Hey dan I’d like to send you some footage of my yesterday. I was riding recklessly and something similar happened. Is there an email or something I can send it to you?
I know I shouldn’t have been doing it but it scared me straight. I won’t be doing it again.
Ernie the Giant Chicken bro it was scary. I hope he sees the video I sent him in ig
Let me sum up the past 100 videos from DanDanTheSafety man: Wear gear. Be Aware. Don't speed. Don't die.
That's thoughtful, thank you! 🤙🏻
@@MrMaucool1 You're welcome , brother. Keep doing God's work. God bless, and God Bless America.
I haven't watched 100 but seems to be the MO. It's all basic defensive driving regardless the number of wheels. I enjoy the videos still. Don't own a moto but am contemplating. I personally am very slow to get pissed and very defensive on 4 wheels. I just don't want to be the statistic.
There's much more to it than just suit up, pay attention and ride slow....
It's an art, if you've watched 100 of DDFM videos then I would think this element would be more like it.
Good thing he also didn't hit road worker, huge fines and automatic jail time..here in Mich for that.
Give the guy props for keeping it upright on that unpaved shoulder. He hit it at 45 and exited at 30. Instantaneous reaction to go right instead of left or try to brake down, which wouldn't have worked. Wonder if he has a lot of dirt experience. On the other hand, he musta been really snoozing before that. His playmate stopped with brisk braking but no drama.
Road work signs immediately should signal you to reduce speed. Always take them seriously. Brake lights will follow regardless of conditions.
Real brown stage. Completely the riders own fault. The more videos I watch the more I realize motorcycles don't kill people, people That aren't smart enough to ride motorcycles kill people.
If he were in brown stage, he would have crashed into his buddy, the stopped cars or grab the brakes on the gravel and fell. Imo he did an excellent job AFTER recognizing the hazard, poor in the scope of speed and signs.
Agreed, This rider ignored multiple cues to prepare for an unexpected stop. And he then endangered road workers and members of the public.
88 mph... Flux Capacitor did not work. Seriously riding beyond his abilities and environment. Glad he came out ok. Ride safe.
I disagree he was outriding his abilities. He downshifted and braked while avoiding traffic and going into the dirt and didn’t dump. He handled a sudden stop in a turn as well as he could have while going admittedly way too fast for an unknown area
It always amazes me how much disregard people have for the possible dangers in a construction zone. Not just for the rider/driver, but for the construction workers and other drivers around you.
People see a currently empty road and forget how fast that can change.
As a retired highway engineer, mostly in road and bridge construction, thank you! I used to think that maybe we need talking signs, seems people can't seem to read orange effing signs! Come on, people! 😢
Like coming around the bend, only to find a 15 ton wheel loader across your path of travel. Friggen Darwin-worthy idiot, flying past three warning signs with complete disregard.
My gosh, the orange flags ahead of time! DIDN'T YOU SEE THE ORANGE FLAGS AHEAD OF TIME? Sheesh!
New street rider here (formerly only dirt). Just wanted to say thanks for making these videos. Taking my first MSF course in early October, but these videos have helped me a lot in thinking through the 'what-if' scenarios on the road.
Yes, Dan's videos are great for new riders and/or returning riders after a long time away from the hobby. Riding at a slower speed gives you time. And having time gives you options if something goes pear shaped.
They had at least 20 seconds to slow down... this is the reason why I quit from railway construction. You do everything you can to keep yourself safe and then there is the ignorant bastard who will not care and kill you regardless...
I went into brown stage watching. Oh my!!!
Always be situation aware!, red flags all over the place.
1 point for not dumping the bike. -2 points for being stupid
To many give kudos for saving it and forget he created the situation to start with.
Quite frankly, he got real lucky.
Shawn Walker I agree. That’s why I took away 2 points for being stupid
I pray whoever reads this becomes successful 🙏🏽
Thank you
again?
