A massive bag of sniff, I had to rewind back 3x haha
Hahaha.... Cheers for watching.... 3 x lol
That was a calm and peaceful start that turned into a wild ride. I'm glad you two held out until the end.
Cheers. That weather came out of nowhere.
Your collaborations with Thom are excellent... Hopefully there are many more to come. 👍
I hope so, too. He can be my chef. Atb and thanks for watching!
I think this is a trip you will remember for a long, long time.
I think you're right , George
Proper wild camping.that’s what brings us here.top job
Haha! It certainly was a blast lol

Very entertaining guys, helluva night but the editing jumping between you was genius ! Loved it. ATB Andrew
Cheers, Andrew. Glad that you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
Excellent follow on vid, love the food and windy night commentary. Looking forward to more collaborations
Thanks. Loved the food... can do without the wind in future though! Cheers for watching!
Nath don't know what he's missing, your eyes while sat in the car .. lol. yet another great watch.
Yep - I bet that if Nath watched this video he felt he had made the right decision! lol. Thanks for watching!
my first experience of camping on Dartmoor was in a 2 man army canvas pup tent with 3 of us in it. not as bad as you experienced but even more miserable. The tents all leaked and our army sleeping bags all got soaked.Maybe that's why it took me over 40 years before I bought a tent and went out on my own. Nice camp and a good character building exercise.
Peter Smith there’s nothing more misery making than when your gear is wet
@@OffTheBeatenPot Have you ever been married ??????
Peter Smith hahaha. No. It seems like quite a noisy past time.
@@petersmithm9 hahaha...
The amount of shocking weather that I have been out camping in its a wonder that I go back, but like they say it's soon forgotten. Besides, it keeps me out the house, heh, Peter lol.
Holy smokes.... 😳 That has to have been the worst night you have had on Dartmoor as of yet!!! That wildcamp turned out to be Sunup or Nothing... Bet Nathe is glad he missed that one... Kudos gents for making it through.... 👍👍
Sunup or nothing! Love it
Yea it was a long night but surprisingly enjoyable. May not have been so good had the rain held up when we were packing up. We stayed dry at least. Thanks for watching, Max.
😁👌
Certainly interesting... Perhaps that night will become a Dartmoor legend... 😀
It just seemed to fit... 👍😎👌
Quality, great watch thanks, jotted down those ingredients too👍
Great stuff, Scott. You won't be disappointed. Twas a tasty curry. Thanks for watching!
Feel free to subscribe (if you haven’t already) as I’ll be posting the video with ingredients and full method soon.
If you can’t be arsed to wait. I can give you the ingredients.
Already a subscriber! Roast dinner my favourite video so far.....keep at it👍
ScottE you beauty!! I’ll find my little recipe book and get you the amounts.
Don’t be afraid to make t up as you go though!
@@norfolkyeti mine too. I was amazed at that!
We were out in the same weekend at the foot of Tryfan. I thought the tent would collapse in the night. Not a moment's sleep. Thank God I put large rocks on each of the loops/lines. The vango tempest certainly lived up to its name. All part of the experience hey!
Yea it was a ferocious night. Glad you survived the mighty Tryfan. Thanks for watching!
OMG ! what a night, that wind was brutal, loving the cooking, Hope you can get a return on that tent Thom, and perhaps something extra as well ;-) ATB guys, Excellent viewing, xx
Thanks very much. Glaf that you enjoyed the video. Was a night to remember. Thom has managed to get a couple of new poles sent already so great turn around from MSR. Thanks for watching!
MsOddSox sox I got great service from msr. I’m scared to ask what ‘something extra’ you’re on about.
A Hilleberrg is in order here. In this video we see the limits of $200.00 tents.
Actually, after this, I examined the cloud up 2, it was fine, and I found that the addition a single guy line attached to the rear window made all the difference in string winds, which I have tried and tested numerous times since. And my most recent video sees me test out the cloud peak in 50/60mph winds, and it stood up well. However, if someone was to fork out £1000 for me I would happily give a hilleberg a test.
