  • Having left the beautiful Isle of Mull , we set off across the nation to Aberdeenshire and arrived at Balmoral Castle . This was an arranged visit, cancelled previously due to the Covid lockdowns.

    I visited 5 years ago and was amazed that you are able to roam about freely & go right up to the castle. The public are only allowed inside the ballroom as it is after all a private residence. This does however give you an insight into history and I was just mesmerised. I ran my hand down the banister on the staircase leading up from the ballroom to the main house thinking Queen Victoria herself would have done the same. When I was there the chimneys were being repointed & a lone bloke was touching up window frames. The gardeners were working in the greenhouses and it was evident they were preparing for Her Majesty’s annual holiday. Although it is a castle, there is nothing showy about it. It actually looks homely and more functional than anything. Her Majesty’s heart must have been full of joy every year she arrived at Balmoral. It really is truly stunning and sadly will now be forever remembered as the place our great Queen passed away. Definitely worth a visit even if you are not a royalist!

    Thoroughly enjoyed your tour around Balmoral. What a stunning place, hopefully one day we will attend in our new to us MH. We drove passed it a few years ago when we did the 500…Stayed in B&Bs, every night a different one. The weather was exceptional, the locals said they had never known it to be so hot and sunny for the whole of our two weeks going round. We were so lucky…We are going to the Peaks next week for our first outing in our MH….I am slowly going through all of your videos you have made. Very enjoyable…..Thank you…Colleen ❤

      Balmoral is a fascinating place where you can even spend the night in the car park. I recall reading about a planned event this year in the Ballroom, celebrating the life of Queen Elizabeth. If it materialises, we'll look forward to revisiting soon. Thanks for watching and for your gracious remarks. Warm regards, H and M.

    My understanding is Balmoral estates are 50,000 acres, which is a whopping 78 square miles of pristine, essentially untouched private land in the midst of the Scottish highlands. Some areas of rivers and bogs haven't been seen by humans in probably 300 yrs+.

    • @HelenandMartinsTreks
      @HelenandMartinsTreks  Год назад +2

      That's pretty much it Peter , although strictly speaking it's not in the highlands but on Deeside , it's barren and wild albeit very beautiful in the large part. Purchased private by the Royal Family in 1852. Thanks for watching .

    Hey Helen & Martin! I just have a couple of questions; again, I loved this overview of Balmoral so much; wondering, would it be fair to assume that when the Queen was well, that she would have wandered around most of the grounds that you showed? Also, I noted Martin saying that you have now visited 4 or so of the Royal residences. Which one would be your favorite? Finally, the peacefulness of Balmoral was so evident here, & adding this was the birdsong - simply exquisite!

    • @HelenandMartinsTreks
      @HelenandMartinsTreks  Год назад +2

      Hi Kate , yes the Queen regularly walked the estate on Balmoral and did so since she was a girl. The other four palaces are Buckingham Palace, which the Queen regarded as the Office , Windsor Castle which is amazing to visit and of course Balmoral and Sandringham. It's hard to pick a favourite , they're all amazing and very different both in terms of the visitor experience and the role they play in the life of the Monarch. You are right about the birdsong , it was beautiful. Best wishes Helen and Martin

      @@HelenandMartinsTreks Thank you both! I just find it amazing (and wonderful) that members of the public can walk the estate, just as she did. I realise she is not there when the public visits, but just to feel that close to her, if I can describe it that way, is wonderful! Best wishes to you both also. Kate

      Hi Sandy , other than when the monarch is in residence , which has traditionally been from the end of July to the beginning of October , visitors can walk around the beautiful grounds unrestricted generally . It’s a really beautiful and peaceful place. It’s the same at Sandringham and Windsor also really worth a visit. Thanks for watching , best wishes Helen and Martin.

    What an awesome overview of Balmoral! Thank you so much for sharing this. I have been researching Balmoral this the Queen's death & it is such a beautiful place. I can certainly see why she loved it here.

      Hi Kate , it is a beautiful place. We actually live near the Queens other favourite , Sandringham in Norfolk which is worth researching , she used to stay there every Christmas arriving 22nd/23rd December and leave the day after the anniversary of her fathers death. This was George VI , who passed on 6th Feb 1952 at Sandringham. Windsor Castle of course is where she regarded as home for the in between periods. I'm hoping you find this interesting , forgive me if you already knew this. Special lady for us , our boss , 40 years ago we swore an Oath of Service to her and have always been proud of that. Thanks very much for watching the video, especially at this time it really means a lot us. All the very best Helen and Martin

      @@HelenandMartinsTreks Oh Helen! What a beautiful reply! Thank you so very much. I knew the Queen always went to Sandringham at Christmas. She kind of evened out her habitation sort of equally amongst all her properties. I wonder if Charles will do similar? Anyway, yes, I adored your video & will watch some more later. My husband & I (no pun intended! HRH used to say that) have never visited the UK, but it has always been on my list of places since I was a child (I am nearly 59 so some time now). Hope you are doing OK; I hadn't realised quite how fond I was of the Queen. Thanks Helen, you are an absolute gem!

      Gracias por contactar con nosotros. Siento no haber podido seguir ningún subtítulo. Lo he investigado y creo que tienes que hacer clic en el botón Cc en tu aplicación de RUclips y luego seleccionar la opción de configuración y luego subtítulos automáticos, seleccionando español en el menú desplegable. He tomado esto del soporte de RUclips, solo estamos tratando de ser útiles. Parece que no es algo que podamos hacer con este fin, pero no estamos 100% seguros de ser honestos. De cualquier manera, es muy bueno saber de ti, nuestros mejores deseos, Helen y Martin.
