nice find Nobby i saw a very similar complete one for sale yesterday at a flea market, the dealer wanted £145 for it, i've no idea on the price of these items, but thought it was extortionate atb Kev
I have that exact engine from when I was a kid that I used to hook up to my Meccano creations almost 50 years ago now. I can remember being very envious on one kid bringing his mamod car to school at the end of term games day. I can just imagine the H&S nightmare that steaming up an engine by a 10 year old at a school would mean today 😂
I hankered after a Mamod engine when I was a boy. This was almost 70 years ago. But with my pocket money then was totally out of reach. Now kids would rather have computer games over burnt fingers 😢 Nobby
@nobbysworkshop exactly, I felt very lucky to get a 2nd hand stationary mamod, I wonder how many of today's toys will still be usable over 1/2 century later, instead of just plastic rubbish
Great find Nobby 👍👍👍 I don't have an example of that exact SE1 but I do have an earlier flat base version. If you need the dimensions of the piston and conrod let me know. If you are going to repaint the firebox I recommend E-Tech XHT High Temperature Paint. I've used this successfully for several years. I know you don't intend to steam the engine but someone in the future might. The closest paint to Mamod green was Plasti-Kote Green Apple B50. Unfortunately this is no longer available. However, Halfords Ford Highland Green is a pretty close match. Cheers, Alan.
I was very pleased my wife spotted it Alan. And at £12 I can’t complain. Thank you for the info on the paints. I was thinking of barbecue paint for the firebox. But I’ll take your recommendation on the E-Tech paint. Cheers Nobby
That’s right Julia. I’ve got so many projects lined up now. Should keep me busy next year. I’m hoping I can complete the PM Research kit by Christmas. Thanks for your tip on the solder. I’m hoping I can clean up the Mamod without de-soldering anything. Cheers Nobby
What a beautiful find Nobby, well done to your wife.
I was so happy my wife spotted it Bryce. Also pleased with the reasonable price. ATB Nobby

That price does seem a bit over the odds Kev. This one cost £12 😊 That’s more like it 😂 Cheers Nobby
Plenty to keep you busy Nobby! Nice find.
My future projects list is getting longer and longer Stuart. Should keep me busy next year. Cheers Nobby

@@Paul-FrancisBYou’re absolutely right Paul, with computers now only designed to last 3 or 4 years at best. Take care. Nobby

Looks like fun Nobby lots of projects stacking up 🤣 I think the mamod boilers are soft soldered so no need for silver solder on that.