@@SummitOrNothingI'm impressed that you stuck with the tent after that. I assumed you two had both tents fully guyed- out and that's how they ended up. I appreciate how you fully test your gear. I'll watch that video you just mentioned. It's impossible to see the same tent come out better. Good video. Thanks.
Excellent collaboration - humour, rain, and what looked like a great curry - great!
It was an awesome curry actually. Glad you enjoyed our misery haha. Thanks for watching!
Great vid again Trev. I bet Nath is watching that and feeling gutted that he missed out on that trip haha . NOT.
I'm with Tom on the Trangia gear. There a great bit of kit.
Cheers Jonathon. Yea I bet he was gutted haha... just his kind of weather. And Yep, I am sold in trangia cooking now. Amazing! Thanks for watching!
Storm Diane with my Banshee 200 took a pounding back in November. Those tents are rated to 55 mph. Good on you, hanging on and weathering the storm. Really tests your metal and mind!
I think my mind broke my mettle that night.
In the 4yrs of owning my Banshee, I've replaced the main pole and both angle joints. I pushed it well past the limit in 65mph winds. But that MSR tent pole, should've withstanded the wind better!
It certainly was a test. Glad to have survived that one... now bring on the next. Thanks for watching!
OMG...what a night! Great video and excellent editing. Can't wait to watch your assessment of the Naturehike Cloud Up 2. I wonder what Nath would have thought / said about the night had he been there in his tarp. LOL I hope you collaborate more with Thom.
Cheers Ken - it certainly was a night to remember - glad that you enjoyed the video. And yeah, it was great getting to know Thom, I'm sure that theres more to come from us both in the future. All the best!
Looks like a good time to me and a true test on the gear
Hell yeah. That was a real test and a looooong night. Thanks for watching!
I've just stumbled across this channel looking for tent reviews. That was epic! Well done guys. Brilliant content and editing.
Thanks very much. Yeah we have done some pretty extensive field testing for our tents, and will continue to do so. Thanks for watching!
Great video Trev ... and wow that was some crazy weather you had there.... actually the little naturehike didn't fair too bad really... didn't look like any permanent damage whereas the MSR took a beating ... and you didn't get soaked so that was a bonus... pity about the pad did you ever find where it was leaking? It was certainly a night of nights but great entertainment for all us not going through it ... 🤣😂🤣😂
Hi Dave. Yea that wind cane as a bit of a surprise, but added layers to the video, heh? I haven't had a chance to look at the mat yet for the puncture, but stay tuned as I have just made a little vid assessing the damage to the naturehike tent. Thanks for watching, all the best.
Hardcore, once more!
Yeah, this was certainly one to remember
Love the videos buddy bag of sniff had me creasing.
Hi. LIKE. LIKE. COOKING. CAMPING.
That was some rough weather. Reminded me of Sittaford Tor with my brother, tent blew flat on us too. I still slept through it, brother was not impressed reckoned i snored louder than the wind and rain.
Haha!! Now that's some loud snoring, lol. Was an adventure for sure... but what doesn't kill us makes us stronger, eh! Thanks for watching!
Great vid guys, tbh, I wouldn’t be too hard on the tent. If it was reckoned to be in the 40-50mph range, given the exposed site, fully geodesic tents or Hilleberg type tents with Kerlon flysheets are really the way to go. There is a limit to how much crap a 3 season tent can take and those are pretty big gust speeds 💨💨💨💨
Yeah, I managed to get my Naturehike out again to check over and you wouldn't know it had taken a beating. If we'd have been expecting the winds would probably have packed the Banshee. Thanks for watching, Del!
