If you listen to their music from when they were in Germany, they copied the American accent when singing the cover songs. Paul sounded Elvis-ish. They were copying what they were hearing on the popular records coming in from America. They were advertised on US TV a great deal in the fall of 1963, before being on the Ed Sullivan Show the first time in Jan. of 1964 -- the teaser was "The British are Coming!" And, we wondered what in the world are they talking about "The British are Coming." Then, when they came for their tour in 1964, many America teens said they sounded American when singing -- so where's the British? There's even a version of Paul singing the Bell's on the Hill recorded at some gig where he sounds American. However, in the British Variety Show where the members of the Royal Family attended, he sounds very British. I'd say that was a smart decision. And on the recorded version of that song, he retained the Britishness.
It won't be Long is such an underrated banger and I find it hilarious that it solos just about every song in their career in terms of sheer volume of "Yeahs!"
Now I know why John Lennon didn't think much of the Sgt Pepper's LP. Not nearly enough yeahs in it for him. Gotta love their consistency otherwise though. Nice work :)
