We joke about his lyrics, not meaning they're not good, I love his music, please don't get me wrong - but he's very creative and sometimes it's hard to get what he means. He has explained some in interviews, it's interesting. I wonder what it is like for someone from another country then.

The genre 'MPB' (which means Brazilian Pop Music) have different styles of smoothness songs since it is derived from 'Bossa Nova' (you already heard "The Girl From Ipanema", even if you don't know the name). =) Another artist really similar to Djavan is Jorge Vercillo.
My father was a musician. I listened Djavan's musics by my father's voice before I listen the original versions. My father died in 2008. Today Djavan's music are very special to me because everytime I listen, a feel my father close to me.

Abs!
Djavan is the treasure of Brazilian music, his lyrics are full of puns that may seem strange at one moment, but are full of meanings, some recount intimate moments with friends and some life enigmas.
Djavan is a very popular artist in Brazil, even those who have never heard of him, must have at least heard any of his songs. I think the weight of his music comes especially from the lyrics. People can relate to the emotions and sensations he describes beautifully in his writing.
Cassia Eller que gostava de ouvir Camaron De La Isla... Gravou músicas dele inclusive... Saiu agora disco inédito dela cantando com o guitarrista Biglione... Destaque para " If six was nine" de Hendrix...
I consider him the Brazilian jazz master. His voice is clear, strong and has amazing range. Can’t wait until he comes to Los Angeles this coming spring
Just found this! First I saw your YES Reaction & you need to hear more complex YES with the GREAT JON ANDERSON but Brazilian Artist especially DJAVAN is one of my absolute favorite Composer/Singers. He's a national treasure & his songs have been recorded and sung by many Great Artist of Brazil. In fact he's returning hear to the US soon. I saw him Live in the late 80's first time! LOVE IT. BTW Brazil audiences always sing along and on key! He has a very delicate almost vulnerable voice as if it could veer off key or break but he never does and it's beautiful especially with his signature key changing style in his writing. He's very jazzy & funky! His slower ballads are simply breathtaking! Again the nasal sound is a quality of Brazilian singing & language. I like your REACTIONS!
Beth... the word devoro is used in Portuguese to describe the hanger of starvation, that need for food that is a body surviving need. So when he uses the verb devorar he is doing a sensual methafore that indicates that his feelings for that person are so intense that seems like this survival need for food that humans have when they are starving... Is a feeling so intense that without it he could die ..
There"s not just samba in Brazil. We have dozens of diferent rithms that influences our popular music. Djavan is one of the biggest and most known composers here. He is considered a great blues singer. Brasilian blues!!! Yeah!!!! Our culture, is much bigger than that showed in the world. I am very proud of it.
100% that, Djavan is ok, but Ed Motta is easily one of the best Brazilian singers alive today. and its funny how he is so underrated in Brazil, but very popular outside. probably because people here just don't like his style of Funky Jazz and soul.
The bass player playing this show for him is Serginho Carvalho, which is one of the best bass players in Brasil. He was the son of the bass player of a band I sang in called Get Back, we did covers of rock pop classics. One day he came to our show to visit his dad and complemented our playing and my singing to me, then proceeded to give a class on dynamics and the fact that to be good we didn't have to make the audiences ears bleed. An invaluable and humbling experience that he delivered with utmost class.
I think that if you listened to the song with subtitles in English to better understand what the singer is playing, the interaction with the video would become even better, taking the opportunity to suggest listening to the song "Sozinho by Caetano Veloso", a great Brazilian singer , great video!
@@guilhermetonon7267 Vento solar e estrelas do mar. Vento solar e estrelas do mar. Você ainda... quer morar comigo?
Djavan is one of those artists that either it's not your style or you totally fall in love with him. This song is particularly romantic, one of his best love songs. I highly recommend you reading the lyrics in english. It will give you a totally different understanding of It. :333
Hello! I've always listened and I've always enjoyed listening to Brazilian popular music, like a good Brazilian, but I've never observed the nuances of singing so deeply as I do now, after finding your channel. Your work is fantastic, I'm drinking and getting drunk with your analysis. Thank you very much!
Thank you so much for your kind words and for your support! I'm thrilled to hear that my channel has helped you appreciate Brazilian popular music even more deeply. It's always great to hear that my work is having a positive impact on others. Cheers! Thank you again for your support, and I hope you continue to enjoy my content.
Beth, listen too Milton Nascimento! Elis Regina once said: "If God would have some voice, that would be like Milton" ❤ I love all music of him but "Francisco" make me cry almost always

If you want i can show to you a lot of brazilian musicians.
Whats ur poison? I may have some stuff for you.
You should see his live version of "Oceano" because other than being a great singer, he's a great guitar player too :) Lovely review as always :)

YES FINALLY!!!! Djavan is a national treasure and this isn't even his best performance.
Great job!!
Wow you did Djavan! He inspired me to learn about Brazilian culture. Brazilian Portuguese is the most beautiful language , I think
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Djavan é um poeta
Deveriam ter indicado pra ela reagir a “Oceano”. Nessa sim ele explora muita as habilidades vocais
De fato, seria uma escolha perfeita.
Verdade!
Recomendo.
Uruguai e Brasil são países irmãos ❤
Djavan is the treasure of Brazilian music, his lyrics are full of puns that may seem strange at one moment, but are full of meanings, some recount intimate moments with friends and some life enigmas.
Minha aposta é que o próximo artista brasileiro que ela irá reagir será o Lenine, cantando a música "Paciência" (Lenine in Cité)
You have my vote :) Lenine for sure
Ainda espero ela reagir a Marisa Monte
Lenine cantando o silêncio das estrelas
Yeah, I'm voting for Lenine as well. o/
Please Beth.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 We need your react to Lenine. There are so many musics from him to react. ❤

You should listen to the accoustic version of this song. It's just awesome.

Beth, you should try Ed Motta singing Fora da lei or Colombina. He is famous in Brazil for singing making the sounds of instruments in his songs!
