It’s interesting to note that in the end, neither chishiya nor the king of diamonds were throwing the game. What chishiya was doing was taking away the anonymity and “chance” of it all that the king of diamonds was relying on for his ideals. The whole point was that he didn’t want to choose someone’s fate and by chishiya telling him what he was doing was forcing the king to do exactly that; either knowingly kill chishiya or knowingly put himself on the line bc of what he saw was right. It was honestly more a battle of wills and was why chishiya was surprised that the king chose to lose on the last round. Think about it, both the king and chishiya had seen the shittiest of people in their profession, seen innocent lives get taken from people because of other peoples’ selfishness. This was against their own ideals yet let it pass as it was either lose the chance to help everyone or only help those they can and they both chose the latter. That’s why in this world, in this game, the king took away that pressure from himself entirely and left it all up to chance as if a contestant died, it was all their own selfish doing. Chishiya was measuring this as well. It’s a reoccurring theme that in the last moments of someone’s life (most of them that is) they choose selfishness and will often take as many people down with them, chishiya and the king both knew this and were testing each other to see if the other would fall to that same selfishness despite claiming to to hold themselves up to such high standards and ideologies. That’s why it’s so monumental that the king chose death and why chishiya was so surprised by it, because he showed that against all odds, even his very own death, he chose to stand by his ideals and do what was right. This is exactly why chishiya praises him at the end in his own way, to acknowledge his attempt to do good (granted in a very twisted way) and to stay true to who he is and what he stands for. This is important in chishiyas arc as a person which you’ll see in the last episode. Love the reactions and keep it up! 🤍

The actress that played the Queen of Spades is a martial arts expert named Chihiro Yamamoto. She actually worked with Usagi actress Tao Tsuchiya on the stunts for this game. In an interview, Tao said her character was a fit climber but not a fighter so her training they purposefully created stunts that were "clumsy" for Usagi (i.e. just using her hands to block her head blows but easily scaling the sheer walls).
Incredibly, the actress that played Usagi did the majority of her own stunts.

King of Diamonds is one of my favorite games. Everyone enters it trying to mathematically outwit each other; but as always, Chishiya instead observes. He’s more interested in understanding the game, and by extent its creator, than winning it. It’s that level of observation which allows Chishiya to then challenge and exploit the characteristics of Kuzuryu in order to win the game.
Kuzuryu was a lawyer who previously failed to defend his ideals, and it broke him. He spends his time in the games trying to wrestle with his own beliefs, hence why he takes interest in the Beach. Chishiya recognizes this internal struggle by observing and straining details from the king, and also through his own similar past experiences and struggle. By forcing Kuzuryu to face his ideals and finally decide, he gives the king a chance to reconcile that grief within and move beyond it, choosing to die for his ideals. Chishiya envies him for it because it’s something even he has failed to accomplish despite winning the game.

think this is one of the most interesting diamond games because chishiya’s line of “what do you think is the value of this life?” when talking about himself, he makes the king of diamonds decide if he will go with his ideals for a fair game even if that means he dies, or will he value his own life above others (like he did in the ‘real world’ before borderland). the convos w both mamoka and mira showed how his ideals were solidified even if chishiya questioned him on it towards the end.
also chishiya is a reference to the Cheshire Cat, observing and acting towards his own motives. Quina is a reference to the caterpillar w her blue swimsuit and her candy-cigarette!

Chishiya having to constantly put the lives of one human over another due to higher ups and seemingly disliking it and then being put in games where he has to put his own life over other people's because of people higher up is definitely a sort of irony. As much as he didn't like it, he was able to overcome that feeling.
The King Of Diamonds was always constantly forced to view certain lives as less valuable in the face of corporation. But he never grew to accept it. And whenever he tried to give up, people reminded him that they would stay true to their ideals. So in the end, he decided to play the game fairly. And stay true to his.

So the real purpose of that game is understanding the psychology of your opponents. You will put yourself into an advantage if you speak and gather info of the other players to have more insight into their minds. Chisiya had a big advantage because he identified the King of Diamonds as a lawyer and related that to his experiences as a doctor who both treaded the line of morality. Both having guilt but Chisiya felt the guilt while the King of Diamonds fought desperately (Even possibly staying in the game) just to try to prove that his choices were out of his control and was justified. At the end of the day Chisiya knew that all he had to do was tell him that "dude it's your choice, not anyone elses" basically. He mind fked the guy so hard that he was having flash backs mid game and finally admitted that yea....I choose my ideals over my justifications. Chisiya is just too smart man. Such a well written, interesting character.

