I enjoyed the steps you took going from the least aggressive method and gradually moving to more aggressive means to clean up the screw driver. It tends to lessen the damage on the screw driver (and ultimately your labor). Thanks for the video.

I have a couple of smaller sized Stanley Workmaster screwdrivers, smoke grey handles, that I bought, probably in the late 70's early 80's. I used to use Goo Gone, but switched to De-Solv-it which does as good a job without being caustic or smelling like turpentine, in fact it is food safe, because it is mostly Di-Limonene, made from citrus peels. For alcohol I use regular IPA, which is same as denatured without the added poison.

My passion is old made in US slip joint knives with scales that have shrunk, dull blades and just plain ugly. Not surprisingly the innards springs, brass liners and blades are still rock solid from American craftsman. I take off the scales and add cherry wood scales that I dry in my garage.

I remember looking up that model right after Adam made that video and they were all gone off of eBay and I just searched again and see people selling ones like yours was in the beginning for $50+
I like the design of it, but I don’t like it $50 much! I have to wonder if Adam searches for prices of things prior to releasing a rave video on a vintage item and if he collaborates with people who have things to sell, hoping to make a big profit off of his raves. I kind of don’t like that, if that’s the case. But I understand it. To me, it’s kind of like the Wilton Bullet vise. It’s got a ton of gravitas and iconic pedigree as well as years of raves from popular makers on RUclips. But anyone who knows anything about vises will tell you that it’s very good, but certainly not the best of the best. But if Adam did a video about them tomorrow, and we checked today, the sales prices of the ones from today would more than double in a day and only go up from there. As soon as you see it, your heart starts beating fast and you want it. Why? Because Adam said it was so great. We are all too easy to manipulate 😅

I shouldn't be so judgmental. I am sorry about that.

  • @jackasswhiskyandpintobeans9344

Why would you want to clean an old tool? The scuffs, paint, oil, et al are testaments that it was used for work. I can understand rust.

@@357magdad I get that, but it's perfectly good dirt and ads character to a tool. I know where and when each spalt of paint came from on my Estwing hammer.

I can’t believe this. Don’t you know that standard screwdrivers are designed to slip?? The only good design is a hollow ground. Of course for those are really informed

Thanks for watching Ron! My goal was to clean up an old screwdriver, not re-grind the tip.

Oh the memories of Jaime griping Adam out over abusing his shop tools and Adams responding with "Funnels caked with Methyl Ethyl Keytones". Miss that old show. Hey where can I join Chucks fan club?😂

I’ve been using Goo Gone Professional Strength with some success on paint removal on plastic handles. Awesome job looks fantastic!

@@357magdad yes I saw that. The one I use is a newer one I think. It’s called professional goo gone. It seems a little stronger. 🤷🏼‍♂️
