The story of the song "Karagym-ay" / "My dear". Lyrics written by Sariev Shomishbay. Music written by Duysekeev Kenes. Poet Sariev dedicates these poems to his daughter, who is getting married. In the poems, the poet conveys his feelings about how the life of his daughter will turn out with her chosen one. Father shares thoughts on the meaning of life with his daughter. In his opinion, the main meaning of life is Love. Without love, life is empty. The poet asked a friend, composer Duisekeev, to write music for his poems. The composer remembered his only sister who died when she was 19 years old. She didn't get married. That's why the song also feels the pinching sadness of the failed love.
/// Dimash performed the song "Karagym-ay" on April 9, 2016 at a concert dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the composer Kenes Duisekeev. The composer was surprised by how Dimash was able to understand and convey the deep meaning of the song, despite his young age (Dimasha was 21 at the time.). After the performance of the song, the composer applauded Dimasha with the words BRAVO!!!".
/// Composer Kenes Duysekeev was Dimasha's teacher at the university. He died on July 9, 2020 from Covid-19.

Dimash dedicated this song to his teacher, the author of this song, who recently died of covid. Dimash took the death of his teacher very hard. And the song is about a father who sees off his beloved daughter in marriage to someone else's family. Sadness, grief, father's anxiety for his daughter and the grief of losing a teacher sounded in Dimash's voice with pain and suffering.

Dimash first performed this song in March 2016.
The music composer, Kenes Duisekeev, a beloved Teacher/Mentor of Dimash, recently passed away due to the pandemic. This was very emotional for Dimash, and you feel that with his performance at this 60th Anniversary of the QazaqConcert.
    The song creation history:
Approximately 25 years ago, the Kazakh poet Shomishpay Sariev wrote the lyrics of the song "Karagim-ai". He dedicated the song to his daughter, who was getting married. The father puts his feelings into the text, his worry, how the life of the daughter with her groom will be formed, what awaits her ahead. Shares with daughter about the meaning of life. The poet argues that the most important meaning of life is Love. Life lived without love is empty. The poet asks: "All life lived without love is equivalent to one day lived in love?" It is always sad to leave home and cross the threshold of of someone else’s house. That is why a bit sad moment to a daughter too. After all, the tears of the girl are not from grief, but only regret when parting with the native village, relatives.
Poet asked his friend the famous Kazakh composer Kenes Duisekeev to write music. The composer during writing the music to the song, recalls his only sister, who did not have time to get married and died at the age of 19. He dreamed what a father would have felt if she would have married.
Therefore, the song turned out not only about the poet’s daughter, who is getting married, but about the composer’s sister, who did not live to see her wedding. Therefore, the song feels sorrow, sadness of failed love.
Dimash originally sang "Karagym-ai" at a concert dedicated to the 70th Birthday anniversary of Kenes Duisekeev (Music composer) on 26th March, 2016. The composer really enjoyed the performance of Dimash and applauded with the words "Bravo !!!"

4 years ago Dimash also sang this song in a magical way. But it was a completely different time, a different Dimash, a different life experience. The author of this song and mentor of Dimash (Kenes Duisenkeev) was still alive. This pandemic changed the fate of people, cut someone's life, influenced the work of artists ...
Here's a performance from 2016 (there is a translation of the lyrics here):

From Dimash, it was the most beautiful I’ve heard so far. I have heard several performances in the past in which he presented the full repertoire of his sound technique. I'm bored. Regardless of the song, I knew the line.
This song was not about that. His sound technique showed a narrow band, but filled to the brim with emotion. I listened to the original afterwards. Headphones off, speaker on. An entire family listened in shock. Wonderful.

The song was written by Kenes Duisekeev for his father and sister. It's a love song. His father died when Duisekeev was 5, and shortly thereafter his only sister died at age 19. As an adult he felt his faher, had he lived, would have sung at this daughter's wedding, so he wrote this song as a father-daughter wedding song. On Duisekeev's 70th [birthday?], Dimash told him he would love to sing that song at his celebration. Hesitant at first, Duisekeev told Dimash to sing it in rehearsal and then they would decide. Afterwards, he was so pleased with Dimash's interpretation of the song, he hugged and thanked him. He said he was amazed by how Dimash could understand the son'gs message despite being so young. Dimash sang the song for Kenes Duisekeev in 2016 at the music festival founded by Duisekeev. Kenes Duisekeev July of 2020, age 74. This performance of the song was performed at the 60th anniversary of “Qazaqconcert”, October 17, 2020, and was dedicated to Kenes Duisekeev.

Thanks indeed for this reaction video a piece of music sung by Dimash and for your great service to us. Thanks, Ester Rabi, Philippines, South East Asia

It must have been tough for Dimash to sing this song. You can feel his pain and grieving in his voice and performance. I will tag you in some posts in the multicultural club referring to this song and teacher. Btw in the interview on Dimash‘s RUclips channel he is talking about him.