I think I met the extremes for the price point. I never intended on using it in such winds. But their customer service was amazing and I was dry and warm and FELT SAFE all night. I do rate this tent. Especially after the hindsight of sleep
Summit Or Nothing . I think it would be just wiser to just find the most sheltered area for the camp, being out of the wind just a little really helps the tents. Or at least something immovable to tie it to. 🤣🤣🤣
Been there done that. 😢
@@andrewmoon1898 Yep, there is that. We were on the windy side of a bloody great hill 😂😂😂
Great vid Trev and a good laugh 🤣 Definitely a tale of two halves mate. The grub looked spot on and God that weather did get brutal bud 😬. Thanks for sharing Trev. Atb Sconja 👍
Cheers Sconja. Survived to tell the tale though eh! Thanks for watching!
Be prepared take a bottle with wide mouth ...lol....just don't get bottles mixed up.
I don't think they make bottles wide enoughhahaha.
Your gear took a bit of a beating but you came out the other side , nice one guys that's what its all about atb Dave..
Yea Dave. We took a beating but still had a great time. Thanks for watching!
cant remember what brought me here to watch your video.... but im glad i did
I'm glad you did too - thanks for watching!
Summit or nothing tshirt ordered.!Doing Ben Nevis nxt month I'll make sure I get a photo
Fantastic! Thanks Jane. Will get the order processing and hope to get it to you in good time. Thanks for your support!
I'm of the opinion that the MSR tent held up fine until he left the doors open in that raging wind and walked away, a tents structure is with all the doors zipped closed, the other tent failed with all the doors zipped so this is a product failure whereas the MSR tent failure was operator error by leaving it open to the wind,
Totally agree. The rules are the rules with structural integrity of tents, yet we’re quick to say when we break them … the tents are no good. I’ve had this tent in higher winds and it’s been fantastic.
The nature hike didn’t fail. Side blew in when the guy loosened, but apart from that, it was dried out and repitched many times. A great tent
Interesting to see what happen with two not properly guylined open doors tents in the wind. Did you wanted to brake them?
Amazing how few of the comment noted that.
The elixir collapsed because the door was as wide opened towards the wind. What a waste
Wow , this has changed. Looking very campy informative. The cooking bit is a superb idea and fuck me did that nature hike take a battering. Loved this one trev..
Sorry don, missed this comment. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching!
Thank goodness. After all of your recent professionalism, you have no idea how reassuring it is to see your tent fall apart. 😂 A good story for the Grandchildren!
Haha.... Yea. Everyone loves to see us suffer lol. Definitely one to remember. Cheers for watching, Andrew.
The bonus was your sleeping mat failing. 😂
@@andrewross4468 you cruel b****** 😂😂
Ps we would definitely be up for a miserable night..bring it on !
thanks for the vid..youve helped me decide.. after week on iceland im being super carful about winds when it comes to tents.. i wanted to buy Naturehike tent but it seemed like giant sail and based on this video, it is.. Im buying Ferrino sling.. the tunnel style tents or tents with lower profile are better for this.. less space but for one person, ideal.
Lol :-D all normal then Trev :-D nice one guys , disappointed with the MSR :-(
Me too. BUT I was dry and until the moment we went to un pitch it it was banging. Wary about using it again but I have to give it a go!
Think we'd think twice before camping in that sort of weather again. Well.... I've said that before
Now that looked fun, glad it was you two rather than me. Regarding the MSR tent poles, if you look on RUclips and check online at the reviews you will see the Elixir for some reason does have weak poles, so its a common issue, yes the winds were crazy but even so for the money the tents cost you would expect better. Shame you didn't cook a full English on the trangia whilst the gales were blowing ha ha, better still damn why wasn't Nath in that tarp, my god you can imagine the moaning, cursing and anger that would have gone on lol. Summit Or Nothing Tours, come sleet, snow, hail or storm force winds we guarantee you a good soaking, getting lost, and no sleep, at no extra cost. Go out on your adventure as a man, come back as a wreck. Atb Bill.
