Like most NW fans I was so looking forward to this release...and then I heard the truly awful mix of the original, with Floor's voice almost completely buried, it was near impossible to make out the words to even one single line she was singing, which is kinda ironic as Tuomas's lyrics are so important to the song and concept. You commented that you thought if anything you should've maybe lifted her vocals even a touch more - and I agree!! Anyway, thank you once again for making a great song sound much better. Yours is now my go-to version. You rock! 👍🤘
I was afraid I lifted the vocals too much, but now I'm thinking I should have lifted them even more. At least they are now audible.

I really don't like how they mixed Floors vocals tbh. They are lost underneath the layers of instruments.. shame though cause I like the song!! This is an improvement!!

The video seems to be the official video for this song so no changes there.
I think Tuomas wanted Floors voice to represent all of our ancestry's like a muffled sound. I'm sure the other tracks will have her more upfront, well I hope. Great job though.
Love to hear Floor loud and clear. I hate it when they bury the vocals. They used to do it with Tarja particularly on Century Child

I think what i enjoy about this version in particular isnt just that floor is louder, but the whole song feels less muted.

And I always thought that it was Tarja's singing that was hard to understand - perhaps it was Tuomas all along! He made things hard to understand - not her!

Yes, now you can hear Floor nice and clear 👍 ... but I do prefer the original because the music is so very complex. You can't fully take in wonderful, masterful layers of the music itself if the vocals are on top. I guess what I'm trying to say, after reading many, many complaints about the mix is to appreciate the music (choir, instrumental, symphony, animal sounds) and therefore the vision of our maestro ❤
I understand what you are saying, but I also disagree. For me the song went from very good to awesome after lifting the vocals. It's still not quite like GLS, TPATP or TGSOE, but it's still a masterpiece. If we want to listen to the orchestra in full glory, we will get our chance when the album is released.
Second time I have listened to this now - and as a singer myself, I loved how much easier it was to actually pick out the lyrics AND the sung notes this time.

I supoose I'll be the contrary opinion here and state that I vastly prefer the original version.
Not the only one. Her voice is way too out front for me here. It’s overtaken the music. The only part of the song where her voice was even slightly low was the one part of the chorus but once you know the lyrics you hear every word just fine.
Of course you have right to like the original more, but for me it sounded bad...and I'm not alone with this opinion. It is totally different to lift vocals afterwards, than if they would have done it in the mixing phase. Now the vocals are competing with orchestra, and it sounds a bit chaotic. I'm still pretty happy with my versions.
@@NightwishArena Dude, this isn't a criticism leveled at you, clearly most people didn't like the mix on the original version and I'm sure appreciate what you did. I just wanted to throw my two cents in and say that I prefer the original mix, after all, mixing tastes are largely subjective.

Have you done this to all the albums? Especially Once? I love that album, but it would be so much better if the vocals were made clearer like you have done here.
I actually have album remasters too, but I'm not sure if they are any better, because I haven't published them. Probably I wasn't completely satisfied with those (or I thought I will perfect them later). I need to check them out.

No. Any multitrack DAW will do the trick, and there are tons of free plugins and software to separate vocal track.
It's unfortunate that only copyright owners can make copyright claims. Reaction videos are a different matter and should not be blocked, but all streaming income from these videos should go to the artist of the original content. In this case artist loses streaming income.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
All the streaming income from my videos goes to artist and label. RUclips has a ContentID system, which recognizes the songs and make copyright claims automatically.

Could you tell more details about how did you re-mix this? Do you use some software such as Melodyne to separate audio and then remix it?
Basically I just separated the vocal track (x-minus.pro), and added it on top of original, then adjusted the volumes.
@@NightwishArena I was surprised to find out that this simple method works. I would have expected to hear more high frequency audio artefacts for this kind of process. Great work!
@@MikkoRantalainen of course there is something else too, like a tons of eq for the stem, and trying to lift the vocals on original track. And not trying to make stem too isolated, it's going back to mix anyway. Just pick the one which has less artifacts. I'm sure there are easier methods which gives even better results.

I do wonder, if anyone can answer....WHy on earth would they mix the song so Floors vocals are drowned in the music? I mean...its not like they are amatures they work with to mix their music. I would imagien someone during that process must have noticed that
Try listening the official song with high quality headphones vs low quality speakers. For some reason they decided to mix the audio so that you have to use really good speaker setup to correctly play the audio. With high quality audio setup, you can clearly hear Floor in the original mix but with anything less than stellar audio setup, it all goes to mess.
I guess they only used high quality studio monitors while mixing the official song.
@@MikkoRantalainen I think that is the real downside of Genelec speakers/monitors. They are too good.
@@NightwishArena A good pair of headphones is even more accurate than Genelec monitors but luckily I have both.
Its by choice. Kai told yhe story in an interview. Floor is part of the choir, not suppose to stand out. Artistic choice....

@@Honken55 Having a better Vocal Mix wouldn't make it more Mainstream, plus Mainstream isn't a bad thing, Nightwish are absolutely massive and headline arenas around the world, they're pretty much as mainstream as it gets when it comes to Symphonic Metal, this whole "Mainstream = Bad" attitude that people have is weird, so many Metal bands that are huge and loved around the world have been mainstream at points in their career

Thank you for Lifting the floor, but the Problems are not even the vocals, also the kick drum with too much Low end. The Hihats are also too Low. I really Love Nightwish and I Love this Song and I know Tuomas is a Genius, so I do Not know how Theese mistakes can Happen.
Of course these are matter of taste, but for me the biggest issue was the vocals. Unfortunately there is no way I can lift only vocals without altering the whole mix, so it kind of ruins the rest of the mix, but in overall I'm happier with lifted vocals.

I don`t believe so. They just made a contract, re-sign with Nuclear Blast and Tuomas has said that if Floor leaves, no Nightwish anymore. Why they would do that contract if Floor is leaving?
