    Since I messed up the lyrics (a great way to start the new year ;~; ), here is the lyrics in full:
    Vilified
    Lyrics written by Ethan Song
    I am but a shadow that rests on a home;
    I’ve heard pleading objections, to my heart of stone.
    I once knew of love, of light, and of hope
    Then found the place where all good things go (to die)
    For every burden, there is someone to bear it.
    Behind the greater good, there’s sins we commit
    Your fragile worlds need a source of blame to ascribe
    But there are evils, that can’t be described.
    When all of this blinding lack of faith arises, we’re intertwined.
    Your life weighed against that of mankind-
    to call it a hard choice, would be a lie.
    The death of innocence is but necessity;
    If you abhor the thought, you’re welcome to your fantasy.
    If those beside you bear witness to the darkness of life,
    Then for the greater good, stand beside them; when called to die.
    Under Imperium, we’re all His children;
    Who wouldn’t gladly die for the sake of their kin?
    It takes a pure soul to cling tight to faith as they die,
    But to kill for Him… is something only the strong abide
    And that’s something no child should have be put through-
    I cross the line for your sake; so you don’t have to.
    But if that child shall ever even think to stray from the path,
    They’ll know no mercy- they’ll be purged with unhesitant wrath.
    All of the ends we prevent, yet somehow we are the ones you vilify
    If you’d seen what I’d seen, you’d be devastated; you’d be terrified
    So hope for redemption gifted here by the hands of a better man;
    Know that my blood-stained palms, will only ever care for a greater plan.
    And if that’s what it takes…
    Then no cost is too great.

    it's hearbreaking. it's amazing. It's incredible, to feel inquisitors being forced out of necessity to kill loyal subjects of the imperium, not out of choice, but because there are no other choice left. Because it's either that, or condemning even more people to the taint of chaos, or horrible death. Even worse. With chaos, who knows what can happen to your mind and soul?
    Yet, at the same time, it feels so unfair! Those inquisitors, they can witness chaos and not die? But the brave soldiers who held the line will all have to die because they fought off, and survived chaos? *They* must die? And those astartes, who fell out of grace, because of choices, sometimes similar to the inquisition, they also get excomunicated? and those ones who objected to the deaths of innocents get nearly butchered to the last brother because they dared saying their minds to an inquisitor?
    Warhammer 40000 is so unfair… but well. you translated it perfectly in your song, stringstorm.

    "But if that child shall ever even think to stray from the path, They’ll know no mercy- they’ll be purged with unhesitant wrath." is something Puritan would say
    and
    Radical-sounding: "All of the ends we prevent, yet somehow we are the ones you vilify
    "
    Puritan-sounding: "If you’d seen what I’d seen, you’d be devastated; you’d be terrified "
    Radical-sounding: "So hope for redemption gifted here by the hands of a better man;

      'to call it a hard choice would be but a lie'
      that's the point of the inquisition - they are radically devoted to the emperor, murderously so at times. many are self serving, true. but you can pretty much get the idea of what the inquisition is from this song
      'all the ends we prevent, yet somehow we are the ones you vilify' - chaos (xenos too, but less so), this line is directed to be chaos, and what they do to keep it from spreading, such as killing tens of millions just to be sure, more even (if needed) and how other people (even astartes to an extent) view the actions.
      'if you'd seen what i'd seen, you'd be devastated; you'd be terrified' - again chaos (dark eldar for xenos as well, im thinking, but not sure). chaos will send any normal person into an inescapable madness, only some of the strongest willed (or if your an ork, they dont really pay attention unless it bleeds when hit) people can see some of chaos' stuff and still stay grounded
      'so hope for redemption gifted here by the hands of a better man' - purging those tainted, or possibly tainted, by an inquisitors. sometimes it's not needed, but often it's warranted.
      'know that my blood-stained palms, will only ever care for a greater plan' - their overall attitude, they dont *get* to be sentimental, their job entails killing even children, families, sometimes infront of the parents/grandparents if it's warranted, killing the staunch, loyal defenders of the imperium, and even cutting off the wings of the emperor's angels on rare occasion. with all that on them, you can imagine why they'd only 'care for a greater plan'
      'And that’s something no child should have be put through-
      I cross the line for your sake; so you don’t have to.' - self explanatory, they cross the line (Examples are above!) so the majority doesn't have to, so they can have normal (for a warhammer citizen) life.
      'But if that child shall ever even think to stray from the path, They’ll know no mercy- they’ll be purged with unhesitant wrath.' pretty much explained already with the stuff above, but chaos worship or xeno alliances. sometimes it's misplaces (that's still probably in the millions, the imperium is BIG) but often it is chaos worshippers, or xeno sympathizers which are looking to undermine defences or destroy from inside, and if that happens to be in say, a hive city, that's putting in the range of millions, to billions, at risk.

