I made a dnd 5e version of Darkest Dungeons where I included a stress meter, to those wondering this meant they couldnt act like murder hobos while still being murder hobos at the same time. Also I gave them the option of switching between 3 characters they made (which they have died a lot in).
The result was somehow one became a canniable, one lost his hand shooting an arrow, one having too much wild magic as wizard somehow, and a bard not seducing the bosses, fun :3

Doing a similar thing without the stress stuff. I’m still pretty new (only been dming for about a year), and I like to not kill characters. Besides, I don’t have a murderhobo party. I do though, have a warforged forge domain cleric named Styx.

Having watched most of Comic's playthrough (and having been part of it in a sense before life completely distracted me...), I was definitely looking forward to this countdown. Haven't played the game yet, but hot damn is it tense to watch, and each of these characters brings something interesting to the table. And yeah, I was definitely one of those asking about a mage type because it's the first type I think of that really fits my playstyle with the other being the tank. Overall a really fun countdown, and I enjoyed hearing each of the quotes for each segment, that's a nice touch. Will have to try and pick this up when my backlog is thinner.
Glad to see you back in action, and I hope things go well in the future! And that goes for everyone. This year has been kicking our butts like this game does in numerous ways. Hoping that benevolence shines through for the rest of it.

my favorite kind of character is the bruiser: the one who can take damage and dish it back out, so there were no shortage of preferred characters for me. flagellant is starting to become a favorite for me, and i also started to like the man at arms once i got used to him. might also explain my aversion towards dance comps. i only really use move skills when the shieldbreaker is present or i have a jester set up for finale (aside from repositioning displaced frontliners)

My favorite party comp so far is Leper in the front, Crusader in the second, Highwayman in the third, and Vestal in the back, but my second favorite comp is Bounty Hunter up Front, Man At Arms in second, Houndmaster third, and Arbalest in fourth, I rarely touched the antiquarian but that's mainly cause I didnt understand her utility, might give her a shot now

    • @Underworlder5
      @Underworlder5 4 года назад +3

i would recommend bringing the antiquarian in easier runs. the extra money you get is invaluable, and her dodge buff can be very useful. she can also force an ally to guard her, so she synergizes well with riposte or the flagellant. for some reason the game never explains the biggest reason you would put her on your team. it just mentions her self preservation

    • @yobachidu6452
      @yobachidu6452 3 года назад +1

I like to play a burst team most of the time. 2 highwayman in front. A grave robber in 3rd and a vestal in last.
The idea is quite easy. Spam Point blank shot and Riposte with the highwaymans. And send the grave robber to the front with lunch and then activate stealth for extra demage and repeat.
Vestal can stun or heal. Meanwhile the highwayman can get enemies out of stealth while getting a nice buff. The graverobber is mostly the trigger to let the highwayman get the riposte and get to the front line once again for more point blank shots

To anyone who wants to go through Comic Foil's LP, a lot of us had a great time role playing and writing journal entries in the comments section. We had a blast and hope you enjoy the lore we created for the characters around us.
    -
My favorite class has to be a tie between Flagellant and Houndmaster. Beastmaster is my favorite class in games, so my love for commanding a hound that can heal, destress and bleed the enemies dry is great. Flagellant is just great. I was watching another streamer do a DD playthough with character adoption and my Flagellant Riev survived the Darkest Dungeon itself with no trinkets (we forgot to equip him after pressing the de-equip all button) and managed to get a 52 crit heal to save his ally. Best moment ever.
    -
In the same playthrough, the streamer loves big numbers, so his Leper became GOD. It 3 shot the Shrieker (a boss with insane dodge on a character with shit accuracy and fear of beasts) and became a legendary figure in out playthough. This solidifies Scorpion's idea that no one is inherently bad, they just need to match your playstyle. His teamcomp consisted of Leper, Jester, Vestal and Antiqarian of all things. They uber buffed the Leper, while debuffing and ccing opponents. Jester and Antiquarian both helped reposition the Leper if it ever got knocked back. I recommended Shieldbreaker as it's gimmick is dancing, but he wanted the sweet dough from the Antiquarian's loot.
    -
My favorite teamcomp is Vestal, Graverobber, Hellion, Shieldbreaker as a bosskilling dancer team, that almost gives zero facks about positioning.

Wow. I think I need to leave a big comment. Firstly, I love how you have the ancestor's recruitment lines as a part of the transition. Made it fun to guess who's next. Second, the intro was amazing. Sent chills though me. Third, that thing you did with the Bounty Hunter cracked me up!! Should have seen that first bit coming. Fourth, I don't believe the Shield Breaker cut her arm off to stop the venom. I think it was because she was caught up in the wreckage and had to get free before a snake attacked. Finally, 2 of my favorites are the Crusader, and the Highway Man. Because with only them, the final boss was nothing.
Seriously, I love this list, it was well constructed, and I hope to see more Darkest Dungeon content from you in the future. Especially when the sequel comes out.