Soon I will get my moto licence and while doing the training courses I realized, at least for me, that day dreaming is maybe the biggest threat
Poor decision making up to the construction zone, but you can tell this rider has great reaction skills. That was a small window to navigate. Sounded like he went brown just prior to going wide but brought it back to red.
Thanks for the breakdown Dan! I’m impressed that the rider handled the off roading as well as he did!
I thought he could’ve made it swerving left, he was already leanining for the turn just a little more and then straighten up then brake as opposed to taking the dirt route. and you can see it’s no cars coming but as a rider I understand the quick judgments you have to make, glad he made it
Maybe , on quick glance the parked truck was facing him no way to tell if it’s moving while moving like that . Oncoming lanes are always a coin flip lol . I think he made the right move he was just moving way to quick .
He handled that pretty well, gotta give him credit for not dumping the bike and going straight while in the gravel, but all those signs and he's still going 88... Should have AT LEAST given himself some extra distance. Glad he's not hurt.
I would have loved to heard what the flagman said to him!!!!
Something along along the lines "What is this retard doing!?"
go watch the extended version on my channel and see for yourself
I was riding the River road on the Texas-Mexico border when an oncoming bike gave me the hand-pressing-down sign. It's a narrow twisty road, I slowed curious what was coming up. Around the next curve was a large bull blocking most of the road. He seemed pretty chill so I eased the bike into gear and passed him as nonchalantly as possible. Grateful I had warning!
Idea did a good job not braking off the shoulder
...still should've applied his skills (situation awareness) prior
Pay attention to construction signs. My brothers and sisters die to ppl like this unnecessarily because ppl are being negligent. U see a big ass orange diamond, slow the fuck down.
Dude definitely could have prevented the situation by heeding the warning signs. And, of course avoiding the problem to begin with is the best option. That said, I do have to give this rider props getting through it without eating shit.
Wait till this baby hits 88 mph, you're gonna see some serious shit.
What, is it gonna go back in time?
No, its gonna leave a bloody smear on the road when you crash.
My biggest mistake was not noticing how cold my hands had become and so struggled to tell how much pressure I was using on the brakes. Fortunately it only ended with a wide corner. But I bought some thermal gloves to go underneath and not had that problem since.
He put a lot of people in danger by not paying attention to road signs . I believe guys who ride sport bikes imagine themselves racing in the superbike .
I disagree that there wasn't enough available stopping distance, his friend who was going the same speed was able to stop with room to spare. As I was watching this video in my head I would have gone a little to the left and hit the brakes and stopped like the friend did... going off road is always dangerous. Guy was being reckless but could have stopped in this situation imo
Maybe if he was paying attention he could of stopped, but he wasn't and ended up braking way later than his friend
no all bikes nor riders can brake as equally
well if he used the brakes at that point he was for sure gonna be crashing on his friend, the thing here is speed difference, keep in mind he was way BEHIND his friend and in that specific turn he catches to him, meaning he wasn't going the same speed as him, he was going WAY faster than him on that turn, so yeah, his friend was able to stop, but he going faster had a slower reaction time plus more speed, what he did was super ok to save the situation he was inn, he understood brakes wont save him, so he had to swerve...
@@brohofied2561 I have a feeling from your comment that you don't actually ride motorcycles
@@brohofied2561 he could have stopped easily actually
While I have to say the rider made many mistakes, he handle the dirt and end well.
Orange signs and Skid Marks!! No Clue??
Not a brand new rider, just like watching Dandan 🤙🏾
Same
Did I hear that right? "Oh god, I'm gonna crash"
Both of them made an arse of it, both of them nearly wiped each other out. The only upsides are that they did manage to brake so well... and that the person with the stop sign didn't twat him over the head with it 🤔
The guy in the lead knows how to use the brakes. The guy in the POV should not even think about riding like this until he understands how to use the front brake because I would be willing to bet he only used the rear to slow down. If he engaged in proper emergency braking procedure the moment the cars ahead popped out of the curve, I believe he would have been able to stop comfortably in the space he had left.
