When it says "You sent my firstborn back to me, and put a gun in his dead hand", it's a reference to Blues, who Dr. Light thought would have self-destructed because of a faulty reactor. When Blues appeared again after so long, it literally would be like seeing a dead child rise from the grave from his perspective. I honestly like that touch.
Whenever I hear this song I'm just imagining that at like 2 in the morning, while his 'kids' Rock and Roll are 'asleep'/recharging, Dr. Light is in a dark room in front of his computer recording this entire thing as a message with a video camera that's set up to send to Dr. Wily. He'd hoped he'd get the chance to explain this in a softer way when his son gets up. Unfortunately, as soon as he presses the "send" button, he turns around at the (2:05) mark and sees that his ranting has woken Rock up. He's just... Standing there, thousand-yard-staring at the screen with a look of absolute horror on his face as Dr. Light, realizing his son just saw everything he _really_ didn't want him to see, puts a hand on his shoulder, kneels down to his level and tries to console him. Rock reluctantly agrees, as all of this has also woken up Roll and Rush, who are staring into the room from the hallway with just as much dread as Rock himself has. And so, Rock straps back into that upgrade panel thing from the Megaman 4 intro scene again and dons the armor. Here we go again.
This actually made me realize how hard the events of the megaman games must have been on Dr. Light, especially seeing Protoman alive again and working for Wily. The Megas seem to give a much more in-depth look at each character and their internal struggles.
CyberShinobiX, I'm pretty sure Protoman never worked for Dr. Wily. I always got the impression that he was more of a rogue agent, pissed off at Dr. Light for replacing him with Rock/Mega and essentially abandoning him, but never agreeing, let alone siding with Dr. Wily. If he worked for Wily then he probably wouldn't have saved Megaman as many times as he did. Now, if you're talking about Megaman 5, that's a fake Protoman created by Wily to fool everyone, but the real deal shows up near the end of the game to help you defeat the fake one, but that's the closest thing to Blues working for Wily that ever really happens. Even in the Megas' song about Protoman, I'm Not The Breakman, it gives a lot more of the impression that Protoman isn't siding with Wily. He's just pissed off at Light and is a lot more neutral in the grand scheme of things. That was just what I got out of it all, at least.

That's a common misconception primarily caused by the old cartoon since Protoman does work for Wily in it, plus the fake Protoman from the fifth game didn't help matters.

And he has every right to be. Not only because Wily is a PoS, but if I recall 3's story correctly, Wily tricked Light into letting him help rebuild Gamma for his own ends. Wily already sorta signed his death warrant by sending Blues/Proto Man out like he did, but turning Light's peaceful project into yet another destructive force? I don't think Light would ever actually wish death on someone, but I imagine this series of events tested his mettle...
i think a subtle thing in this is immediately after the line about sending his firstborne back with a gun, is he says "I've sent a bullet with your name" in reference to Megaman, both of his sons have been reduced to weapons in this conflict, and worst, Light was the one to do it to one of them
I had a music video in my head, where Light is singing this, as hes going through his house, Roll following him. When he tells Mega Man that the world would forgive him for taking a life, I imagine as Megaman fades, his armor and face becomes like protomans as Light contemplates if hes just repeating his mistakes. "Am I right to ask this of you?."
As he goes into a room, all the pictures are the Wily in his head laughing at him, as he finally breaks and starts smashing pictures. Just as it reaches the last one, as the song reaches the "I want to watch you..." end, Roll stops him as he realizes that the last picture was of him and his family, Roll, Rock, Rush and what not, and in the end he breaks down.
Holy shit that ending hits hard!

Oh, I agree. This is definitely a song of desperation and anger. It's a very dark turn in my opinion because throughout most incarnations, Dr. Light generally treats Wily as if he's dealing with a toddler who threw one tantrum too many. There's never been a moment where Light just plain throws away his hopeful thoughts and practically command his own surrogate son to commit murder. That kind of dark and hopeless outlook is typically reserved to the Protomen, as far as I can tell.

I know the line is "has finally got the best of me" but I swear, for the first few weeks of listening to this, I thought it was "Has Wily got the best of me?". The fact that it still fits within the song's context proves that these guys are fucking incredible.

Sounds like Light is sick of Wily's shit. I wonder how the story will develop, if the Megas write an album for all seven more times Wily gets free and starts trouble. I remember starting MM9, seeing him be all like "No really, I'll be good!" and just thinking "Bitch, please."
To be fair he did leave all the Roboenza cure at the end of 10.

