    4:05 common misconception. 289 cars were more successful race cars than 427. 289 also powered the Daytona Coupe that won the World Sportscar Championship. 427 Cobra more iconic? Certainly.

      @j.osborne4914 Год назад

      @destruxandexploze2552 yes I realise this mate. But in my view most people would associate the 427 with the side pipes in general as most cobras are built more as s/c than roadster. From what I've heard a lot of original 427 roadsters were largely modified to be s/c. 427s did not have down draft Weber's but people still put them on. I have a 427 cobra which I built so I have done a bit of homework, though I don't claim to be an authority on the subject

    • @tabcobra

      Also, most 427s actually had 428s in them. Shelby had a hard time getting the 427s from Ford.

    I’m planning on building one of these soon. From factory 5. I’m going to end up buying fords “Godzilla” crate motor. 2020 7.2L V8 making 440hp stock. It’s actually very well built for bolt ons with stock internals. Throw a hugger throttle body on from a gt350 and you can push north of 550hp on stock internals. It would eliminate all the problems of an “old motor” and be more reliable

    • @advicemaster1365
      @advicemaster1365 Год назад +1

      I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Absolutely a must is the latest Ford cam for way more power and awesome sound. Also, a better throttle body and heads with a good tune should really make this motor a beast without tearing the motor apart with new valves, rods etc.. If still not enough power... can always throw a super charger on at some point. Be curious to know if you started your build yet???

    You can build a cobra to original spec or you can build some variation of A cobra that ends up being more like a Miata. The closer a car is to spec, the more likely you are to appreciate it. There are manufacturers out there of all types who can build you anything from a basic slabside kit to a full blown monster 427. It’s the details that will ensure your enjoyment, for years to come. I sure can’t imagine selling mine.

    All of the engine issues you've mentioned are due to inferior part choice/lack of maintenance. If it's built correctly that rollbar is functional btw and it only covers the driver side because responsible drivers/racers don't drive beyond their limits with a passenger. The tell tail difference between yours and other makes, such as factory five, back draft, superformance, is the small dog leg at the front of the doors. I have a 408 cubic inch stroker with 525 dyno'ed HP and 532 torque. My car runs at 175 to 180 degrees at all times, even when it is 90 degrees out. First off it’s not a “classic car” it’s a replica, it’s built like a classic car but with modern technology. That 351w should have been rebuilt instead of just hucked in there.
    If you built the thing instead of just buying it and not putting the effort into it, maybe you’d know the car all the way around and would be able to easily fix or diagnose it, but you just bought it from another guy that took hundreds of hours to build it.
    You didn’t do built not bought, you got bought from someone else who built it. Lame.

      @@tkrobertson12 Yes I’m aware that the Cobra was made using the body of an AC Ace however the wide body version (like in this video) is not how the AC Ace would come from factory. That body was made special for the Cobra.

    The 427 engine is only one engine in the FE (Ford/Edsel) engine family...they were ...332, 352, 360, 361,390, 406,410, 427 and 428. Any of the smaller engines can be bored and stroked to 440+ cubic inches and easily make over 500 reliable HP.... the 406/428 will go to 460+ cubic inches.
    There are still plenty of 360 and 390 truck engines available for stroking...add after market aluminum heads and you're in business.
    They look right and only a few people will be able to tell the difference.
    And a FE engine with aluminum heads and intake weighs only a few pounds more than an all iron small block Chevy.
    And a 445 stroker will out perform the original 427.....and at a lower RPM.
    edit; I think there are only two manufacturers making new 427 blocks nowadays, BBM and Shelby. I payed $3,800 a couple yrs ago for my BBM , and last time I looked , the Shelby was going for over $7,000.
    Good luck finding a good original 427 block and a complete 427 engine is going to cost a lot of wampum .
    A complete 360 or 390 will cost a tiny fraction of either of those , and are a good starting point for a 445 stroker.
    Good luck.

    The statement you made about water pump leaking and you might have to get a gasket, well the gasket comes with a new water pump. The statement you made about carburetor is leaking, that's because those carburetors are most likely very old so the gaskets are leaking take them off and rebuild the carbs. With a car that light and basically is stock engine you should be getting a lot more than 8 mi to a gallon. When you said that you can't beat on the old engines cuz they won't take it like the new ones do. 🤦🤦 Those old engines are extremely tough and durable. You can put your foot in it and keep it there all day and it will run like a top. All this new electronic crap we'll have some ignorant little sensor go out in it and screw up your entire day and cost you hundreds not thousands of dollars because it takes forever to take the garbage off the engine to get to the problem. If you're not happy with your car I'll give you $50 for it and I'll come and pick it up.😅

    Buenas tardes. Escribo por la gran admiración y aprecio que siempre he tenido por La Argentina. El 2 de Agosto, un banco que todos conocen hizo el "movimiento" de los US $2500 millones, forzando el cambio a 1.395. Muy sincronizados, los medios parcializados decian: "la semana que viene el dolar se va a 2 mil mangos" (Cúneo, C5N, Crónica, etc.) Hoy, con el tipo de cambio a 1315, el banco en mención ha perdido 200 mil millones de pesos. Escribí esto a propósito de que estaba viendo un documental sobre los mandriles e imaginé cómo debe andar el clima en el directorio de ese banco.

Coolest looking car I have ever owned but the worst car for reliability. I owned it for 3 years and it seemed like it broke down every two months. It got to the point every time I drove it I was looking for an escape route in case i5 died. Just 8 weeks ago the back of the alternator fell off. All three bolts came out. I’ve never seen that before. I bought it with 130 miles on it and it took forever to get all the bugs out of it. On the flip side my ‘66 GT350 tribute restomod went 6 years and not one breakdown. Most reliable classic car I ever owned.

Just fixing one little thing and not going all out will make thing even worse. Like your cooling, you need to redo everything and hunt the problem down, not just fix the obvious. Well from what I've noticed, he doesn't know how to build a car to begin with....o that's why he bought someone else car already done

    Your first issue is just poor build quality, the second problem is your youthfull attitude, a 427 is overkill for a car the same size as a Miata. Then there is the issue of you being a softy when it comes to driving car. So the real issue is not the car but your issue with life in the fast lane, the car is build as a death trap. Why not say 5 "why I dont like like my dissension to buy a blood chilling car. It's not a car it's a HOTROD build by induviduals

    If you’re over 5’5” tall, that car is uncomfortable to ride/drive in

      I'm 6'6" and have owned a 427 Cobra since I purchased It in 1968. I used it as my daily driver during my first 4 years owning it. This included taking it on our honeymoon in 1970 and several 12 hour rallies. So although it's tight I don't find it uncomfortable except that it gets so hot. This wasn't a problem when we were in our 20s but it is a problem in our 70s. On our last trip in the car we drove down the California coast and it was OK but on the way back we took I-5. It was 95 degrees and by the time we got home my wife was in bad shape because of the heat. She told me no more trips in the Cobra.

    To be fair, it's not a Shelby or AC Cobra. Kit cars don't handle well. The AC/Shelby Cobra 427 was called a widow maker not a death machine bruh 😉

      @@NateRider Get a 408 strocker with fuel injection, more power than that car can put to the ground. Heat issues, you have a restriction somewhere, air or coolant, specially with that wide open mouth. Mine won't go past 195. Take that battery and move it to the passenger side in the trunk! Get rid of those hideous looking vents on the dash, they are as ugly as the car they came out of. Spec out some new wheels in 18" since MT is cutting back on those 15" tires, unless you're going with AVON tires at a lil more than $2000 for all 4 corners. "specially a rear wheel that will hold a 295 under that hump".
