For context, Froot is basically the nightmare scenario for incomprehensible British speech: she's both urban AND Northern. She's speaking a horrifying patois of the universal chav mannerisms that grew out of London, and a specifically Northern regional dialect, with her soft Northern accent stacked on top as a multiplier. It's like an onion, it's got layers.

What Froot is saying is pretty clear to me. I understand a lot of British dialects. What also helps is that I am quite fluent in Cockney Rhyming slang. So if I say to someone if I can have butchers it means I want to see what is going on (Butchers hook - look) it's quite simple really.
I'm an Aussie and our slang is a lot worse (IMHO) so from context I can understand what she said.
I really don't understand rhyming slang - what's the utility of it? "Butcher's hook" is a lot longer than "look." Is there something to it I'm just not getting, or is it meant to make less sense to outsiders?
@@z3iro383 Mostly that last one. You also don't use both words. For example: Have a Butchers (have a look) get me a couple of Britneys (Beers). In the Show QI in the C series there was a great example: "Any Flamenco's given in Pyong will score Barney" try to figure that one out :) (if you can't I will reveal what it is :)
@@z3iro383 IIRC it started out as a kind of code, using rhyming words and phrases to talk about stuff openly without any snitches or cops understanding you (or possibly just outsiders, it's still up for debate). then it became more widespread and thus useless, but it kinda stuck

Your problem was you got people from the wrong part of Britain. That sentence is pretty comprehensible to anyone from the midlands or the north.

@@elgringo1893 if I weren't hearing it with the context I might have been a little thrown off as well, but a good bit of listening comprehension is context clues. Same reason I personally can understand spoken or written German beyond my ability to speak or write it myself, because what I do know allows me to understand other things when it's put together (not without failure and longer processing times though)