Hahaha.... I think you've done all the marketing for me there, Bill 😂😂. Yea that was a shame about the MSR, but they have sent out replacements and spares for free so good on them. I reckon that if Nath watched this video then he would have definitely decided that he'd done the right thing lol. Thanks for watching! Atb!
Great video guys, what a night, a real test of endurance for man and gear. Good stuff 👍
It certainly was one to remember. Thanks for watching!
Brill vid lads well done for sticking it out...I would of fucked off home when you did and left the tents behind for sure...They never stood the test ...
If I had known those winds were due, I would have took the Banshee, the Naturehike didnt have much of a chance in all that wind. But I was amazed to see that there was no damage to it aftewards (check out his video I posted up this week - assessing the damage! - ruclips.net/video/PNbl1M-3xkw/видео.html ) Thanks for watching!
Leave no trace , not leave tent behind!
Great vid and a great new team. I'm still laughing over here in the USA
Alan Siders you’re not the first in America to laugh at my expense. Won’t be the last!
Thanks Alan. Cheers for watching us Brits! Glad you found joy in our misery haha...
cracking vid trev .but dont be dissapointed pal .theirs no shame in bailing out and coming home .thats called being sensible and safe . you both had 3 season tents . in weather like that you need a 4 season and lots of pegging .just look back and think what fun and it was lol .it just goes to show how the weather can change on a moutain . ps its not wildcamping unless its bad weather lol. atb kev
No worries Kev. Only disappointed in so much as we had to cut our excursion short. Was looking forward to more hiking and more cooking the following day. But by the time we got back to the car the lack of sleep was already catching up with me. Oh well more adventures to look forward to and the naturehike survived to see another day. Thanks for watching. Atb!
Excellent video, I also liked the cooking bit. A friend of mine had his Vango Hurricane blow down in a gale (50mph +) many years ago and when he wrote to Vango they replied "Well Mars Bars don't come from Mars, it's just a name." The point being that when some buildings suffered structural damage and the Met Office have issued warnings, how would you expect a tent to hold up. I was camping on a ridge on Mount Hood in Oregon years ago when the wind got very gusty. My brother and I were collapsing the ten to move elsewhere and I just pulled out the last tent peg when another very strong gust blew the tent away!
Paul Lydon oh no! I hope you managed to find shelter.
The tent did incredibly well really. For the price point and the protection it offers me it was exceptional. Msr have great customer service and really, now I’ve slept I’m actually very pleased with it.
Wow! An expensive kite that turned out to be then, Paul. Must admit, we tackled the deconstruction of our campsite together, one unpegging whilst the other one pinned it down. Thanks for watching, all the best!
I got a tent from outlanders? Anyway said it was 4 season but being me I never trust what they say it got drenched in fabsil twice. 2 nights on a hill near here - Pendle same kinda weather a d it was okay for £40 in sale. But I have been toting with making own bell tent or as my mates call it bellenders tent. We'll see! When I get it done and get out in it, I shall post up a video. Good stuff - new lad had real baptism.
Would love to see how a home made Bell tent looks!
@@OffTheBeatenPot Here! Here!
You should definitely share a videi if your own tent construction. Be good to see it.
These dome shaped tents are the wrong profile. My small low profile one man ten I bought in the 1970 s was a Robert Sanders back packer coffin shaped tent which I used for approx 20 years and was never blown down once and it stood up to many big gales .I now still use the same shape in Terra Nova one man which also stood up to stronger winds than that in a yellow warning 2018 on Cleveland Way at 1800 ft. Those flimsy dome tents would be flattened
Who had which tent and which one did better?
Epic video this is the kind of tent review I was looking for. Looking at buying the cloud up 2
Cool. Glad that you have found us. We have managed to do some pretty extensive testing of all our tents, none more so than the Naturehike. A great tent. There's links in the video description to all of the products used.
you could do with trying the Windy app (free) or their online map, selectable elevation readings, accurate and makes a great planning tool for pitching. enjoyed the collaboration, look forward to more 👍
Ah! I will have to look out for that. Cheers. And thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the video.
