The Norwegian invasion plans were actually originally a response to a possible German invasion of Sweden. The idea was to counter attack and secure Norwegian ports to allow allied forces to deploy in Norway. Sweden even relocated hundreds of thousands of troops in 1943 and 1944 to prepare for this eventuality. So by 1945, Sweden was basically primed and ready to go in terms of invading/liberating Norway. As a Swede, I must say that invading Norway sounds more natural than liberating. Not sure why that is 😉😅
Once Germany invaded Norway Swedens odds to resist was gone. It took years to build up the forces(while the german witherd) and fortifications before Sweden dared to say no to Germany again.
Had Finland fallen extremely quickly in 1939 Sweden would have been at war with the USSR. The northern army commander had decided that if The Russians penetrated within about 100 miles of the Swedish border the Swedish army would cross the border and take up positions in Finland. The government didn't learn about this plan for some time, Swedish officers even crossed the borders to recon defensive positions. Sweden had about 100.000 troops mobilized along the finnish border during the winter war, there where lot's of problems initially because pre war training was too short and there where shortages of materiel. But these things got sorted out in time. The finns might be famous for their ski tactics but the Finns had learned these from the Swedish army after Finnish independence from Russia. Finland didn't have an army or where part of the Russian one in WW1 because they where deemed unreliable.
1941 I have Nazi Germany on one side, and Russia on the other side. What do you do as a country, well you try to get away and try to save human lives. And 1945 Allies had invaded Germany. And after that there was not much more to do for Sweden than to help people in need as we did.
Out of interest, why so many videos about Sweden? You used to do a variety of stuff, now it's mostly about topics related to Sweden. Not complaining as such, and I'm sure Swedes love it, but I kinda miss the more generalized approach you had before.
Thanks for the reaction!
