Chris from Letsdig18 has been running a TLV12 for his uncle for years. When he went to buy one for his own business, he bought the exact same machine cause it works great and he’s used to it.
Here in East Texas Kubota Dealership’s are crap as well.. we are a small outfit mulching with a TL8 high flow. Very happy with machine and dealer support. Our mulching is a side business that caters to our machine shop clients, so a smaller unit that can go through soft soil fit us best. Keep up the good work brother.
I bought used at first and I think it worked out great. Got to learn a lot and beat up on a machine that wasn't $60k+ (got a 2012 bobcat with 2400 hrs) and now that I know a lot more and make enough that I can easily afford it, I just got a new ctl and couldn't be happier.
I agree 100% with what you've said in this video. Especially the part about Commifornia. Spent my whole life here, and lately it's gotten worse every year.
Depends on what you are doing. For snow removal I bought a huge skid steer and it sucked down gas like a pig. I switched to an ATV with a plow and the ATV was 10x faster and sipped the gas. Figure out what you are going to do, then choose the best machine for the job. For lifting round bales of hay you need a big machine. Newer or older, I can tell you that a lot of older skid steers don't have the proper safety equipment and can be down right dangerous. And get one where you don't get trapped in the cab, my hay guy had a brand new one and it malfunctioned with the bucket half way up and he was stuck in the cab and out of cell phone range LOL.
I love the takeuchi, I have the tl10v2, tb260, and tb240, they have all been outstanding workhorses. The TB260 has 30gpm high flow on the 2nd aux on the stick which runs my flail really well. The TL10 has 14 hydraulic hp less than the TL12 but it still runs my prinoth m450s mulcher pretty decent.
Great video. You nailed it. I’ve been in the dirt world for 32 years ,and I have begged people to not buy junk. Nobody, who’s out to make money can afford down time.
Cheap or expensive? I say, 1. purchase whatever does the job. 2. the piece of equipment that you can get locally supported. 3. if you have commonality with existing equipment, the more the better. Most small companies can't afford to have a dealer work on all the equipment they own. Owner maintained has it's pluses and negatives, but having the skill to maintain the equipment yourself pays dividends.
A grapple/SOLID BUCKET combo is also a fantastic attachment. I can do dirt work/grading with the grapple flipped up and grab stuff whenever I need to also. Construction Attachments makes it and its been critical to my jobs!
2011, I’m in the market for one of these and liked the solid bucket with a split grapple. I’ll be using it for bundles of limbs and staging the for mulching or chipping and was concerned about dirt and rocks. The grapple rake sifted out.
@@rockingkvideos3160 Yeah it has so much more capability with a solid bucket IMO. I can pick up brush/logs even though the bucket has regular sides on it. If you do want to sift through material you can clamp down on the load with the grapples and give it a shake
We are definitely like minded on operations and Kommiefornia. I'm an operator in the biz and I love it. What you said about takeuchi track and mini ex combo is exactly 100% spot on for starting up. Truly a winning combination. I had the privilege to see first hand how true this is.
All of my machines use pin on, no quick attich. The newest machine i have is a 75 forklift, my next newest is a 64 ford backhoe.... just a little outdated.
Sam, because of your channel and Jim down at Global I have put my money don on a brand new TL12R2. My son and I are starting a new business and I can’t thank you enough for all you have shared.
Back in 2018 I (accidentally) bought a new Ram 3500 SRW w/G56. Since then I got a 14k gooseneck, upgraded clutch, 30 acres of rough land, a Gehl RT210 w/460 hours, and a Blue Diamond low flow 60” open front brush cutter. Needless to say, my Hellcats are gone. However I love the diesel land life! 😃
We own 2 Takeuchi machines, a tl6 and excavator the 260 model. Great Machines. We got them new and we love them. If you get them used and they have over 1000 hours get ready to rebuild the thing, csuse it will need new tracks and other things soon
Always been a Bobcat guy. The early S series skid steers, and the 3 series excavators are just straight up earners. Clocked 3500+ hours on multiple S250s, S300 and an 335 excavator with only a couple blown hoses, a starter and alternator. All bought with 500 ish hours and only depreciated 10k-15k over 2500 hours
You got me thinking Tak now. Reading about a lot of issues with the John Deere 333G and over heating issues. I have no dealers close to me here in Maine and 2 hrs being the closest one. Same with the Tak. So, any down time requires me to drive 2 hrs away just to have it fixed. So down time means money lost.
