    I said it before and I'll say it again...
    Zoe, you aren't a teacher.... You are a Master!
    I love your classes. You always give the "why" and "so that" for every lesson. I'm not a fashion illustrator nor do I draw anything.
    You're so funny and clear with your instructions. I love watching!!!!
    Thank you for your amazing classes!

    GREAT!!!!! video Zoe. Watching your videos and how it all comes together just makes it seem so easy. I've never drew anything in my life and learning to sketch is something that I've always wanted to learn but, never could stay focused. How did you learn to stay focused as a beginner in sketching fashion figures? Terry Love

      I like mechanical pencils from Pentel. They aren't too expensive and work well. I get different size leads (.5mm and .7mm) and different leads (HB, B, 2B).

    Hey Zoe,
    I purchased the book that you showcase in this video (The Art of Manipulating Fabric). The book is AWESOME, but was wondering what pages you have marked in the video. As a beginner, is there any pages that you would suggest I pay more attention to? LOVE your videos!!!! (Especially the Draw Anything and "It's Practice, not Magic!"

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  6 лет назад

      >>As a beginner, is there any pages that you would suggest I pay more attention to?
      No, because it's a primer for everything. It really depends on the manipulations you're most interested in. I never read it straight through. I would skim it all so you know the basics of what tucks are, what pleats are, and then deep dive into the subjects that interest you the most. Make samples with some muslin. That's really the best way to utilize the book.

    When it comes to landing a entry level designer position for a major label, how important are illustration/sketching skills? What if my patternmaking, draping, sewing and garment construction abilities are on-point but my sketches are very crude and not so aesthetically pleasing? Will it be more difficult for me. ALso, I've been using 9-heads book to supplement your videos. Hopefully it just takes time to develop my illustration skills. thanks

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  8 лет назад +3

      If you want to work for a major label, you have to be at the top of your game in all areas. The bigger the label, the more competition there is for those jobs. None of your work can be crude. Your drawings don't have to be the most gorgeous ever, but your sketches have to communicate your designs clearly. If you're trying to be a designer, fresh ideas, effective, quick sketching, and good flats are key. Understanding construction is important, but that comes second. But if that's what you're good at, maybe product development is where you need to be (tech designers, pattern makers, etc.) They usually make more money than designers anyway.

    • @zoehongteaches

      Depends on the school. The university I taught at didn't require it--I think they preferred industry experience. I have a BFA. Some will require a MA or MFA in fashion or similar.

    Hey Zoe thanks for the lovey video!!
    I have a small doubt!
    If one wanna draw suspenders or any vertical line on bodies, do we need to follow the center point and make curvy lines (like you thought from the waist in first video of this series- wraparound)
    Is it same concept or we need to just follow the position of body and draw?

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  8 лет назад

      Wraparounds are for horizontal lines: stripes, waistbands, and hems mostly. Vertical lines should follow the contours of the body. Suspenders will sit on or near the princess seam line, up and over the breasts, around the curve of the shoulder. Does that make sense?
