Admist all these fanboys from HTC, Samsung and iPhone, let's compare the U11 with the S8 in areas that are critical in my opinion. 1) Design and display- S8 is the clear winner with its infinite display and smaller bezels. If you want a device with the best looks and cares less about anything else go on and 'unbox' your phone... 2) Performance- Both have the SD835 and same RAM (there's a 6GB version of the U11 though) so it's really hard to give either of these two the upper hand. Both are beasts and can handle anything you throw at it. Saying this is better and other device is shit is purely fanboy talks. 3) Camera - Both has almost the same camera and U11 slightly takes advantage with its 4 microphones catching 3D audio which is nice. So the HTC U11 rules out here (DXO wasn't joking U11 has one crazy good camera) so I give the win to HTC. 4) Audio - No need of arguments HTC is obviously sounding better with those speakers. But for headphones S8 has a AKG pair of buds which currently is the best earbuds to ship with a device while HTC including a sonar like pair with active noise cancellation and a built-in DAC in your USB C to 3.5 mm dongle. So before listening to a U11 you can't give a verdict on that but speakers - HTC U11 all the way. 5) Software - U11 offers a snappy near stock android experience and S8 offers touchwiz with greater customization and looks. Your preference totally depends on your choice so I won't state a winner here. Some prefer the HTC for being super snappy with its clean launcher and the rest prefer the S8 because it's really amazing to look at and show off points are on favour of the S8 for its sheer beauty. In general both phones have the water resistance and htc has squeeze gimmick and S8 has edge functions and heart rate sensors and all but I'm ignoring all those because they are not everyone's features. These are the areas I think that does matter it can vary from what you expect from your flagship. Don't call GS8 is shit and HTC U11 is shit because neither is... Both are great smartphones. :) #peace

This device actually looks really good: IP 67, supposedly a very competitive camera with 90 score on DxOMark, nice audio recording and playback, interesting tactile addons on the squeeze thing and top notch SoC and internals. If the device is as good as it seems, looks like a serious competitor for the G6 and the S8 if you're not a bezel-less maniac, form factor could be better for sure though
I like the flat screen(for tempered glass) and squeeze feature as I won't have to remove gloves at work to run a flashlight or start a music app. Battery life remains to be seen. Solar Red all the way! But no wireless charging?
The LCD on HTC 10 was on of the best as they made the screen really close to the glass and improved super sensitivity. Its the best LCD screen ever imo. But amoled is better at colors and outdoorz.

At least the speakers use the extra space to have larger "echo chambers" so-to-speak, so the speakers are louder and better quality than the HTC 10. Yes. Glass is the standard now, but their implementation and design is so ugly. Yes, the average *American* consumer uses bluetooth headphones, but that can't match the quality of premium plug-in headphones. No, IP67 is simply not innovative, it would've been 5 years ago, but the standard now is IP68. The only manufacturers that use the IPx7 rating are the manufacturers that cheap out on quality, and simply do that just to say that their phone has waterproofing.

I owned the M7 and M8 and absolutely loved both of them. Ever since HTC can't get their shit together. No headphone jack, no front facing speakers, doesn't have 6gb or ram like the international version, it's only being sold on Sprint and has a $700 USD price tag. Doesn't sound like they've learned any lessons at all.

I don't hear anything wrong with it... Say goodbye to metal, and hello to that familiar liquid-design language we saw in the U Ultra and Play. It leverages the same all-metal/glass construction and unibody aluminum band, with the same mirror-esque finish. I guess the only problem with it if you REALLY want to be picky, is that the aluminum band is technically not "unibody", but otherwise there's no problems with grammar and it makes perfect sense.
That is not necessary true about Super LCD displays having better outdoor visibility in direct sunlight. As AMOLED displays have far superior outdoor visibility in direct sunlight.

