same, this is the third video ive watched. the first guy talked about random stuff as he just applied a premade cover... the second guy had this loud ass rock music. i appreciate this guy not doing either of those, and getting to the point!
Fantastic skills from a true craftsman. I need to look into reupholstering an exam table. The "soft touch" vinyl is flaking after all the years of use.
Great video, I was mesmerized by your great work! I have a question, is there a way to buy custom made leather thats ready to be put on a bench... if I give the dimensions and everything, is there a company that can make it for you and ship it or something? Because I don’t have the equipment to make my own
Well thank you sir! Gave me exactly the information I needed. My sister's cat did a number on old bench. Thank you for the upload. Have a wonderful day.
I have done seated calf machine where knees make contact and a chest piece on seated row machine....the round container is a great idea....and dividing the corner/stapling then doing each side is a great tip because that is where I had the most trouble...not sure if you have a FOAM recommendation if foam is worn?
I don't know the model number, now obsolete for parts. It uses the 3300 series staples, now somewhat hard to come by. I purchased the gun in the late 70's, around 45 years ago. Obviously has been a very good gun.
Naugahyde is made in the USA. They have a number of vinyls that work well. Burkshire (sp?) is a good choice. The pattern number starts with BRK- _ I don't recall what I used in the video but it wasn't what I typically use.
My distributors sell only to people in the trade. Look online, or for an area upholstery shop and they should be able to provide you with materials. Staplers can be a problem for the DIY person as electric and manual staplers don't usually have enough drive power.
Got vinyl and 1/2” foam at a fabric store. A friend has a great stapler, tools and woodworking experience. Took us several hours, but it’s not bad for our first attempt. Lesson: take before pictures to make sure you can put it back together as before. We took measurements, but a picture is invaluable. Thx!
My distributor only sells to people in the trade with tax-exempt status. Check with an area upholstery shop. I use HR-70 in these applications. Re-bond foam is more firm but tends to have a rough surface.
I demonstrated how to do it in my motorcycle seat videos but you need somebody with a printer that cuts stencils. My son does this for me. Thanks for tuning in.
Do you give an allowance for the stretch of the vinyl. In other words do you make the top piece slightly small since the vinyl stretches when you staple it. Thank you.
Dear Buckminster Upholstery, Could you please tell me what that black plastic/PVC(?) backing sheet material is called? I'd to buy some to hide the staples and plywood on one of my benches, but I don't even know what to call it! Thank you!
I don't know what the plastic sheet is called. Some years back a fellow upholsterer said it's used in custom car interiors and can be heated and bent. I'm not personally familiar with this. You can cover the bottom of your bench with black vinyl. Thanks for tuning in.
Im planning on creating a home made gym bench and want to use some left over vinyl kitchen flooring. That seems thicker than this. Will it easily staple down with a heavy duty staple gun? If all else fails I will use an old air mattress. The side that's vinyly.
Why not look for an area upholstery shop and buy suitable vinyl? Hobby Lobby may have some. Walmart? I can't answer to your staple gun as it depends on the length of staple and the type of wood you're stapling into. 1/4" is plenty long, except maybe for the folded corners.
Because there will be staples along the way that need to be removed in adjusting the cover I use 1/4" as they are easy to pull. When I run into thicker folded layers I step up to at least 3/8", or maybe 1/2". Thanks in return.
The plastic, or any cover on the bottom side is for sanitary reasons. The plastic leaves edges smoother with a more cleanable surface than plywood. Less hiding spaces for spiders and other insects. What kind of plastic? It was on the seat so I reused it.
I can't answer to other upholstery shops rate of charge. This took 1 1/2 hours. Cost of materials varies a great deal, especially if you need new foam.
on average, what would be a reasonable price to charge for a job like this? curious as i am just getting started and will be doing some workout equipment soon!
I'm unable to tell you what is a reasonable rate of charge. You have to decide that based on your location and personal status. What you saw in this video reflects approximately two hours labor plus the price for 3/4 yard of vinyl. No foam replacement involved.
Hey, I am publishing videos on how to build flat and incline benches, would like to link to this video for the great Upholstery detailed instructions. I referenced them myself!! Thank you, Great Job!
Less than a minute into this video and I sense all kinds of talent, thank you! I will have better fitness equipment one day because of you

So glad I came across this channel very educational and professional
Great work! Thanks for the informative and entertaining video!
Great video thank you
Great video. Both educational and entertaining. Thank you for making and sharing it.
To my upholsterer Merry Christmas !!!
beautiful! thank you for the video!
Please, what the size of the staples should I use for gym upholstery (vinyl leather + 18mm plywood)?
For the most part, 1/4" is sufficient. Corners may require 3/8".
@@Buckminsterupholstery
Thank you very much, but if the the thikness of the vinyl is 2mm, will 6mm (1/4") staples be enough?
Another excellent video! Merry Christmas and have a great New Year! Looking forward to more videos next year! Also,I like the poinsettia! 😀😀✝️🇺🇸✡️🇮🇱
Awesome camera coverage! So nice to have all those close up shots showing so much detail. Peace, Sal

What vinyl is best to use on gym equipment?
I prefer Naugahyde, Burkshire pattern. Made in America
What model duo staple gun is that? Thanks in advance

I too have a flat bench that needs reupholstery how much money should I expect to pay ...
I can't guide you on pricing. It may vary a great deal from one shop to another in differing geographic locations.
What if it’s been ripped and where to buy the materials- vinyl, staples and maybe padding since ripped?
Thx

What fabric and where can I buy it/
I prefer Naugahyde's Burkshire line. Made In America. Any area upholstery shop can likely fix you up.
I need to replace the cushion on my gym bench. I want to use a tighter cushion. Where can I purchase new cushion material

Hello great video! Was just wondering how would I go about putting my own logo on the bench once the cover it fitted like you've just done?
I demonstrated how to do it in my motorcycle seat videos but you need somebody with a printer that cuts stencils. My son does this for me. Thanks for tuning in.
Nicely done. What size stitches did you use for the seam and the top stitch?
Off hand I can't say how many per inch. My stitch size reads 1-5. ... 3 1/2 seam and 5 top.
Do you give an allowance for the stretch of the vinyl. In other words do you make the top piece slightly small since the vinyl stretches when you staple it. Thank you.
Thank you, do you know a good place to buy the plastic material for the backing?
Enjoyed the video, very informative and educational, I appreciate your expertise!👍👏🙌💪🔥🔥🔥🤑🤑🤑🤑
Great Job. What brand of vinyl did you use?
In this case, I don't recall. Probably Morbern automotive vinyl. In most equipment like this I use Naugahyde Burkshire. (made in the USA).

Great video. What wood would you suggest for restoring a broken board?
Good quality cabinet grade 3/4" plywood. Round over the edges to reduce cutting and wear against the foam and vinyl.
@@Buckminsterupholstery thank you I will look for just that.!

Just watched the whole thing. I'm not trying to upholster anything though. Still interesting.
What kind of plastic is that wrapped over the foam?
The plastic is sold in the trade as "silk film". A light-weight disposable painter's drop-cloth will work.
