again, although that did contribute to it).
@thedarkknight2424 I don't think it's as bad anymore. The movies are doing alot of things right, and the producers AND Jeff Fowler seem to know their stuff when it comes to Sonic (as well as treating him like a person and not just a blue guy that runs fast). Plus, they've got Ian Flynn doing the games now, and a great cartoon series. So I think we're in much better shape than we were in back when Sonic Forces came out.

I just rewatched the movie tonight and I am glad they removed Tails from the temple scene as it was a pivotal moment between Sonic and Knuckles. Sonic needed to fight Knuckes on his own as well as being just them two for the beach scene afterwards.

What I like about this is how they took Tails' faulty translator from Colors and made some actual funny jokes around it (unlike what they did in Colors)

Seeing as Sonic the hedgehog 3 takes inspiration from Sonic Adventure 2, where he's shown being the most brave id say, i think the next film will be at least the middle of his arc. Either way, his character arc has only just begun.

It’s so satisfying seeing sonic as a whole heal. The 2010s basically destroyed everything about sonic, from the characters, to the storytelling, to the gameplay, and so on. Seeing tails actually kick ass and be an integral part of the story the way we knew him in the past is AWESOME. And seeing everything frontiers is doing, this series is in a VERY good spot right now. Hell, Sonic’s even gaining popularity in Japan now, and he’s NEVER been popular there before! Can’t wait to see what’s next!

I liked how in the ancient temple in the mountains Tails was always walking on ahead. Despite not being a "field guy" beforehand he was perfectly ok just going in without cowering in fear of any potential traps even to the point where Sonic wasn't in the lead at that point.
I hope in the next movie we'll see a showdown between Tails and Agent Stone, instead of Eggman, on the ARK. Both of them are the same. Willing to do anything for their role model.
That would actually be a vry interesting dichotomy to explore between them, and It would give more credence to Stone's appearance in the third film.

Tails in my opinion is very likable. However, I will say his character arc could've been better. His character arc is based on him wanting to be brave like Sonic. But, there isn't a moment where Tails' arc felt completed. There isn't a moment where Tails felt like he doesnt feel scared anymore and that he learns to be brave and heroic and overcome his insecurity. The only way to fix this is to show a moment where Tails overcomes his insecurity. Nothing too complicated, just show a moment where Tails overcomes his insecurity. So his character development either comes off as rushed or unclear.
But, don't know if it's a story problem or that means that Tails is poorly written and underdeveloped in this movie.

For me, it is just an issue with character focus. The focus of this film was clearly on knuckles and, as seen with the film, that was for the better cause his character is fantastic. Because of this, it feels like Tails had less focus in this film, so there wouldn't be enough time to have him go through a complete arc without sacrificing development from other characters, which could be bad. With what we have seen with Tails in this film, his character is being established so that his character arc can be fully completed in the next film, which will hopefully leave enough time to also focus on Shadows character.
Kind of the point Jonny boy. He isn't suppose to have his entire character arc be wrapped in his introduction.

Given that this is at least going to be a trilogy, if not a SERIES of movies, it makes sense that not everything would be resolved in a single movie. Luke didn't become a fully fledged Jedi in A New Hope. This was just the introduction for Tails, and given how Jeff Fowler was de-virginized to Sonic, there's a good chance that Tails is going to have a major arc later on.

Seeing Tails actually acknowledges his insecurities, how his character has fallen and that he downgraded to someone independent to someone who just needs saving and actually wanting to change, grow out of his confort zone, go out to the world alone and do better by himself, helping Sonic not only as Sonic's smart friend but as another independent hero who's just as capable as him, gives me hope for Tails to become a great character once again.

Im really happy with how the writers have basically fixed the characters and have now properly written them! This is why I'm super excited for shadow in sonic 3, because I know these writers are definitely capable of restoring shadows' character! The only thing I'm really worried about is that they not only are using SA-2 as inspiration for his character but Shadow 05. The newer writers hopefully wont fuak up shadows character because they use the game with his name that's poorly written.
We’re about 85% of the way there with making tails redeemed from Sega’s mishandlings of him in the games. And I know in the 3rd movie, that last 15% can and most likely will happen!