Thanks for taking the time to put up the videos done very well. I had a TBO 45 excavator excellent machine except for I had to pull the counterweight to change the battery maybe you don't but I did I couldn't get it out any other way but that's what I started out on about 2000. I later moved to California and was a senior project manager for developer would have loved to have you on my jobs after working in Tahoe and Kirkwood can't imagine the bureaucracy you go through up there my hats off to you keep working hard keep putting up videos you're helping a lot of folks out. My hat's off to you. I moved back to Ohio bought a cheap 763 With too many hours thinking I know how to work on these and that's all I did. Bought a brush hog a grapple auger blade 3point etc the only thing that works still are the attachments. Great videos keep them up!!!!!!
Are you talking to me😂 I’m getting close to pulling the trigger so your timing couldn’t be better😃. I spoke with Jim last week, he is putting some numbers together for a TL12R2, W/FAE head, grapple, rotating grapple for the 080. Thank you for all your help and useful information Sam👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
I am as well here in Maine. I have a 33g being priced out now and should have pricing in a couple days. But after watching dozens of videos and issues with the JD, I am serious considering the Tak now.
Great vid Sam. I've been wanting to get one for quite a while now. Just recently traded my old cat mini excavator on a new takeuchi tb240. Do a few side jobs with it and rent it to a few buddies. Slowly been getting more work with it and thinkin of gettin a used skid steer and see how much more work I can wrangle up with that. Kickin myself for passing up on a couple really nice low hour pre emissions bobcats I looked at last year
Over here in Hamilton, Ontario (Canada) is the other way around, Kubota has a great dealer network and local dealers, not so with Takeuchi, and i love my takeuchi's, best lever feedback on pilot control in the business
I just bought a brand new slv95-2 and a loftness g4., trying to start another business. I still need to buy a better trailer and a better truck and some attachments.
I remember when you went to Global to try the Tak and some other brand. One of the big features you liked at that time was the overhead lift of the front door as well as the full view provided to see what was going on up front. I believe you said at the time the side view was less blocked on the Tak.
Bro.. I work for a case dealer and we also have the Takeuchi line and hands down the takeuchi is a bad ass machine. We very rarely have any in the shop for repair and if we do it was customer neglect. The minis are the same way.
Bought a TL12R2 after watching your videos! Absolutely love it but have one pet peeve about it. It always turns on self leveling when it starts up. Does it do that for you? Can you turn it off?
We have 40 something 12 tacos and just started buying 95 Kubotas, I think we have 3 now. I like the Kubotas better. I think they put alot more thought into designing their machines
Andrew camarata praises takehuchi too. Ive watched him have to repair bobcats like crazy, never seen him have to fix his takehuchi or his yanmars. Minus some really small non mechnanical repairs. And his stuff all has 8k hrs on them.
Nice Video. Ive rented these from United for a while but would never buy a Tak for off road use. This ground looks easy but if your operating these solid base suspension skids (tak, bob, kub) in rocky clay soil (like crush n run with red clay instead of sand) like we have here in North, GA it will bang you around so hard you'd wonder how the unit stays attached to the suspension. In the summer the red clay bakes into a solid rock behind the track guard and sprocket to where its never fully clean unless you have tons of free time. In the winter when its wet and humid midday kicks back behind then re freezes back into a clay solid at night its never clean. The sprockets and rollers get very hot compared to the Cat 249 I just rented. Just got a quote to finance a 259 D with 5 year warranty at around 6% more cost than new TL8. Cat's flow through suspension ride quality is on a whole different level than Tak or kubota and has the foot decelerator pedal which really helps on big slopes.
the TAk is the best and cost the most$ i got a t190 and love it, my dealer sucks and is the only one in my area. thay dont stock parts, so i have to wait when i need something. it had 653 hrs and cost me 35k cash
In my opinion befor watching the video. Buy mid tier and higher good guys who will take care of your equipment. Best way to save and make money. So you can pay your guys beter and keep your guys longer.
I've got a Cat 299. I love it. But one huge advantage to yours is the way the door opens. Yours goes up and over your head. Mine goes out towards the tool. If the tool isn't all the way down, I can't open my door.
Those sliding doors arnt that great either tho, rented one a while back and my dad almost got stuck in it. Mabe it was bent or somthing being a rental but it was a bear to open, annoying having to struggle with it all day. All we kept saying was wouldn’t it be nice to just swing it open. I get ur point to tho.