, a weaker strain is used to tell the body its bad so when the real thing comes, the body immediately jumps to kill it
Can't believe it's been 11 years. The entire History Repeating saga still goes hard.
It seems, from this lyric, that Light feels remorseful because he thought Wily as his friend and failed to stop him, thus causing Blues and Rock (Proto and Mega) to suffer. I love this serious story by Megas. "The Message From Dr. Light" is also great.
Mind you, it was Mega Man's choice to be converted into a fighting robot. And after Mega Man 3, Light has a right to be mad. Wily deliberately conned him into working on a peace-keeping robot which ultimately did the opposite of his goals. Mega Man at this point has already considered whether his choice was right. Also, for a grimmer depiction of Wily, check out the Megas' earlier work with Entertainment System, namely "What Have You Done" based off the Wily 1 theme from the first Mega Man game.

more fucked up when you remember megamans fighting form is based on protomans own gear(if not possibly using some of the same parts) which must already bring up bad memories
In the Archie comics, it shows that Mega Man does feel guilty at first because he feels like he is killing off his own kind. Also, Mega Man X tends to wish there was a more peaceful solution to what he does in the games.

It was a boy, the yellow scarf around his neck billowing ominously in the wind. He was clad in battle armor, blood-red and gleaming, and his right hand ended in a power cannon, a twin to the Mega Buster.

I honest to god think this is one of The Megas's best works. Absolutely phenomenal.
I absolutly love this song. Like of all time. Its a spectatular album, I love how all the albums have a theme. Like Megatainment was kinda like "F yeah, we're robots standing up to the humans." Get equiped was like "This is all out war, and we will win!" History Repeating: Blue is dark like "We are going to die. Megaman will kill us..but still we fight"

I know that this is about Light, but this really reminds me of Wily releasing Zero to kill everyone in the end. Sick of losing, sick of living, bloodthirsty and tired. All he wants is to watch everyone die at the hands of his robot, including himself.
That’s interesting because ya he did make zero using specs that were based off both mega man and bass but he also thought his creation would change the world instead it changed how x viewed the world
I think there's definitely ground for a (bizarrely considering how dark this already is) dark reprise to this song in that idea. Wily, knowing his time is up and he only has one more shot at finally managing to win his endless war.. and also that his method might well end the world. Because the thing that stuck out to me about the Maverick Virus was that for his plan to work, Zero had to lose to X. The man was so beaten down (and he should be!) by endless defeats that his 'victory' plan is for his greatest creation, his masterpiece, to be destroyed and thus take his enemies masterpiece down with it. Wily has to know he's not going to be there to see the win, even if Zero wins, so the parallels spring up immediately.

I wouldn't that say your position is wrong but rather misguided. This man is clearly hurt and would like an eye for an eye, so to speak. He therefore appeals to to his "son" to do this in his stead, since he cannot do it himself. It's not that his former friend is lost to him; it's that he ask this burden of his created son.
That's basically my reading of this. Light is officially done with idealism. If we take the song literally, he dispatched Megaman with a kill order for Wily. It's an interesting parallel in title and meaning between 'I Want To Be The One' with Megaman's clear desire to be the hero, '(I Want to be The One) To Watch You Die' with Light ordering Wily's death and the words we hear form Protoman in 'Melody From the Past' concerning wanting to be the one to be the hero and Light's son.
I would surmise that it's only because of Protoman's intervention that Wily survives if indeed he does. It's not hard for me to imagine Megaman standing there struggling with pulling the trigger to execute Wily and Protoman coming in to pull Wily out of the collapsing castle, sparing Megaman from having to do it.
That same idea takes place in MegMan 7. Bass essentially saves Wily from MegaMan, even though old Mega wasn't supposed to be able to hurt a human.
MetPhD Personally I take it as headcannon that the incident you mentioned is what started Light on making what would become X. That question of 'Do they truly have free will?' and Light deciding that he had to be sure, but also sure that this new creation wouldn't turn on him. (Bad memory from Gamma anyone?) combine that with the whole 'Robenza' incident for an obsessively perfect anti-virus program (probably built on the energy of that space robot he helped repair) and the long wars with Wily for both the inclusion of a weapon and the armor capsule program/facility. That all follows nicely in my head at least.
Well, that and the possibility that Dr. Cossack or his work was the cause of the disaster that ended the old era)
I marginally disagree. We hear a LOT of emotion in the delivery of this, and there are just as many ways of interpreting. The image I get in my head on repeated listens is of a man in torment. There's a healthy bit of righteous anger in the first verse -second chorus, but that begins to melt into reflection an sorrow going into the bridge and final choruses. He acknowledges that what he's asking is WRONG, but this man of peace can see no other way out of the conflict anymore. The pain of Wily continuing to turn his creations, his children, into monsters finally wore him down to an emotional breaking point where he was able to order death rather than detainment. In doing so he knows that he has asked for something he can never take back, and the realization pains him after the anger washes away and all he is left with is sorrow.
I love how this is the perfect book end between I want to be the one being premised on justice and goodness and this one being just purely about vengeance.
I really love this. I think it's my favorite in the album. At the beginning when "It had to end like this, I finally know" is sung the emotion is absolutely perfect.