I bet that when the flagman let them go this guy took off at 88 miles an hour.
He would gain significant reaction time if he was in lane position 3 vs lane position 2. The earlier you see an obstacle the more time you have to respond to it. If the road conditions permit it, stay wide till you can see the corner straiten out.
Wow there were tons of signs . He lucked out big time .
If you're gonna ride like a fool like that, at least make sure you know how to trail break. If he was trail breaking he would have had a much better time at stopping sooner, as well as paying attention to the signs
I believe this rider brown stage himself during the whole process. DanDanTheFireman has saved many lives with his content. For that, I thank you!
Whew! Nice save though.
I think he was just lucky, his friend made a good job by braking instead of using the same escape path
Great save, went from white to brown pretty fast. Great breakdown Dan, thanks for keeping us safer.
Hopefully if ever have to bail into grass or dirt like this I remember to not slam the brakes brakes and just try to coast a bit while praying lmao
Close call but a great save overall.
You have to admit, that rider handled that move like a fucking boss. He didn't panic, he didn't brake too hard and found a safe(ish) path, not only quick, but safe as well. That is damn well impressive.
Yeah man, that could have easily been WAAAYY worse.
He's very lucky, but you can hear him panick
The dude did panic. He just didn't grab his brake like most would and almost went flying. 100% luck no skill factor here.
It's also equally impressive the amount of stupidity shown by ignoring all the signs there was a construction ahead and needed to slow down.
That could have ended way worse. He kept his head on his shoulders and knew the limits of his brakes on the gravel.
I think the "high skill level" is actually reading the signs. At the first construction sign I wondered why he was giving it more throttle...
Did anyone else hear "oh crap! oh crap! oh crap!" around 1:00?
I've been following your videos for quite a while now and I'm still waiting for a video where your breakdown of mistakes made doesn't start and end with "SLOW THE F**K DOWN!"
Dan Dan
Your channel is great but NOT worth the m0ney to join. There happens to be BETTER free channels. I'm Done.....
Like how nobody mentions the way his buddy left him out to dry.
Love the information you provide tbh. You have a lot of commentary that drives my ADHD crazy, but without it I’d be left with sooooo many questions. The thoroughness is what is keeping me glued each video. Kudos Dan. Keeping my family safe.
In my jurisdiction this action would have resulted in hundreds of dollars in fines, a probable court appearance for dangerous driving and a possible beating from the construction workers for the reckless disregard to their safety. This is why all riders get negatively painted by the same brush by the non-riding public. Unacceptable behaviour.
Rider had very poor braking technique. He also must have scared the crap out of his buddy and was very lucky the other guy didn't take to the right otherwise it'd have been a gruesome pile up. Hope he's learned something from it. Like, how many warning signs would it take to make this guy ease off the gas?
I have the attention span of a squirrel. I’ve done things like this rider did, only in a car. I’m getting older (amazingly) and have really worked to change the way I think while riding and driving. The repetition of these videos and the road strategy videos help this, like covering a brake when I see the broadside of a vehicle near an intersection. Repetition and refinement! I want to flood my brain with good examples to build better habits.
Great information Dan Dan👌👍. Keep the shiny side up Tricky Trev🇦🇺
The dude was just afraid to brake. He needs to practise braking. He took gradual braking too far. That's my 2 cents on this.
What braking? When his friend started braking he was still twisting his throttle. I think he was just not focused.
First comment from a Malaysian Rider fan
stoopid construction site kept the flux capacitor from hitting full charge and sending the rider Back To The Future!
Construcción zone with a flag man and blind curves = slow down. At least he was able to keep it upright on the dirt.
The obviously weren't expecting any hidden driveways, deer, etc. Line of sight is everything on a bike or in a car
This video is a great example of how hard it is to judge the speed of the vehicle in front of you. Rewatch the video and it is almost impossible to see when the rider in front started slowing down. That and accelerating into a construction zone is stupid.
also the guy is a one finger braker, always use your full hand while braking, so he could go into emergency stop, he could easily stop in time to the left.
