Hi Coach, I just started playing tennis again for about a year now, before that I hadn’t played tennis in 23 years and back then I was rated a 4.5 player and I used to win in singles and doubles, today at 52 years old I am a 3.5 player because I can’t move that well because I have two hip replacements, and the my two handed backhand is complete trash now.
Yesterday some guy set me up to play singles and I was supposed to play doubles, so this guy intentionally set me up to play singles against 4.5 league champs and I lost 24 games in a row, I didn’t quit and I played my ass off but I lost because my back hand is so bad that the players just kept hitting to it, I also was playing with a new Wilson Blade vs6 98 which was the second time I had ever played with it. I was also playing on clay and I hadn’t played on clay in 23 years, it was a horrible experience for me, but I didn’t quit and I am thinking about changing my backhand to a one handed backhand because I think it will help me because my left shoulder is repaired and I am not able to hit the two handed backhand like I used to when I was a younger. The only good thing out of the match was I hit a bunch of aces but couldn’t capitalize on the adds, now apparently those guys don’t know me, because I am going to go back there again and destroy them in singles in a few months once I get this back hand sorted out, because they are very snobby and jerks and they need to be humbled. Although the one guy told me I had heart and he has never played against a guy like myself who never quit, and said if the score wasn’t posted people would think I was up 6-0, I joked and changed the score on change over and the members started laughing and literally pulling for me to just win a game, which I didn’t. I was so upset after those matches It literally took me like 5 hours to calm down, I thought they set me up for failure because I told the captain I was disabled and he set me up with a impossible feat! So I am going to train and take his doubles title from him. Because I am way better at doubles than singles and I know I can beat their doubles team if I had a partner. Obviously I am still a bit chapped about what happened to me. Do you think I should change to a one handed backhand? I have videos of myself practicing on my channel and I live in Florida. So maybe you and I could get together sometime for a lesson, which I am self taught and learned everything from watching others and training on the court. Thank you Coach .

The real problem with the majority of tennis players is they are incredibly impatient. 30-60 days!? The second they can hit 3 consecutive OH backhands over the net off a easy feed they will immediately try to rally with someone maybe even play points and short circuit the process. Of course they’ll fail under the pressure of trying to maintain a full speed rally and not wanting to give their friend a poor hitting experience. Treat tennis like it’s hard and it becomes easy to learn. Treat tennis like it’s easy and it becomes hard to learn. Most tennis players treat tennis like it’s the easiest sport to learn in the way they disrespect the learning process. Frankly any sport would be nearly impossible to master with their impatience.