The megas songs, espically the third one, would make a killer rock opera if put to screen.
Combine this with the Protomen's two Acts, this would make the sickest Megaman story ever. Period.

Put every song into it and over the course of the story have Light slowly let go of his morals to deal with Wily
@@TheSupaCoopaGaming you could probably pull this off with animations following the unspoken narration from the megas albums, some of the comics for storyboarding out a lot of the megas songs (like scene that quoted the message from doctor light) and sequencer + vocaloid covers of both bands songs with minor tweaks to the lyrics to make their styles and takes on the canon cohesive enough to fit together.
Would be tedious as hell but done that way it wouldn't take an unreasonable amount of musical talent, just a solid animator

The sheer amount of AWESOME contained within this album had me listening to it over and over and over. Thank you, Megas, you magnificent bastards you.

The explosion tore through the lab like an earthquake, sending both Dr. Light and Rock sprawling to the ground.
The doctor blinked in a stunned daze, wincing as he reached up to touch his temple, felt the warmth running down the side of his face. He coughed as the dust started to settle; Mega Man was already back to his feet, his arm cannon leveled at the new, ragged hole in the laboratory wall.
It took around 4-5 more games before they tried to kill him...

I listened to History Repeating: Red before Blue, and at first I didn't understand why did Dr Light, despite being a pacifist, asks Mega Man to kill Wily. Now I get it, he made that decision during this song.

I love the way you guys take a song that sounds weird and not very serious, and add depth and feeling to it.
Imagine being Light in this for a minute. You want to build robots to save the world. Wily wants to fuckin rule it. All you wanted as Light was just to see things be better for everyone. There was no reason to fight, or even have war if we let machines work for, or in the case of their sentience, work *alongside* mankind. Wily wants to fuckin burn everything and take it all over just for his ego. His firstborn son gets gaslit into not just wanting to fight against Light and Rock, but gaslit also into just wanting to *die.* Wily fills Blues' head with so much bullshit that all Blues wants now is to see Light pay for "replacing" him, when all Light wants is Blues back, and all Rock wants is peace and a family.
Light's not perfect, and he's not even in the right fully with what he's asking of his sons, or of what he and Wily unleashed on the world, but he's just trying to make things right. He doesn't want to be the Father of Death, after all.

You know, since Mega Man X also begins on the SNES during the same general era of video games, I always thought that maybe X actually was Rock, who became so willful and self-deterministic and well, he had evolved beyond the constraints Dr. Light thought would always be there. Rock was no longer under his control, he was a gun without a safety, and that changed the whole A.I. ballgame. The world's first MAVERICK, basically. Even the evil Wily-bots or the rebellious Blues could only kill humans when following orders (or when they were loosely programmed. Looking at you, Gamma!) Breaking his own constraints like they were nothing and shaking Light's understanding of robotic programming to its core. This is dangerous. He needs time to diagnose how this happened and how to prevent it.
But, he realizes that the future cannot be stopped. Mega Man, and all of robotkind, have a destiny. A future that only they can build. Lives only they can live. And he's too old to finish the work that needs to be done. His options: dismantling his son in an attempt to put the genie back in the bottle, or, sealing him away for 30 years of automated diagnostic morality tests in the hopes that once reactivated, X can balance endless agency with ethical responsibility without his guidance. That he, and all those built based on him, will be ready for freakin' adulthood.
Since we are talking about Mega Man 7 AND this album, its worth pointing out the dichotomy between the two. In History Repeating, Light loses patience with being a nice guy, and in 7, Mega Man tries to shoot Wily instead of taking him to jail for the umpteenth time. It makes sense, narratively speaking, to do one or the other. For one person to stick to their ideals and the other to shock the former by being driven to heights he can't even match.