We purchased a new tak TL-6 last year to replace a 2008 case 420 with over 10k hours on it. These are the things that have been issues. Hydraulic quick connects problematic from day 1. Machine came out to work in 25-30 degree weather from a dry shop. Ears had to be manually broke over with no hours on the machine to attatch breaker. Never had any issues on the old CASE. 50/60 hours in, gauge cluster fell out of the machine. all the screws had worked their way out. Rattled the upper ( dash) off the machine. No big deal. Back up cam quit working. Was fixed at tak dealer. Last week rear idler assembly was replaced at dealer. Leaking / 250 hours. Summer time. Ac barely keeps up on high in mid 80s. Paint on the machine comes off with any contact to virtually anything. 250 hour machine at this point and looks / feels old. Operates well and pushes fine. But overall these machines are cheap in my opinion. The build quality isn’t there. Same time I bought mine , a friend purchased a brand new tl-8. The case 310b will out lift it, and out push it. Not trying to sound like a case fanboy. Just our experience. Overall I cannot imagine this machine going anywhere near the distance my old 420 went. They operate well , but overall they are cheap
if you have work for it everyweek then for sure buy new.. if youre starting out and your local market i pretty saturated with operators/contractors then youre really better off buying something with cash.. if you buy a 6figure machine and then only get one job a year with it youre gonna be in a shitty situation, and really if youre starting out you dont know how much work youre gonna find until you have the equipment and are getting into the jobs, the way they hold value you can pickup a 5000hour machine at a good price put a 1000 hours on it clean it up and fix some mall things and sell it for a profit or if you have a major part failure atleast break even
Brother. You are the man.. like your style.. You make good sense on everything ABOUT Equipment..and you have made excellent investments.. question..this new green deal Is gonna hit everyone ..I'm doomed..
Toward the end of the video around the 14 min mark, or past? You know, how you were saying "Skid loaders" seem to hold their value, you've got that right! I've never looked into the logistics of it, but its probably b/c people trade them back in to the dealers, vs private sell them or something? so a supply and demand aspect? I kind of believe, its ridiculous how the army swiss knife of loaders, has such a high mark up...when trying to find a good deal. Where I live, even the ragged out crap, people ask ridiculous prices.. @ which point its like.. "Fine, keep your garbage, I'll just go buy new"... & deal with a payment.
You aren’t kidding about the size of a TL12. I saw one in person for the 1st time about 2 weeks ago and my 1st thought was that your videos don’t do the size justice.
Just got myself a cat 246b! Nothing too special, just wanted to get into skid steers and got it in cash so no bank owns it. Looking at a Cat 299C next week for the heavier work. I would get one like yours if they were a lot cheaper and if I had tons of work for them. Maybe in the future!
cheap is for the homeowner that need it here and there, like me! expensive is for what my neighbor uses for land clearing! and i still do plenty of work on it but mine wouldn’t make it a month what he does 😁👍
After seeing your aerial views, your town and some of your neighbors. My view of California definitely changed for the better, but you right about the people who run it! 🇺🇲
I know this video is 3 years old, but I am going to retire from the federal government in a few years. I want to work for myself, answer to myself, ect. I have done hours and hours of research on skid steers, and my overall perspective is the TL12R is the way I am going to go.
You mention the Kubota dealer in your area is crap.. couldn’t agree more as those guys in the area I believe you reside are the pits (a little shop off I80 just above sac maybe!)
Good stuff Sam, thanks for the videos! Do y’all have any recommendation for a three point PTO driven Mulcher, I run farm tractors and it would be handy.
We own a Old 743 Bobcat also three Takeuchi Two Excavators and a TL8 now we are buying a new one but Takis are very few and far between, new that is. They are telling us Six months out, so we are looking at another Bobcat a T64 track loader. They have on site. But I am torn because the Takeuchi are very very durable period. The new Bobcats are as I hear it not as comparable to the Takis. What’s your thoughts. Monday is do or die.
Thanks for the video. I'd love to try the tackeuchi skidsteer or yanmar excavator. Both dealers in my area are like pulling teeth to deal with. I'd love try a tl8.
Getting close to purchasing a new to me (low hour) ctl. Got it down to Takeuchi tl8, TL230 or an svl75 Kubota. I've put a couple hundred hours on a TL8. Far superior to the Bobcat t250 I used previously.