Great video!
Thanks Paul!
Great stuff Trev loved it mate well in!
Cheers, Rob! Glad that you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
I think the mistake is set on your guyline on naturehike
Mmmmmmm Thom looked gutted about the MSR Tent, looked like an Elephant had trod on it(they aint cheap either, MSR Tents not Elephants).......the naturehike seemed to come away in better condition even though its not designed for that kind of 'battering'......great food and an eventful camp lads, good entertainment..........cheers..Stu.
Cheers, Stu. Yeah he was pretty gutted, but to be fair to MSR they quickly sent out new poles, and a spare set too, so a result. Was proud of the Naturehike, the thing kept springing back to life. Will upload a video soon where I assess the damge. Thanks for watching! Ab!
@@SummitOrNothing So they should Trev(im glad for Thom) not seen one under £160 and thats the 1man version....dont rate them myself, very low HH rating and those poles seem made of jelly. Look forward to your vid......tnx for the reply
@@stubloggs6358 Yea I know. And to think it's heavier than a lot if 3 man tents too!
The worst thing about he weekend was when I got home someone had broke my elephant.
@@OffTheBeatenPot LOL.....🤦♂️ Thats the trouble with Elephants, you cant leave them on their own without them getting broken.

MSR came good and sent another set, plus a spare too. Thanks for watching!
Well that does it for me, MSR tents are off my list. Okay as a fair-weather tent, but when they are really required they let you down; and as old mate said, they cost a fair bit too so you would expect better if you are laying your hard earned down.
YEah, it did seem dissapointing, although this is one of their lower priced tents. I'd still like totry put a hubba hubba.
Had a tent flattened in a storm so went for hillebergs as reconned it would save me money not having to replace inferior tents and your safety is not worth compromising on.
Would this do ok in 25mph winds?
THe Naturehike is great in winds up to 40mph, I have found that an additional guy line tied off of the rear window helps considerably.
If you had to choose between the banshee and naturehike which one would you pick up? I'm planing to buy a new tent but Im still confused about which one to pick up, vango banshee pro or naturehike cloud up 2.
I like the Banshee, and it may have fared better in this wind than the Naturehike, but for room and in great conditions I love the Naturehike.
how about naturhike morgar 2 it better chocie than MSR Elixir anyone compare?
that MSR tent is a ultra-light summer tent designed to be as light as it can its not designed for any form of high wind hence summer tent
Well, its actually a 3 season tent and I have never seen a mention of summer use only in any description. And for nearly £300 you would hope it would perform better than this, surely?
@@SummitOrNothing Three-season tents are not designed for extreme wind loading, i have the two-man version of that tent and have used it in 50mph + winds. With the proper pitching, it was rock solid didn't move an inch. This isn't near £300 you can pick them up new for £200 its an entry-level tent the lowest end model they make. Good luck getting any three-season tent to survive similar conditions for less than that money. Also, the guy lines were not even tight. User error here plain and simple.

Just been wild camping up the Moors with my son, lovely time round the Manaton - Bowermans nose area. All was great till we got home and found 2 ticks on me and 4 on my son. Got them off. Just wondered how do you deal with the Ticks that are so prevalent 'everywhere' not just Dartmoor?
Had a great time and a lovely 11mile walk over the moors, just a bit tainted by the 'inspection' process that has to be done every time you wild camp! these Ticks are bastards and 'everywhere'!
Eugh!!! That is horrendous. So far I have not met any ticks (touch wood), and I have been tarp camping up there too, so surprising really. Was you wearing shorts? I was always told to keep your legs covered when walking through the long grass, apart from that, I have no real experience. Shame that happened to you both, sounded like a great experience other than that!
@@SummitOrNothing Yeah always great up there - love it! Perhaps it was the Bank Hols weather or we were just in a bad area - who knows... We were both wearing long walking trousers - one bastard got me on the wrist.