19:46 You can read the segment here, it mentions Shieldbreaker feeling the venom in her veins and being forced to off her arm.

    • @SeriousGranade
      @SeriousGranade 2 года назад

Both her character comic and Shieldbreaker's journal pages (you get one per nightmare) explain that bit fairly well - the Shieldbreaker attacked her captives during their stagecoach journey through the desert region, leading to it falling off a cliff and breaking down. She survived, but her arm got trapped in the rubble and eventually, a viper came out and bit her in that arm. That's when she ultimately decided to cut it off - it's either she loses it (painfully might I add, since the knife she used to do it was dull) and survives, or she stays trapped and the viper venom slowly kills her.

@@medellaclockworks2201 Well, Green Scorpion did mention himself that he doesn't know everything about the game and a lot of his footage (and probably knowledge as well, might be wrong) came from Comic Foil's playthrough, who himself haven't experimented much, or used the full potential of the characters he's got and mostly stuck to whatever skills they came with when he recruited them.

In my last mission I brought in vestal, Shieldbreaker, Bounty hunter and Leper (I do like leper. Bad accuracy or not, He hits really, REALLY hard.) Bounty hunter and vestal died. Two enemies remained, Leper and shieldbreaker were a sneeze away from dying. But, Shieldbreaker was in the front lines thanks to an inptomptu switchup the enemies caused. I used impale to hit both, took one down. Since Leper was in the front, I used chop and took out the other. But Good lord, my hands have never gotten so sweaty from a game before. The amount of tense moments are really high, and I love it.

Alright, first of all, great video and a nice summary of your opinions on all the characters. I started playing this game not too long ago and I must say, it's a real nice piece of work. I'm on week 78 so far, got a decent roster going all the way to Champion, though I have yet to start the Darkest Dungeon missions. Lost some good ones too, but I've got a few classes I've taken a pretty big liking to from my experience assembling my teams. Some I've found surprisingly useful in roles one might not expect from them, while others who are universally good, surprisingly, I haven't used all that much. All in all, here's my experience with those characters.
    17. I will admit, at base, Leper has a hard time hitting the broadside of a manor, but in the lategame, Leper is amazing. He can function independently if need be, with the best self-heal in the game by far, he deals enough damage to easily solo the front ranks and his Intimidate skill is great for neutering targets that deal a ton of damage, even the distant ones. Prophet and the Swine were doing easily manageable damage after 2 rounds of Intimidate. My level 6 Leper has 2 crit quirks locked in. Add to that his camping skill reflection and a focus ring and I found that he crits about as often as a Highwayman.
    16. Surprisingly, haven't used him that much. The Jester is amazing, it's just that I've been trying to experiment with different team loadouts to see what sticks, so my Jester took a while to level up to 6. Still, he's got a good offensive buff, great single-target stress relief, 2 bleeding attacks and the Finale. You practically don't need to worry about stress when you have this guy.
    15. Two words: Devil's Cauldron. Occultist is surprisingly amazing in the 2nd rank, unlike the Vestal who's rather mediocre in that spot. He can still heal from there, but he's still got his pull, both curses and a heal, and he gets a high crit stab that deals respectable damage (albeit somewhat inaccurate) and a powerful stun that reliably controls big enemies. I personally like him a decent amount.
    14. Unfortunately I quickly found that Crusader isn't that great of a frontliner, but you can build him as a surprisingly good backline instead - keeping your party going with decent heals and stress heals, Holy Lance to attack high priority targets, then once he's up front I go for the stuns, or throw in some more heals for good measure. Too bad he's better support than fighter...
    13. Arbalest won me a looot of runs. I've come to respect her despite her shortcomings, and she helped me decimate some really nasty enemies, like Hateful Viragos in the Weald, or Swine Skivers in the Warrens. Also, Suppressing Fire is really nice - making the backline less likely to hit AND crit you is always solid.
12: Flagellant fits a surprising amount of builds. I've used him for other things than just bleed out enemies and he sure can do a lot - Champion Flagellant has some really nice heals - an over-time Reclaim and a big stress heal that gives him a bit of stress. He's actually saved my Shieldbreaker from going crazy in one of her nightmares.
11: Really good healer and support, but not much else. I still use Vestal on tougher missions, I just wish she could do a bit more.
10: Haven't actually used Bounty Hunter that often for damage, but he's got some really good disruption options to him and his primary mark speeds him up, so he's pretty good for setup too. Unfortunately his primary attacks only came in big a few times for me...
9: Absolutely amazing. I've used Shieldbreaker to fight my fair share of bosses, from Prophet to Hag, to the Cannon, and she's got a few strong moves besides pierce I've used a lot - Impale cleaves all enemies and can blight on higher levels, and Captivate deals big physical and blight damage AND benefits from marks. Plus she's got a move that acts as a double Aegis Scale, so she can protect herself if need be.
8: An escort mission she might be, but she can pull her weight if need be. I've used her mainly as blight support with a small heal in my parties, but I've also been liking Gunpowder, since it lowers accuracy and de-stealths enemies. And she sure has an eye for finding those antiques.
7: I agree, she's pretty nice. Really good for backline control and her blights suffocate even the most well protected beasts, plus Blasphemous Vial exists :) She's a really good partner for Abomination and the Flagellant, since she can heal bleeds he causes to himself with his Reclaim.
6: You said we'll fall in love after landing a Collect Bounty crit on a marked human - I found that Houndmaster often outperforms Bounty Hunter, especially on Champion. A really good mark, nice utility with stuns and group stress healing, though his guard has a downside of lasting only 1 turn before having to be reapplied again. But, I can't imagine a journey to the Warrens without him.
5: Godlike. Grave Robber's damage output on Lunge is insane - I had her land crits up to 70 damage, enough to one-shot some big enemies, and she's got reliable backline and frontline damage, so no matter the area, she'll kick ass. Get her a Raider's Talisman as soon as you can - trust me, it's worth it ;)
4: I agree. Hellion is a really good damage dealer, with an amazing front rank stun. In fact, she's why I don't use Crusader as a primary damage dealer, plus she's got some good camping self-buffs.
3: Buffs, Guards and Ripostes are the trademark of this soldier. Man-at-arms, alongside the Hellion, Jester and Vestal saved my behind from Brigand Vvulf, and he kept my weaker links safe in fights against other big damage enemies and bosses. Personally I prefer more offensive teams, but I'll bring him along if I ever need to play safe.
2: Highwayman is a solid pick for many teams. Whether from the back, or up front, he kept dishing out damage for me and revealing stealthed enemies with his Tracking Shot. Any weaker link in enemy groups gets easily destroyed and some enemies seem to like the idea to suicide by riposted Highwayman.
1: I will admit, I haven't used him very much, but Abomination is quite strong, even in his human form. I haven't used his beast form too often, but when I did, things would die. He's a beast both in and out of beast form, especially with the right trinkets, and the fact that an eldritch monster helps you on your quest? It's quite endearing and frightening at the same time. I just wish I could fit him into more teams.