@@Cbay_11 you’re right, they are intended games of logic. I think they’re baseline logic but it’s not enough to truly win. Time and time again these games require you to think outside of logic which is why Chisiya won. Chisiya had to use absurd values outside of logic to win. There’s an element of psychology which gave him the edge over the king. He manipulated the king’s guilty conscious and brought it to light to force him to admit that it was always his choice. So I think yes they’re intended to be logical, calculating games but in reality they’re testing you outside of logic and calculations in this final diamond game. Otherwise, that guy is probably unbeatable, and he showed that.

The King of Diamonds struck me as almost a hybrid between Diamonds and Hearts, when you compare it to a 'pure' Diamonds game like the one with the light bulb. The light bulb game is a straightforward puzzle; you don't have to put yourself in the other players' shoes and predict how they'll act in order to solve it. King of Diamonds though, you can't just win through pure logic, because the numbers you're working with will depend on the kinds of people you're playing against, who in turn are trying to read you for that same reason, and so on.

  • @divineright3034

King of Diamonds game is so good for so many reasons. It starts as a math game but as the game progresses you start playing the other players not the math, like in poker. Chishiya read the King of Diamonds like a book once it was down to just the 2 of them. Statistically winning what has essentially become rock paper scissors that many times in a row where you can't have a draw is nearly impossible. Instead he read the King and gave him the one thing he was never able to have in life. He gave him the ability to choose.

Chishiya is indifferent to life and is willing to do what is necessary for him to live, but doesn’t wish harm on innocent people. He even sees a weakness in himself that he cares so much for Kuina. It’s like a journey for Chishiya to almost find his humanity again and figure out is he willing to act with seemingly “reckless stupidity” that Arisu does which is just his intense empathy for people.

Usagi's in ridiculously good shape and very athletic since we know she's a mountain climber and a freerunner, but we also know she has no experience fighting. That's why we see her go for grapples and wide blocks rather than punches or reacting to specific moves. She's a tank, essentially.
And yea this (entirely original, mind you) game is definitely the biggest Usagi badass moment so far, but don't forget how insane she was during the King of Clubs. Outmaneuvering Goken as well as she did AND clearing that massive jump between containers is definitely superhuman.
If you boil it down, it makes a lot of sense that some people would consider this world better. Just as many people are manipulated into backstabbing each other or dying in unfair situations as in the real world, but there's at least an actual transparent system to things. And if you have the skills to win, you actually can win. Tons of people irl with the proficiency and hard work to succeed are screwed over by circumstances completely unrelated to them. The game world isn't really more brutal than ours, it's just more transparent and structured, and also far less dependent on luck to make it.
Now that's not to say I would prefer it, as I definitely don't have those skills in the first place lol so i would die pretty fast, and my real life is also fairly privileged, but if those two things were not the case, I could definitely see the appeal. It's inherently safer because you actually know what the threat is and if you're strong enough you can confront it. Those two things are almost never true irl.
Doesn't change the fact that Usagi is absolutely right, though, it's just very understandable why people would feel inclined to stay.
If you look at what Usagi has been through in episode 4 and 5, it makes perfect sense considering her backstory that she changed her mind about going back. Love love loved that they added that level of agency for her. The fact that there's nothing like the Queen of Spades game in the manga story is one of the countless things that just makes the show outright better.

Chishiya was never an intelligent or a relaxed character, he was wise, perceptive, and genuinely apathetic, which is such a cool character flaw that i wish people would've understood since it's highlighted since his first episode. (for a good example, none of what he said about guessing Daimon's number in the King of Diamonds game was hard fact, it was complete intuition)
At least this episode makes it extremely clear for you with the amazing comparisons and contrasts between him and Kuzuryu which led to the obvious strategy Chishiya used to win. Especially with how the guy who helped Kuzuryu in his flashback game was Takuma from season one, so the young man that helped him whose kindness he wants to pay forward, is Arisu saving him with the bus.

His set of games weren't even greater or harder than any specific other character, in fact Arisu and Usagi objectively had it worse than him with a King and a Queen, they're just tailor made to his strongest qualities. Which isn't a coincidence either, since in the face card round they can just look at the blimps to pick the game they want.

Got recommended this video and I gotta say, dude on the right needs to get a DNA test or something to see if he's related to Aubrey Plaza. Looks insanely like her.

Season 1 was number cards, season 2 face cards, Im thinking season 3 ace's and season 4 joker

the reason he showed the king of diamonds that he chose 100 is because that is technically cheating so that automatically makes him choose 0 otherwise it wouldn't be fair as he stated to the queen of hearts that he wants his game to be a fair game , so when he saw that he picked 100 the king of diamonds would pick 0 as he saw he had the chance to end things on his own terms rather then someone elses and to make it fair