This performance of Dimash and his previous performances of "Karagymai" carry two different messages. If in the song sounded at concerts we heard the father's tender love and anxiety for his daughter, then here we hear incredible pain and bitterness of irreplaceable loss. Here the song sounded like a requiem. It would seem the same song, the same words, but the emotions, the invisible energy of the performance accurately convey the mood of the Artist. And this is the incredible gift of Dimash. Blessed memory Kenes aha.

    The song creation history:
Approximately 25 years ago, the kazakh poet Shomishpay Sariev wrote the lyrics of the song “Karagim-ai”.
Credit and thank you to Luena Autumn (Laura R) for the song creation history.

Thank you Wolf. This is a tribute to the composer and Dimash's teacher who recently passed from Covid-19. The title means 'apple of my eye' and was written for his sister who has passed away. Dimash sang it for him when Dimash was 17 (I think) and he was so pleased, and now Dimash is singing it for him again. There is a video of the 1st time Dimash sang this & it has subtitles - but I can't find it. This is so beautiful and emotional and heartfelt.

What I love the most about Dimash (and Angelina too) is his (her) commitment to love at all costs, his (her) awesome generosity, his (her) deep concern for the neglected and the poor, especially among children, and theinnocence and purety of his (her) soul.
His (her) radiant spirit makes him (her) to be an inspiring role model for people of all ages.
As for the inherent value of his (her) music, I can describe it as preeminently therapeutic.
Most Angels known to me should become Dears for their own betterment.

The composer of this song (his picture is in the background) was a dear friend and mentor to Dimash, and he passed away from Covid-19 just this last summer. Dimash pays homage to him with this performance. He had already sung this song when he was younger, but this here, is a completely different arrangement with a much more mature Dimash singing it. He doesn't have to "perform" his emotions - he is truly feeling them. He lost a close friend and mentor to Covid.

Yes Dimash is distraught, he sings this in memory of his friend; teacher;Professor, who composed the music to this poem and asked Dimash to sing it after his death. He died thru covid. Dimash sang it around 2016, having got the composer's permission, who insisted that he heard Dumash's version as he was not sure such a young person could get the tune depth of meaning. After hearing Dimash sing, he was left with no doubt and recognised Dimash's gift.
So sad, but amazing that he was able to perform after such a loss.

Thank you for your honest and heartfelt reaction. The emotion here was on a whole other level. Beautiful and deeply moving performance. I think a lot of people have commented with the background story of the song. The emotion from the meaning of the song and on top of it that the fact that Dimash is paying tribute to his teacher who recently passed away is overwhelming. You know where you listened to this song before? You actually made a video reacting to Rassul Usmanov singing it! (Link to the video if you're not sure which one it was: ruclips.net/video/NhDFEDvOsQs/видео.html). You might've also heard it before from Dimash, since he sang it before.

    Qaraǵym-aı/Apple of my eye
    Apple of my eye
The beauty should be in this way
It lands to a head without wishing
    People were visitors in life
    This world was actually short
    Apple of my eye
    Gazelles were gushing like this
Who can block you in your way?
    Why is this heart prouding?
To whom will this fate add you?
    Apple of my eye
You looked at by breaking and falling to pieces
How beautiful your pupils which are looking are!
    Apple of my eye
This life was passing by this way
If you don't love, this world was in vain
If you stack all your life as pages,
Is it equal to one of your days you loved?
    Apple of my eye
You looked at by breaking and falling to pieces
How beautiful your pupils which are looking are!
    Apple of my eye
You looked at by breaking and falling to pieces
How beautiful your pupils which are looking are!

You are right. It is one of his teachers, his prof of composition from the university, where Dimash made his masters degree, Kenes Duisekeev, who passed away due to Covid19. Kenes was one of the most famous composers of our days in Kasachstan. Also the last mv of Dimash Qairan Elim was made under the impressions of the consequences of the spread of covid and the death of his loved ones...
Dimash sings one of the songs of his teacher in memory of him. But he expresses his own feelings. The feelings of a young man, who is very sad, that he has lost some of his loved ones. The main message of this song was that OUR life without love is WORTHLESS. And also in the song there are words, that people only guests in this world and life is short. And this young man begins to learn this regularity of life, that people only for short time in this world... he is very sad... but he is strong...

It almost looks like Dimash is looking for people, and his teacher, Mr. Kenes to be in the seats... But they're not there... So he closes his eyes and goes to a place where his wishes come true. A place where nobody he loves is dead, where an ugly virus didn't hit the world, where the seats are full, where his Dears give him flowers, where everything is ok. But then he opens his eyes and reality hits him right in his core... And all that ache comes through his voice. It's kinda impossible not to be in tears, not only for Dimash and the meaning of Qaragym ai, but for all the people in the world who are missing their loved ones right now.