The commentary section is nightmare. I am a longtime HTC fan, I admit the front is ugly, battery size is not promising (so is the S8 btw). But I'd say it's a good device for 2017, you've asked a great camera, waterproof, HTC got it right this time. No headphone jack, true, not convenient for right now, but active noise cancelling and better sound quality for exchange, plus the jack is dying, like it or not. The new way to interact with the phone: Edge Sense, might be no so needed, but you got admit sometimes it would be better to have it: when taking selfie on one hand, under water, or when not both hands available, etc. Poor use of space? No, when you have the chance to open it, you'll see the audio module size and that makes audio quality incredible, really incredible, you have to hear yourself. Price tag, well in Taiwan you can get it now for 599euros, good enough. But for EU, 759euros, less impressive, it would be more considerable at 659. Overall, not a that bad device like those exaggerated negative comments. And lastly I'm honest, I see both good and bad of HTC.
Just because it's made of "liquid gas" doesn't mean it's beautiful... it looks ugly and dull. It reminds me of the Honor 8. For $700? not worth it, get a Galaxy or iPhone. I'm still using my HTC one M8. Granted the camera is full of dust internally and it's started playing up a little. But I've loves this handset. I've been. Waiting for HTC to make another awesome handset with front facing boomsound speakers, they were what beat the competition for me. This thing is lacklustre at best, and bland looking to boot. Time to give in waiting for HTC and go back to galaxies I think...

There're two kinds of types(spec) on U11 which we can choose. One is 128GB of storage with 6g ram, and the other one is 64GB of storage with 4g ram.
I would take thick bezels if it stereo front facing speakers.
At least the speakers use the extra space to have larger "echo chambers" so-to-speak, so the speakers are louder and better quality than the HTC 10.

the bezels look quite manageable in person. 2.5D glass helps manage bezels a lot in actual usage. People also just love to jump on the HTC hate bandwagon. Sure, we've all seen their failures, but we should give credit where it is due. A good example is the HTC U Ultra frequently outshining the LG G6 in several key areas, but none of the big tech blogs want to agree. Yes, MKBHD and AA I'm looking at you.

Yes. Glass is the standard now, but their implementation and design is so ugly. Yes, the average *American* consumer uses bluetooth headphones, but that can't match the quality of premium plug-in headphones. No, IP67 is simply not innovative, it would've been 5 years ago, but the standard now is IP68. The only manufacturers that use the IPx7 rating are the manufacturers that cheap out on quality, and simply do that just to say that their phone has waterproofing.

I owned the M7 and M8 and absolutely loved both of them. Ever since HTC can't get their shit together. No headphone jack, no front facing speakers, doesn't have 6gb or ram like the international version, it's only being sold on Sprint and has a $700 USD price tag. I don't hear anything wrong with it... Say goodbye to metal, and hello to that familiar liquid-design language we saw in the U Ultra and Play. It leverages the same all-metal/glass construction and unibody aluminum band, with the same mirror-esque finish. I guess the only problem with it if you REALLY want to be picky, is that the aluminum band is technically not "unibody", but otherwise there's no problems with grammar and it makes perfect sense.
HTC 11 camera now has the best DxOMark score of 90 across all smartphones. Better than Galaxy S8 & Google Pixel.
That is not necessary true about Super LCD displays having better outdoor visibility in direct sunlight. As AMOLED displays have far superior outdoor visibility in direct sunlight.

I am a longtime HTC fan, I admit the front is ugly, battery size is not promising (so is the S8 btw). But I'd say it's a good device for 2017, you've asked a great camera, waterproof, HTC got it right this time. No headphone jack, true, not convenient for right now, but active noise cancelling and better sound quality for exchange, plus the jack is dying, like it or not. The new way to interact with the phone: Edge Sense, might be no so needed, but you got admit sometimes it would be better to have it: when taking selfie on one hand, under water, or when not both hands available, etc.
Poor use of space? No, when you have the chance to open it, you'll see the audio module size and that makes audio quality incredible, really incredible, you have to hear yourself.
Price tag, well in Taiwan you can get it now for 599euros, good enough. But for EU, 759euros, less impressive, it would be more considerable at 659.
Overall, not a that bad device like those exaggerated negative comments. And lastly I'm honest, I see both good and bad of HTC.

Just because it's made of "liquid gas" doesn't mean it's beautiful... it looks ugly and dull. It reminds me of the Honor 8. For $700? not worth it, get a Galaxy or iPhone. HTC needs to be reasonable and stop making ugly phones. It has all the basic features you find on most flagships it doesn't have anything unique or worth getting.
