You know, what you said about how in DR 1, how Frank rises up to becoming a hero as the game goes on. That was a part of what I liked about Frank originally. He did originally come to Willamete just to cover a story. But as the game went on, it became less and less about him wanting to cover a zombie outbreak, and him wanting to find the truth, and helping the people he came across get to safety.
Vic is like the worst written character of any game I've played in a long while 💀 like the nature of reporters is to REPORT instead of being a well developed character that might've made us question frank's motives in a way she instead just comes off like a moron, ultimately just leaving you with a desire to kill her lmao, which of course the game would never give you the chance to do
honestly this game makes me appreciate dead rising 3 a hell of alot more. DR3 ain't perfect but its still a good game and leagues above DR4 in almost every way
This game might as well have been just a straight reboot of the franchise. Frank regressed entirely from the character development he had in the earlier games. It takes place in Willamette again for seemingly no reason outside of just because thats where DR1 happened. Plus DR3 ended with a cure being developed which is pretty much the ultimate goal of any zombie story. I dont think the story would have been received any better than it was but it would at least be viewed as "That bad attempt at a reboot that everyone ignores" to "The worst possible sequel that could have been made that almost killed the entire franchise".
I really wish this game was so much better because the Christmas Setting deserved a better Dead Rising game to go with it. I know the game is absolutely flawed but I always reinstall it every December to just celebrate the season, what better way to enjoy the holiday season than killing the dead?
Honestly had you made frank west a brand new character who fan boys over frank. Then meets frank and he despises the new character for those negative aspects. Then make character grow like frank did in 1 having frank do what looks like questionable actions make sense when given proper context. Dramatically improves the story. Even if it’s retreading old territory.
So to break it down DR4 problems -frank is not frank -map is rushed and boring -zombies are uninteresting and have a stupid passive attack -stealth -story is just bad -(this one is a personal one) the true ending locked behind a paywall -co-op not in the game -world seems to be a worse DR3 -no pyschopaths I might have left out some things but these are the main ones I'm replayonf DR1 and even doing the savior run but this game feels like people saw DR1 but wanted to make another DR3

I really feel sorry for everybody involved in DR4, they probably did wanna make a good DR game but obviously things took a very bad turn

I guess the game was just programmed to force people to stop playing it after they've given themselves maximum exposure to it :)
