I will and always support physical media discs/cartridges till the day i die. No matter what as long as there's a physical version playable offline from start to finish with updates then I'm fine with it. I like to own my games forever and have physical and not taken away without me knowing thank you very much.
@@exeterfg actually most Nintendo switch games are on the cartridge fully and don’t require an Internet connection most of the time same with PS4 and PS5 discs There’s only select few third-party games that need Internet connection and are not on the cartridge. Do research before you comment next time.
Hey no need to get so aggressive. I’m working on anecdotal evidence and willing to admit I don’t know the exact percentage of games that aren’t on the cart. My point was more so just that it does happen. My understanding is that the main reason a switch game isn’t fully on the cartridge is because there isn’t enough room on one, and the game devs/publisher don’t want to pay for two. If that’s true then the number of switch games not on the cartridge will probably only go up, because game file sizes just keep getting bigger.
I've bought 100+ PS4 games & intend to buy 100+ more on PS5. The day PlayStation stops supporting physical games 📀 I'm done with gaming. I'll stay with my PC for only maybe 3 games per generation. Definitely going to stay retro.
the main issue is that companies like sony and microsoft have full control of the marketplace on their systems and will be able to set prices at whatever they see fit. pc has multiple means to play affordably and has much better sale prices e.g. steam sales. going all digital just gives companies the incentive to upcharge their games more since the only way to get it will be use their consoles marketplace or get it on pc
@@luna3983 Steam sales have been a huge problem for me. My blacklog of games is insane. Also if you want your steam games to be physical just get a bunch of external harddrives. I have 4 microSD cards for my Steamdeck with almost 60 games installed on them. They all work off line and my deck is always put into off line mode and disconnected from wifi fi.
Sony just laid off 200+ people in their physical media department & announced plans to wind down Blu-ray production. I don't see why Xbox is always the focus, despite them doing a significantly better job preserving digital libraries & backwards compatibility than the others.
I still remember "analysts" saying mobile would replace console gaming. Regardless if it ever happens, I'd NOT build a digital library on PS or Xbox, 360 store is already gone. Even Origin and Epic stores are safer.
Unless they could miraculous fix the internet bandwagon to get games running without lags then will that be the day cloud gaming could work but I doubt they would be able to do that. The internet is a jumbo network filled with ads and pop-ups (a.k.a. interruptions) and as we know those ads and pop-ups are the reason why there are lags and latency in the first place. Networks could easily get rid of those ads and pop-ups but they don't want to cause the only real way to generate revenue of any kind online to keep server going was to embrace those ads and pop-ups. That's why websites such as RUclips and Facebook continue to thrive while websites that hardly had any ads and pop-ups at all like GameRanking and GameWinners are dead and gone for good. GameFAQs is lucky it's now own by GameSpot and now had ads cause had it continue running without ads like it did in the 2000s and 2010s, it too would be dead also. Wikipedia is lucky it got donation support for their website but if the donation support someday ends, then they too would also had to turn to ads and pop-ups, once that happens that website too would be a laggy mess.
Physical media is and should never go away because of possible games and other things getting deleted and accessible any more because recently ps5 slim games just got deleted so theres that
unfortunately i dont think they will be around much longer. its sad to see but there isnt much to be done anymore. people tried to warn people about this years ago :/
That's sad and terrifying that Gaming companies and big retailers are treating physical games like garbage for no good reason. God, I hope Nintendo doesn't reject physical games in the future, and I hope that the next-gen Nintendo console isn't the last physical system. That's my three fears about the next-gen Nintendo console, Denuvo/DRM crap, lack of backwards compatibility, and digital only console.
The thing is when a console embrace both physical and digital distribution nowadays digital always had the better sale cause customer would quickly buy that and download it for play immediately. For physical they had to make the disc/cart and put the entire game onto it and then sell it at retailers. Also not every retailer had shelf space for every physical games which is why most devs or companies that still embrace physical does limited physical release so those customers who want a physical copy could at least buy one. Remember back in 1983, the reason why there's a gaming crash was cause of low quality physical games. There are too much of them at retailers and there are more bad games than good games that back then customers just assume every games are bad so they aren't buying thus causing retailers to be unable to get the bad games out of store shelves and with manufacturers also couldn't get more games shipped to retailers cause nobody was ordering for anymore due to no shelf space. Nowadays thanks to digital, not every game gets a physical release saving shelf space for better games like Super Mario Odyssey, God of War, and Forza and if that game is a bad game like those asset flip games on Steam, PSN, Androids, Xbox, and the eShop then those games could immediately be delisted from those digital stores.
I think new laws need to be put in place regarding digital games. Changing the perception of what's actually provided to the consumer. Companies view it as a license to give permission to access the data. As a customer you're not actually receiving anything of value. Just the permission to download from Sony or Microsoft's servers. This needs to change significantly to actually reflect that a product is being sold to a person.
This "rumor" is just a sponsored smear campaign by Microsoft to push their multi trillion weight around to force the industry how they want The only physical media that is actually getting "discontinued" are the user burn discs in Japan only nothing more Remember the "firm" the rumors are coming from have tens of billions in Micro stock, meaning any good pr story they can make up increases their profit share
I believe that physical edition will stay but only for higher price let's say you pay for 70 bucks for a video game right now in the next 3 years will pay $117 for a video game or maybe 200 on disc it's crazy to think about but it's looking like that's the possibility does PS5 and ps6 are still going to do disc but only at higher prices
I would not take any of what this "video game industry analyst" claims seriously considering its investing -Circana- firm outright owns tens of billions in Microsoft stock where any good pr story they spin or even fabricate brings them a bigger profit margin from said investments Sony Corp on the other hand is part of the Blu-Ray Association due to being a lead developer of the technology as such earns royalties from every disc, storage or player with said hardware not something Sony would like to lose by going all digital This is just another misinformed smear campaign so that Microsoft pushes their multi trillion weight to shape the industry how they want to

Xbox will be full digital with game pass. You won't own any of the games. As there won't be a buy option and if there is one it''ll be a limited time thing like 3 or 6 months.

Xbox is not the best on game presentation. The program xbox has is all digitial, which means if they decide, they can shut down all servers, nothing is preserved. Game preservation can only exist if the games are stored on places where these companies do not interfere. Best option is physical media, they can't control it.