I worked for a good a mount of years saving my money to buy my first machine truck and trailer. Pops taught hard work pays off. He doesn’t buy everything hoss
@@VBELTandSON i did is it the threaded flat face ? They have a couple options I have same hydraulics as you mine is a TL10 so same high flow low flow set up
I also Bought 2 water fire extinguishers that I Mounted to the back of my machine mine came with the factory Counter weights huge steel rectangles bolted in back so I drilled and tapped some heavy duty mounts for them I work alone and after I started a fire this Summer which I posted on your channel I have those now
I would never buy an old diesel because yeah when they break down they take a while to fix and a a bunch of money.... But gas... I got no problem with 30 year old stuff... Whats the worst repair its gonna have if its not obvious when you buy?
@@w0wnoothernames lots of gas skid steers up here in Canada.... They start better in the cold than diesel....you can usually pickup a 30 year old used gas skid steer for $3,000-$6,000 CAD with nothing wrong with it except the age and get a good 5-10 years out of it
Sam, this seems to be a good time to bring up this topic since the vid is all things reviewed. What ever become of the Gen Y Spartan hitch? I know you seemed to like the heck out of it on your first rip, but have never seen or heard of it again. On a side note to any viewers taking a hard look at the Takeuchi, the 12 is a beast, I run the same set up as Sam. Early on with the V2 guys were knocking the bushings out of the lift jacks with low hours of use, like 500 and less. I don't know if this issue has been addressed by Tak, I would imagine they have. My R2 has been flawless, two years next month, very good unit!!! Keep the tracks turning Sam and take us along for the ride, now if you would just get that 450 with 475 HP. lol lol
@@VBELTandSON what does it weigh with all your pieces? We have tons of acreage covered in kudzu in the Memphis area. I'd like to pick up some kudzu covered land and clear it myself, then make some cash on the side. Thanks.
I'm surprised someone would shit on someone for making money with a machine. 🤔 you hustle with what you got, don't be a leach on everyone else, and be a good person.
Use caution though on older low hours machines. Sometimes the reason for the low hours. Is a lot of problems. God bless

if you have work for it everyweek then for sure buy new.. if youre starting out and your local market i pretty saturated with operators/contractors then youre really better off buying something with cash.. if you buy a 6figure machine and then only get one job a year with it youre gonna be in a shitty situation, and really if youre starting out you dont know how much work youre gonna find until you have the equipment and are getting into the jobs, the way they hold value you can pickup a 5000hour machine at a good price put a 1000 hours on it clean it up and fix some mall things and sell it for a profit or if you have a major part failure atleast break even
Good video Sam. It's a tough decision especially when you're first starting out.
Brother. You are the man.. like your style..
You make good sense on everything ABOUT
Equipment..and you have made excellent investments.. question..this new green deal
Is gonna hit everyone ..I'm doomed..
Please give the cost of each item..........including the Skidsteer !
Takeuchi is like the Toyota of skid steers. Just reliable. Berri No-ICE.
Toward the end of the video around the 14 min mark, or past?
You know, how you were saying "Skid loaders" seem to hold their value, you've got that right! I've never looked into the logistics of it, but its probably b/c people
trade them back in to the dealers, vs private sell them or something? so a supply and demand aspect?
I kind of believe, its ridiculous how the army swiss knife of loaders, has such a high mark up...when trying to find a good deal.
Where I live, even the ragged out crap, people ask ridiculous prices.. @ which point its like.. "Fine, keep your garbage, I'll just go buy new"... & deal with a payment.
You aren’t kidding about the size of a TL12. I saw one in person for the 1st time about 2 weeks ago and my 1st thought was that your videos don’t do the size justice.
Yeah it’s huge. Most of the ones we run are 4 ton machines at the biggest for dirt work cause we can’t even fit one of these in the job site.
Great video Sam I really enjoyed this information 🇺🇲💯
You should go into the spec of Takeuchi vs the others. Takeuchi is an animal.
We have a 299 and love it
I also have a cat 246B it just broke forever last week sadly.
cheap is for the homeowner that need it here and there, like me! expensive is for what my neighbor uses for land clearing! and i still do plenty of work on it but mine wouldn’t make it a month what he does 😁👍
Skid steer best bang for the buck don't know what I would have ever done without it.
Those dirt cheap track loaders are the best!
They cost more than a house in southern states.. dirt cheap?
After seeing your aerial views, your town and some of your neighbors. My view of California definitely changed for the better, but you right about the people who run it! 🇺🇲
What is the make and model of the stump grinder? And the shear?
Love these equipment videos thanks
Great video. You videos are very informative that one of the things I like about them.
Lol yup that’s them!
Crazy I want the same combo and this video pops up😂
Good stuff Sam, thanks for the videos!
Vertical lift is best for dirt work as in loading dump trucks etc.
