The speakers placed next to one another are the center channel pair (mono) wired in series, and are placed like that to improve directivity, sensitivity, and smooth response over a single unit. They are not playing during this video or any 2-ch material. Yes, there is some mild side-to-side lobing in the trebel range that occurs in this arrangement, but the dramatic improvement in the mid bass control and dialog performance far outweighs that in practice.