If I'm getting this right ( har har) This is Dr. Light "talking" to Dr Wily. He has given up hope for him and is just wanting Wily's madness to end in no other way but Wily's death. This also brings back a haunting image of the ending of 3, I can't wait till they do the Final Boss music.
He's the guy who made the Mega Man fan film. You can look it up. It's on RUclips, and it's nice to see how much effort went into it, even if it isn't that great.
This sounds like something the Protomen would make. Then again, there are already lots of similarities between them.
Megas raise some great points about AIs, about how human flaws could carry over into manmade life forms like sentient machines and just what that could mean. Also these are some wonderful songs jus' sayin'.

Yeah, sorry. I got part of the real version of the story mixed up with the Edie Lebron version. Also, even if I was right, that wouldn't throw out the X series. It would just me X was the first stable free willed robot. What's "I'm Not the Break Man?" I thought I was aware of all the Mega's songs, but I've never heard of it.
But... but... this song had depth and feeling... It brought a sense of hopelessness and despair, yet somehow a glint of victory that would emerge in the near future. It was a feeling that you've fought so hard, with no end in sight, yet you continue to struggle on in hopes that it will all be over soon. It was a perfect blend of tearing you down with all you've gone through, yet still knowing the end is somewhere ahead, giving you motivation to push onward. But I agree, they did add to that LOL

Even worse is Protoman wasn't even reprogrammed by Wily. Protoman just hates him for replacing him with Mega Man. And considering Wily Is just about to unleash Gamma, the robot he just built to keep world peace and he has to send mega man his only child that doesn't hate him to war and help him do it really adds meaning to: The Failing Dream.

How the Hell did you guys manage to surpase my expectations? I mean I woke up and suddenly ther it is, coming out of the blue, something for what Ive waited since 3 years. And goood is it good. Cant wait for red. Youve made a good decision leaving "Fly on a dog" out of blue, since it gets me super excited for the second half.
That tends to be the pattern. Read any history book and you will find men suffering and dying to stop a madman. (specifically referring to Hitler, but there are options scattered in history.) Similarly, look at any comic book or movie. The hero never WANTS to do what he is doing. He does it for the good of someone(can include himself)/something he loves.
Yeah, the fact that Light would be so angry as to ask Mega Man to flat out kill Wily is a hell of a dark turn. If I didn't know any better I'd say the Megas are taking a cue from the Protomen on just being dark and morbid.
But most ominous of all was the black, mirrored visor over his eyes that may have hid the boy's face, but could do nothing to mask the rage simmering just beneath the surface.

If you think about it, the cause of the rest of the series is probably the death of Quint (y’know, that future Megaman bot). The present Megaman kills his future self, thus meaning no Megaman after that, so Dr. Light makes X, then setting everything else forward. It’s actually kinda sad, isn’t it? I may have missed a couple things, but I think you all get the idea.
x was planned to originally be the main villain of megaman zero instead of copy x but it was changed due to megaman x6 continuing from tthe good ending of x5 where the bad ending was supposed to be cannon with x going evil

"Continue" is likely after Proto Man and Mega Man fight. Mega Man is badly damaged and laments that he wishes Mega Man could stop, but knows full well that even if he had that choice, he'd still fight.

No, the Masters from 6 were participants in the World Robotics Tournament. Wily (in his persona as Mr. X) simply stole them for his own purposes and reprogrammed them. The Masters from 10 were under the influence of the proto-Maverick virus and only reprogrammed as such to work for Wily. Likely, the DWN designation is because they fell into Wily's hands by the end of the game just like Cossack's machines (the Masters from 9 retain DLN because they return to the care of Light in the credits.)

No; the Robot Masters in Megaman 2, 5, 7, and 8 were solely built by Wily. There could be debate about 3 even though they are credited to Wily. 4 was built solely by Cossack, though Wily clearly "bought" them. There are no clear creators to the robots in 6, the robots for 9 were Light's creations, and 10 is very ambiguous.
Don't forget Bass and Treble, as well.

I feel like X and Zero's Programming can actually alter from past experiences, they can learn to be different and make choices on their own on a level surpassing the robot masters. Mega Man fights evil because he was programmed to be good, X chose to be good.

I bought and read them from an ios app. They are not exactly plot heavy but they do go through the physical and emotional troubles of mega man.I would really recommend them to a fan. I also totally agree with the X thing.