The movies were essentialy a saving grace for the characters after the pain that was the sonic games in the 2010s
Movie Tails was really epic to see and felt very epic when at first he was shy and scared but grow a strong bond with Sonic as well as Knuckles in the end, leading him to become a hero of his own. I disagree with people saying he got completely overshadowed by Knuckles and not having enough screentime. For Movie 3 I would like to see Tails having a more focused rivalry with Eggman and having his solo battle with Eggman as well and at the end of Movie 3, I would like to see Tails have some bonding with Eggman too.
Also PJ, I would like to ask what is the next video going to be about and will you be making a video about Knuckles's Bat rival as well at a later time where she goes from being an important character in being Shadow's sidekick as well as being Knuckles's rival and Knuckles's love interest to be a side character who most people perv on until she was written well in the IDW comics which is arguably her best character portrayal
I will be putting up a poll a bit later to have the community vote on the next character to analyse. I have other video ideas to celebrate hitting 40k which I will get started on during the weekend. I will definitely do a video on Rouge at some point. Who knows, with luck, she could be next.

I kind of feel Tails' backstory should come up more when he's having to fight his inner demons. Like we see the people putting him down, breaking down his confidence. But then remembering the trials he faced on his own to warn Sonic. And how he got to not only meet his idol, but also gets to join his family.
Yeah, I would have liked to see more of what he went through rather than just being told it.

What i love about movie Tails is that he's the only character with his original voice actress.
Not justifying Tails watching Sonic’s everyday life…. But Sonic was also doing that in the first movie with the Donut Lord, Pretzel Lady, and pretty much everyone in Green Hills.
In regards to the character I absolutely adored Tails in this movie. I first became familiar with the voice in Sonic Boom and hearing Colleen in the movie was phenomenal, and even though they do the typical Fanboy lines it works for the point Tails character is at right now.
I am certain that in the third movie Tails character will grow more independent and have a similar Arc to SA2.
Third movie may introduce Amy and Rouge along with Shadow, so it’ll be interesting to see how the writers tackle all the characters. Given what we’ve gotten so far I’m confident the writers will stay true to what works, and stay clear of what doesn’t.
Sometimes people forget that tails is still a child and gets scared, but people also forget he Was a hero.
Honestly the Sonic movies are shock they're really good I mean you never expected that from a video game movie let alone actual characters and great storytelling I'm really looking forward to the third one
I am late but I am able to finally watch Sonic 2 and I loved Tails so much in this movie. Honestly all characters (Sonic, Knuckles and Tails) are portrayed very nicely in this movie, plus more action and more pacing in storytelling. I liked the second movie more than the first movie. I'm looking forward to Sonic 3 to see Shadow the Hedgehog, but also to see if Tail's arc will be explored more there. Unrelated but I liked the little short animation where I got to see Sonic and Tails enjoy hearing a robot recite a poem, lol.

I'll look into that after the release of Sonic frontiers. It will give me a chance to talk about his character in that game, as well some other appearances that I missed like Sonic Unleashed.

i love the second movie so much and i was so overjoyed to see Tails and even more over the moon about Colleen O'Shaughnessey getting to voice him, but you are so so correct about the "show don't tell" aspects about his character. I think the entire russian bar and dance off scene would have benefited from a flashback showcasing Tails' ostracization, cause while Sonic never belonged on Earth before Tom and Maddie, it was because he had to remain hidden and couldn't reveal himself to anybody, which is very different from Tails' isolation, which was purely his village rejecting him outright and relentlessly bullying him for his tails. Like the scene where the bar patrons are calling them freaks, would have loved like a single flashback to a young Tails running from a similar scene, and he can't do that now [in the bar scene] cause he's surrounded, and then he won't cause Sonic is encouraging him not to/to stand up for himself. Also occurred to me that perhaps he would have been sent to live with Longclaw because of his Tails labeling him as 'different', just as Sonic's speed did for him, but she was dead/missing by the time he was born so he was stuck in his village.

