I’m taking a voluntary layoff at my union job to start my business that I’ve been wanting to start for the last ten years. Things keep falling into place out of nowhere and I’m not going to let this opportunity pass me by
*UPDATE* 3 months later and business has been incredible. Lots of Word of mouth customers and I have almost doubled my salary from my old union job. But more than money, the freedom and love for what I do is intoxicating. God is good!

I had my therapist ask me when I was 19yrs old, “What do you want to be when you get older?” I said, “I want to be wealthy, I want to be a computer scientist, and I want to be a father.” He then asked me as soon as I stopped my last sentence, “How will you do that if you are dead?”
This statement singlehandedly along with my support system and my dog was the turning point in my battle with self hatred and depression.

Working on yourself is such a true statement. I put so many years in the job, got the licenses, got the knowledge, but just grinding for decades. I made the decision to change something and it’s been difficult and frustrating at times but things are also falling into place. It’s so easy to just get into the rut of going to the job and forget what you actually wanted out of your life.

I have been slacking on listening to this everyday. I can tell that my disciplines are slipping. I am still moving forwards but more towards a stagnant standpoint. I would like to say my disciplines have stayed the same, but the lack has created a downward spiral. Thankfully and for a reference, Rome was not built in a day. It also did not take a day to fall. At least I maintained some basic disciplines before the slippage overturned into full negativity and due to my thoughts always eating at me "you should be doing this". That simple thought has brought me to here, in order to revitalize myself and continue on the path of my choosing versus stagnation.
