    The built in loop tools addon also has a "flatten" button

    • @ArtisansofVaul
      @ArtisansofVaul  9 месяцев назад +1

      That's true. But (if I remember correctly) it works in a very different way that's a lot less useful, working off the average normals (so it rarely gets it the way you want it to be) or view (again rarely useful unless you want to flatten in the x, you or z axis)

    Thanks! Seems much quicker and efficient than going to the vertex i want to flatten to, setting the 3d cursor there, then changing pivot point to the cursor... then selecting the verts i want and doing scale -> z -> 0... then finally setting pivot point back to whatever it was before... thats what i did before lol

      I totally agree. Way faster. As soon as you have to do it more than one time the time savings start to add up massively

    You could also use the native scale cage, grab the upper handle, hold down LMB, type "0" and hit ENTER...
    ...Provided that the scale cage doesn't get buggy again...

      @ArtisansofVaul  10 месяцев назад

      That's a good call. Needing to do a lot on it will soon add up as it makes it a longer process but it definetly works.

    S+Z+0?

    • @juliusfucik4011
      @juliusfucik4011 10 месяцев назад +6

      Indeed

    • @ArtisansofVaul
      @ArtisansofVaul  10 месяцев назад +14

      That works but it's not the same as aligning to a point of your choice. To do that you'd have to s+z+0 and then snap to the vertex you want. And thay definetly takes more time.

      @alexmunaro7918 👍🏻 Also because of where the keys are and that you can just flick your mouse in the direction to select (the way I do the second time) it's way faster to do. Not bad for a free addon that does a load more besides 😁

      to be fair, when do you need that? it just aligns in object/world space and nobody needs to align that often if you model correctly. aligning with constrains would be something usefull, or editing with constrains but blender doesnt have that at all... a 25y old max feature@@ArtisansofVaul

    Loop Tools > Flatten is also super helpful for getting planar surfaces

      Just grab them and scale Y. Or if u want them scaled to a point just move the pivot there and scale.

    • @ArtisansofVaul
      @ArtisansofVaul  9 месяцев назад

      @@JinxSwe moving the pivot takes longer than this does for sure. And scaling on the Y averages out to the middle and you might not want that

      @@ArtisansofVaul So just pressing the D key, move the pivot then scale takes longer to download a addon?

    • @ArtisansofVaul
      @ArtisansofVaul  9 месяцев назад

      @JinxSwe I mean yes but it's an addon I have and I've used a hundred times. Much less time to download and then be able to do this as fast as it is in the video the first time I do it than this process 100 times. But you do you, if you prefer it that's fine.

    Addon bloat

      I mean if making something vastly faster than the standard Blender method is bloat then I guess you're right.... But in that case I'll take all the add on bloat I can get