This is why I had my first crash as a new rider, I want to make a video of me explaining what happened but in spanish. Is it okay for me to use the S.M.A.R.T Rider quote or name for videos? Is that a copyright thing? Greetings from Guatemala! 🇬🇹🤙🏻
Brown stage, BROWN STAGE! Whoo that was close
Unfortunately none of that advice kicks in when you tryin to keep up with your boy....
Brown Stage. AKA Party in my brains but time for 💩in my pants
Hey Dan, when and how you downshift on trail braking????
Should have bin able to stop. Could have fork oil on the front brakes or something.
Assuming the guy has ABS...why not hit the brakes?
Dude flew past 3 orange signs. Common sense would go a long way.
Good he did not applier brakes when he was on the grass or he would have dumped the bike
Colour blind? Didn't see the giant orange signs.
love the haunted house scenario
Even sports car would not have enough room to stop but better chance to stop
Well, I’ve have enjoyed your videos. Just wanted to share, that today I bought MY first bike. 2012 Fat boy Lo. Yes I understand that’s a massive first owned bike. Maybe. It was a bike when I saw, I fell in love. Thank you DanDantheFireman for you videos!
i know a guy that when he just got his A1 license, went abroad to the mountains, on a 390cc ktm Duke (definitely not A1 license bike) and nearly killed himself in an accident. broke alot of bones and had bad injuries...
inexperience and stupidity kills motorcyclists.
Dan Dan has anyone ever told you, you kinda resemble scott ian from anthrax? I was just watching your video labeled "this information should upset you- after the ride 005" and that thought came to my mind and btw what you said about the motorcycle safety industry is so true. Kinda makes me wanna start my own riding school to help open people's minds of the dangers of the road and how to be safe here in Jacksonville because there is a bunch of crazy biker bois out here that need this knowledge I want these men and women to be safe. Thx for spreading your knowledge brotha
Watch out for construction zone signs
Just ignore the men working signs 🤪😂
There is huge value in watching these pov videos and breakdowns because they allow you to experience the incidents vicariously and learn lessons without suffering the consequences. Studies have shown that mental rehearsal of how you would react to various sudden crisis is just as effective in creating mental file folders for your brain to access in the event of a real sudden emergency. When you don't have these files your brain shuffles through your previous experiences searching for what to do, hence your life "flashing before your eyes." This is great stuff to sponge up. Thanks, Dan!
As a motorcycle rider I hate the mountains. But this guys are crazy. He’s lucky to only had went into the gravel.
Why is the flag guy wearing a helmet and riding boots..?
Btw, love ya, DanDanDaMan! Your advice is Fire, man!
Looked like clear lake Cali
Watching this pissed me off. This looks like my neck of the woods and I have an R6 like the one he was about to total. I hope he learned his lesson. But good job on not dumping it on the shoulder.
Those guys just didn’t saw the three hazard signs half a mile before hand. As a leader you have to slow down.
i didnt catch that at 3:10 ! i'm definitely going to be engraving that into my brain. greats vids man thank you keep it up
Love the intro but the flashing lights kind of mess with my eyes 👀
When you watch the clip and go right to the comments cause dis gon b gud!
I'm glad he made it, this could of turned out ugly.
It may be because I wasn’t anticipating it and just shifted to paying attention right when it happened but this is the first time I completely puckered from watching a AAR.
Also please do that video with narration of shifting/throttle/clutch modulation in traffic that would be so CLUTCH and I need it I’d learn a lot faster than learning it myself from trial and error. After riding normally maybe you can force a few errors like bucking or locking the tire at low speed and just narrate your primary control hand movements and then explain why it caused the behavior etc.
Im just here from your kids awesome work on the Doc's live stream. Didn't know you watched video games ;)
Hahaha hey! I love watching the Doc play. I never have time to play myself, so I might as well watch the best.
Thanks Dan.
Soon as you see those signs you should be slowing wayyy down. Bug red flag