I agree.
Thanks for the video. I'd love to try the tackeuchi skidsteer or yanmar excavator. Both dealers in my area are like pulling teeth to deal with. I'd love try a tl8.
Thanks for making videos like this one bud 👍
You definitely have some great tools 😬👍🏻
Always remember: nothing parties like a rental
What do y’all think about the Gehl VT 320?
Getting close to purchasing a new to me (low hour) ctl. Got it down to Takeuchi tl8, TL230 or an svl75 Kubota. I've put a couple hundred hours on a TL8. Far superior to the Bobcat t250 I used previously.
Chris ,bad memory thing ..tip ears need deep clean,Great job God bless,
If pops pay for it, good and expensive, on your own and beginning, cheap enough to get things done!
I worked for a good a mount of years saving my money to buy my first machine truck and trailer. Pops taught hard work pays off. He doesn’t buy everything hoss
@@VBELTandSON just having fun young man and the way I wish I could do it. Respectfully - Mr Hoss

@Teak I see you on Jason Gieman's livestreams funny to see you here.
I have a 2016 TL 10 love it ! Where ya get those couplers at I need those ?
How do you charge? Hourly? How much to make a decent living
plan to take care of the expensive one, great investment
Plan to take care of anything I buy lol
@@VBELTandSON No exactly, not meaning its junk. I mean save up, get the better equipment, and take care of it
What about the gaurd on the back of that machine can we buy that from tachahuchi or is that made aftermarket sorry typed early in video.
Nice setup!
What are the part numbers for those connections
Look up stucci
@@VBELTandSON i did is it the threaded flat face ? They have a couple options I have same hydraulics as you mine is a TL10 so same high flow low flow set up
I also
Bought 2 water fire extinguishers that I Mounted to the back of my machine mine came with the factory
Counter weights huge steel rectangles bolted in back so I drilled and tapped some heavy duty mounts for them I work alone and after I started a fire this Summer which I posted on your channel I have those now
They are on the way thanks bud!!
Thanks
I would never buy an old diesel because yeah when they break down they take a while to fix and a a bunch of money.... But gas... I got no problem with 30 year old stuff... Whats the worst repair its gonna have if its not obvious when you buy?
🤔
unleaded heavy equipment 🤣🤣ok pal
@@w0wnoothernames lots of gas skid steers up here in Canada.... They start better in the cold than diesel....you can usually pickup a 30 year old used gas skid steer for $3,000-$6,000 CAD with nothing wrong with it except the age and get a good 5-10 years out of it
@@w0wnoothernames ruclips.net/video/Vhlp82Y7d-A/видео.html
Love your videos keep it up
Whats your monthly note on that machine
No note. Not sure what a full amount on a loan would be
I took excavator for same reason... can get a adapter to attach skidteer attachments to my excavator...
Damn that head only weighs 600 pounds less than my ASV 30.
Looking back would you do anything different?
I would have got this machine sooner
Dude , your a badass
Keep the tracks turning Sam and take us along for the ride, now if you would just get that 450 with 475 HP. lol lol
How long do you get out of a set of tracks? I was told you only get 500 hrs a set. Seems low to me.
1200-2000hrs
@@VBELTandSON that sounds more like it. I think this guy must of been strictly black top or rough concrete.
@@codyk3881 That makes sense. Dang 500 doesn't seem like enough at all. lol
So, with your trailer loaded like that, Do you have to go through scales or weigh stations?
Nothing illegal about it
@@VBELTandSON what does it weigh with all your pieces?
We have tons of acreage covered in kudzu in the Memphis area. I'd like to pick up some kudzu covered land and clear it myself, then make some cash on the side.
Thanks.
Maybe 19ish. I can haul much more
What model is that gooseneck?
Fmax 212
I am on the market now for skid steer, debating between Cat 289d3 and TL10V2
Can you help ?which buy will be smarter?
Cat is junk now. Buddy running one and has good amount of issues. Over priced not worth it. I like Takeuchi a lot. Very solid machines
Thank you
Hey, do you have to have a CDL A to haul this? Thanks
Yup
What about a kubota slv95 do you think It will do the job.
Yeah they do fine but 16hp less than a Takeuchi
If you don't mind what was the price that you got for the takhoochie skid-steer I'm looking to buy one just curious
Idk what they cost now. Price in everything went way up
I'm surprised someone would shit on someone for making money with a machine. 🤔 you hustle with what you got, don't be a leach on everyone else, and be a good person.
What part are who are you referring to?
AWESOME !