Just to say, I finally got up the guts to get this game after watching this video. So glad I did; absoloutly loving it so far. I've only dipped my toes - beat the first few bosses and got my first hero to Resolve of 6 - but Im excited to keep delving deep.

Green, you’ve created a list of so many masters of weapons, have you ever thought of looking into the masters who created the weapons. Look into the video game blacksmiths, the masters of forging the weapons the heroes (or villains) used to become legends.

17 - Antiquarian; the bank makes her nearly redundant
16 - Flagellant; just doesn't fit my playstyle
15 - Leper; powerful, tough but misses too much
14 - Arbelest/ Musketeer; useful for a handful of roles but no standout
13 - Crusader; similar to the Arbalest but more of a frontliner
12 - Jester; best stress healer but needs better attacking options
11 - Plague Doctor; best at DoT but needs more durability
10 - Grave Robber; very fun to play but a way too frail
9 - Bounty Hunter; excellent damage output, but only with the right setup
8 - Abomination; the whole concept of risk-and-reward done right
7 - Hellion; a good case of where the best defense is a great offence
6 - Occultist; surprisingly good for direct damage, needs better healing capability
5 - Shield Breaker; good range of attacking effects but a tad tricky to use
4 - Vestal; best overall healer while still having good attack options
3 - Man-at-arms; best frontliner who can still function well if pushed back
2 - Highwayman; a versatile, excellent damage dealer that works in any team
1 - Hound Master; best all-rounder in the game, the biscuits are quite the wildcard

Flagellant, Arbalest/musketeer, Houndmaster, and Grave Robber were always my main party when i could help it, with Plague doctor, Abomination *who i almost always keep in his non monster form*, and Vestal close behind as often used replacements. The flagellant self healing and the combined healing from Houndmaster and Arbalest were often enough the few times i couldn't wipe an enemy group out. Antiquarian, Hellion, Man at Arms, and Jester were almost never used, but i keep one of every single class and find use for all of them.

    - Create a good team

    - replay the same level
