    You described the pull George had perfectly. I have seen him live twice. Both of those times, it was like he held the audience in the palm of his hand. We hung on every note and word he sang, and it was utterly beautiful. His live voice somehow was even better than the recording. When he was on stage, he left all of himself there, and the audience knew it. By far the best singer-songwriter, producer, and performer I've ever seen.

  • @colinmiles27
    @colinmiles27 Месяц назад +17

    You nailed it with "It's near perfection". Not many vocalists are as consistently note perfect when performing live as George was - in fact, I'd say he's the best I've heard. He has quite an unusual microphone technique, where he partially covers the mic with his thumb, which I presume is to maintain a certain proximity in order to maintain a more consistent (or smooth) tone/volume. But then, his voice overall just seems to tickle the right frequencies - as I've said before, probably - in a similar way (subjectively) to Karen Carpenter. Speaking of which, you should check out 'Trying To Get The Feeling Again' by The Carpenters which wasn't released until 1994 because it had been lost following it's omission from an album. The vocal wasn't even supposed to be the final vocal performance - it's just a 'guide' vocal - you can actually hear Karen turn the lyrics page over at one point. It's their best song IMO - Barry Manilow had a hit with it.

    Around the time this duet was performed, there's a tribute album "Two Rooms" to Elton John and Bernie Taupin's collaboration. George Michael was on that album, but with the different song "Tonight", while "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" was sang by Oleta Adams. The album has some fine and interesting covers, like Kate Bush's reggae style take on "Rocket Man", Sinead O'Connor on "Sacrifice", Wilson Phillips' "Daniel", and Tina Turner on "The Bitch Is Back" (who else? 🤣).

    Love these two great artists, together too! ❤ Great choice! Epic performance…chills! I teared up when Elton started…we may never see another like these two, again.

    Thanks for sharing this one! What a wonderful performance. I hadn't seen it before. I enjoyed GM's portion, but, man Elton just breathes this song. He lives it. I was lucky enough finally to get to see him at the COTA in Austin a few years back.

    I saw this the other way round at an Elton John concert at Wembley in about 1986. He brought George on as a surprise guest. They are both from Watford, my husband used to teach there and we lived there for many years ❤

    OK, when I watch enough of a reactor that I know their "tells" - such as shaking your head "No" when it's really good then changing to nodding your head "Yes", it is time to subscribe. Excellent reaction, subscribed to you! Can't wait to see what's next.

    Elton John’s ‘I Want Love’ is so powerful and the video has Robert Downey Jr before he became Iron Man 😊