Yes, sometimes they bite those they protect but it is always to cause the blood that has been poisoned to be let lose from our bodies. Yes, they are monsters believe me on this. If it was not for those monsters we would truly understand the meaning of fear."
    "Those who can do what must be done, no matter the cost to themselves or others concern me... Are they angels, Demons, Both? I guess the question is answered by what end of the sword you are on at any given time. Regardless they are needed, for if not for them then we would all be damned rather then just them."
    I always liked the idea of the hero that came off as a villain. I will always hold that Monsters are needed in our world even IRL, so long as someone is holding their leash. If that leash slips then you get horror, if the leash is held tight then they will be honored. That is the thing about monsters, the judgement is from the Observer and subjective.
    There is no such thing as a 'Clean' war, but here is a question. If you had the ability to ensure only 25% of a population in a nation would die in a war instead of 75% would you? Sometimes the most horrifying war is the shortest because the enemy will want an end as soon as possible to end the horror.
    This chose was made IRL in WWII, and because of it Japan still exists. The Japanese would have fought to the last man, women, and child. They would have all died honorably before surrendering and bending the knee. It took a weapon of such horror and destruction as a Nuclear Bomb to change that, and even then it took two. I will always respect the choice of using those horrifying weapons, because in the end their use allowed the enemy nation to still exist after the war.
    In the end, this song is... far too true and on point to not get a huge like from me. May those who are horrified by the idea of doing such a thing always have monsters to do what must be done, so they can keep living any kind of life which they can actually look themselves in the mirror and not throw up.
    Respect the Inquisitor for their sacrifice, not that of their life but that of their own soul and know that in the name of the Imperium their greatest regret is that they can only do it once.

      Months of shame is perfect example of vilification of Inquisition. They were doing their frigging job there. Those millions of guardsmen who they wanted to eradicate were infested by either already corrupted guardsmen, those who had seed of corruption in them, those who were future gateway for chaos and those already demon possesed.
      Due to sheer numbers of them and difficulty of detecting these cases it would be impossible even for Inquisition to properly investigate every single one of them. Especialy demon possesions can be undetectable even by very powerfull psykers. So they chose for sake of rest of Imperium to kill them all, innocent and guilty together.
      And of course Space Wolves mucked it up. They saved few millions of guardsmen (of which many were corrupted or worse) and allowed them to spread into wide imperium, where they inevitably founded myriads of chaos cults which lead to entire cities and planets burning down, with casulties in billions at least.
      This was prime example of killing 100 to save 10000. And yet they were villified for this choice.

An inquisitor must understand the basic traits of Chaos in order to fight it. In a few years, he knows more about the warp than most untutored cultists. Then the second step: the moment he breaks the rules and allows some aspect of Chaos to survive or remain so that he can study it and learn from it... The third step... the third step is the line itself. When the inquisitor becomes a radical. When he chooses to use Chaos against Chaos. When he employs the agencies of the warp. In a very weird way, the inquisition is following the emperor's last orders to a T. He may have banned religion, yet he often acted as a demigod and ordered nobody question him on it. The Inquisition ensures the subjects of the imperium are untainted by chaos, and *ensure* that they stay loyal to the Emperor. The Emperor saw no reason not to use EXTREME force in certain situations out of logic, the inquisition follows his logic to a T. The only thing that truly changed from emperor to inquisition was simply what they shot you in the head over to an extent. Lack of working for the emperor? BLAM. Falling to Chaos? BLAM. Saying Magnus was a good child? BLAM. They shoot you for the same shit but are polar opposites, and then inherently the exact same thing, for as to why. The Inquisition kills over religion to the most extreme. The Emperor kills over atheisms to the most Extreme. In the end both kill for the exact same reason. It's, almost funny, how if the Emperor returned (I pray he doesn't), that the Inquisition would, by a simple brand change, be his best buds.

    This song: Literally about why the Inquisition aren't the bad guys.
    Me: Tell that to Armageddon. Or Typhon Primaris. Or the Celestial Lions. Tell that to Malcador!

      Wasn't Malcador the one that created the Inquisition?

      @@exanom8623 Yep. As far as I've heard and read though, the modern Inquisition is far from what it was originally meant to be.

    This song pretty much perfectly describes why I can't get myself to take 40k seriously. There's no stakes if everything is fucked and doomed, the whole thing invokes the "Eight Deadly Words" - "I don't care what happens to these people." Everything is already fucked. What's the point of giving a single solitary fuck, who am I supposed to root for if there are no good people? It takes a comedic series that makes light of the pants-on-head retarded, distilled *_edge_* of the setting to get me even remotely invested in any characters originating from 40k.

      And that's okay! :D
      Sure, everything is screwed so why keep going? Who is there to root for if there's no good guys? What's at stake?
      Is simple!
      You keep going because its the right thing to do.
      You root for the right things, despite if the actions done is good or bad.
      If the world does not care for what happens to anyone, then be the one that cares for them!
      If everyone has nothing to lose, then there's no other option but to gain!
      In a galaxy filled with dread, apathy, and darkness, be the small flicker that ignites the galaxy! o 3o
      I like grimbright stuff. q 3q

      Nobledark is good people, evil world. Grimbright is evil people, good world - i.e high fantasy, but the fairies act like dark eldar.
      You sure you mean grimbright?

    As an Inquisitor I have committed every act to preserve mankind against the enemies that will seek to destroy us. I often ask myself why I continue to do this, why do I burn worlds to the ground, why do I have such paranoia against my fellow man, why do I continue to be the monster? Then I remember the worlds untouched by the Alien, the Mutant, and the Heretic, and see the Citizen of our Imperium safe with their families and friends. They do not know the horrors I have seen nor the acts of pure evil committed by our enemies, I Inquisitor Garza, fight these horrors and nightmares so that others worlds never suffered what I have suffered, and will protect them even I become a monster to the eyes of these people. I will fight so they don’t become into monster like me. The Emperor Protects, Ave Imperator.