I’m wondering if Tails can also generate electricity like Sonic and Knuckles but it doesn’t show often cuz he seldom gets mad. That would definitely be something epic to put in the third movie
The 1st movie already did great on tails, the games did him so dirty im so glad the movie focused his character arc a bit more. Hes my favourite character personally. I hope the 2nd will continue down this road an show a bit more on his backstory. I also hope the 2nd wont only focus on Shadow. Hes a great character but hes so over rated. I hope they they balance it inbetween characters instead of only shadow and sonic getting the spotlight.
I agree with what you say, and also if you have a character pole and have amy on it, just ignore the actual answer and finish the characters from the classics
You know, I've never understood why people are complaining about Tails watching Sonic. I mean, in the first movie, Sonic literally watched over a town of people for years. Like, if you want to bash Tails for that, ok. But you have to bash Sonic too.
Besides, that's kinda the reason why I think their friendship really worked. Because Sonic knows what it's like to not have any friends and to watch from afar and admire someone else. So Sonic has a personal connection that makes him want to support Tails. So that's why I think it worked.

Tails in Sonic Movie 2 is so cute, adorable, and wholesome!!! The writing for him is very well done!!! I do think he was a bit sidelined in the film and wish he had a little more screentime. I do agree though that he can definitely get more screentime in Sonic 3 and that his full character arc has yet to be completed!!!
So glad that Colleen is able to reprise her role as the two-tailed fox in the movies as well!!! She really knows the character inside and out and she is so passionate and loves the role!!!

If I have any problems with the Movie, it's that there aren't any songs from the games (aside from Green Hill), because I would liked to hear some of it during some scenes like the Siberian Dance, Team Sonic vs Robotnik or Tails' arrival, but this is half fixed thanks to the RUclipsr Ryan Daly.
Also, for the Sonic Adventure 2 cutscene where Robotnik blows Sonic ups, I feel like Tails should have at least been shocked and maybe cried a little at first. Don't get me wrong, I love that scene, I just feel like they excluded Tails' reaction from Sonic supposed death.
Tails literally saved Station Square, and all by himself too, and yet in the 2010 games he’s a complete coward, this movie wrote Tails as he was originally, a scared kid that was bullied, turns into the guy that helped saved the town, I mean, his scared moments make more sense in this movie, like instead of being scared of everyone like Game Tails, he’s scared of things he’s never done before.
This movie really shows how much Tails has developed and learned.

This was a good look into tails character in the movie and I completely agree with you in what you said. Especially with how they’ve portrayed him in recent games making him take a huge back step almost as if he’s useless without sonic and needs sonic to save the day. I hope the next movie follows the trend of the last two and puts focus on tails and shadows characters and most likely will include Amy it feels weird that she hasn’t shown up yet.

Game tails is being fixed too. Frontiers tried to fix his character's biggest issues. We need to see what happens next but solid work was done to fix the core cast in Frontiers.
Imagine this, a video where you talk about Infinite, how he was brutally wasted and poorly written, and how to improve his character in the game, because if they had done it right, he could be an equal or even better villain than Neo Metal Sonic, Chaos and even Mephiles. Yeah, that would be interesting. I will put up a poll soon for some characters to analyse, and it will include Infinite. But I agree, Infinite had so much potential that was just wasted.

I won’t say this is a perfect film…
But I will say the human scenes are necessary, because they are important to Sonic’s life. If the scenes weren’t there, there would always be those wondering “what’s happening with the humans?”, even if it’s only the wedding scene.
This is an example of failing both ways. Showing the Wedding Scene gets people upset they aren’t getting more Screen time with Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. HOWEVER, if we focused on the three titular characters that much, people would wonder “what’s going on with the humans?” because of their importance to the story.
Beyond Sonic’s family, we’re introduced to GUN, which has been important to multiple Sonic Games. If we didn’t focus on the wedding scenes, we would lost a lot of context with GUN.
It’s a no win scenario.
Yeah, it's a double edged sword that can never pay off. It would either be that there is too much time with the humans, or not enough time with the humans.
I'm glad both of the movies have adequate arcs for their characters but still leave room for more development in the future movies.
This kid is gonna have a bright future with better writing and Vtubing.
