I consider myself a professional scrounger (or "never pay retail gal"). I like to find high quality stuff at highly discounted prices. Hands down, Hancock's of Paducah has the best discounts on premium fabric. I like to find great deals, and then find a project to make with it. That is the "appeal" to me. I just picked up some Timeless Treasures Soho Sail Blue. I paid $3.99 a yard. Yes, I had to buy 15 yards, but it is a color that I will use (and I think will go well with my WM Morris 'stuff') in many settings. $3.99 deals are harder to come by post Covid. They have superb deals on closeout fat quarters too. I have not found any other online store that offers as deep a discounts. But they have regular and great selections of premium fabric discounted below $6/yd. I never pay more than $6 per yard for fabric. I find some yardage at thrift stores too. That's where our stuff is going to go if we don't get our Swedish Death Quilting finished before we expire!
Always lovely to see a scrap haul. I’d like to recommend Wool Warehouse in the UK. They sell fabric as well as yarn and have deals on remnants which are essentially bolt ends. I bought a solid pack for just £5 - six colours of probably Moda solids in greys, peach and burnt orange, each piece either just under a half metre or just under a long quarter. I estimated at least £30 of fabric. Also available are bundles of patterned fabric; totally random, no choice over colours etc. Postage is free in the UK for orders over £25.
You're so funny Kristin! As a fellow fabric maniac, I totally understand! I really think we should all adopt you for the UK. Please stay with us! I look forward to your wonderful quilts.x
OMGoodness absolutely Devine!! Your quilt idea sounds great!! Very creative and so different from others . You look lovely in that color. Namesta ✌️🕉️🐞FYI
Hello Kristen, I cannot wait to see what becomes of your fabric. I love seeing the quilts. I admire how you are able to put things together and wish I had the patience. I totally get the cutting out a whole quilt.. 😬😳 very overwhelming. I don’t write often, but I will be watching what you accomplish. 🥰 Take Care, Chris-Raleigh NC
You got a great variety there. Im trying to use what i have and not buy more. I will need some for backing etc but other than that I want to use what i have first for a bit.
I'm a sucker for William Morris Fabric. I have found a few on closeout...and I've been hoarding them away. Free Spirit had 25 fat quarter mystery bundles that used to sell on Amazon for the unheard of price of 21-23 (US). A fantastic deal. They had several WmMorris fat quarters. I've not seen them in a while, but I bought several of these and made some fabulous stuff with them. (except the nestled quarters of Wm Morris in a box awaiting proper inspiration)
Wow I never thought to look for scraps on eBay. I went this pass Sat. To a second hand shop and found bag of scraps it had the starts of the double wedding ring enough for 8 blocks all hand stitched a fat quarter 1/4 yard of fabric some needle point. And a few other pieces for $2 then for $3 I got 5 pillowcases 1 valance 7 skirts 1 shirt so for $5 got a lot of fabric.
Great haul! I'm in California but watch UK sewing chanels a lot on RUclips. They keep me company in the sewing room and educate me on William Morris and Liberty fabrics. I'm bad at remembering fabric line names too but what's important is the beautiful prints/quality. I shop thrift shop and estate sales a lot but I've been cutting back on buying lately. Need to sew up the stash!
I love this idea & am a big Tula Pink fan--I've been slowly collecting auctioned scraps from ebay & etsy, and did buy a bit of yardage recently because I fell in love with the HUGE ladybugs of hers to use as a backing recently (I never knew there were *big* ones--now I can't decide who will get that quilt amongst all the ones I have been planning for nieces, cousins, etc.). I will have to go find your follow up video to see how this one turned out. I thought I'd seen about all your SFL videos but I'm still stumbling across a few older ones now and again. :) A couple years I found some still in the package Ralph Lauren sheets for sale on marketplace for about $5 each--some as large as a King, and many were flat. So I bought several. and they are still waiting to back quilts I will eventually make. Not to keen on all the colors, but I know I will use them!
Thanks for watching! I haven’t got too far with the Tula Pink/Morris idea yet. I did a couple sections and then got distracted with other projects. I might revive it though - I still have most of my Tula and Morris fabric sitting in a box together waiting…
That's going to be beautiful, I love William Morris prints. I can't do "quilt patterns" either; too overwhelming. I lose interest if I have to cut 140 pieces before I can begin sewing. I just saw you on the Idiot Quilter, you were great. Gotta say, I didn't appreciate that comment he made that you didn't make it if you have someone else quilt it (paraphrasing). Oh well, different strokes for different folks. We can't all go out and buy a longarm.
I knew I couldn’t be the only one who didn’t like following patterns! I know what you mean about that comment - I was a bit surprised so didn’t know what to say! I always want to quilt my own but different strokes for different folks - if someone hates the quilting part but loves the piecing then it makes sense to use a longarmer! Each to his own as my Grandma would say!
I am enjoying your videos so much. Recently found you. Will you cut your scraps up into squares or bundle into containers by color. I so enjoy your doing your own thing. Have rarely cut everything before hand. Only when I first started quilting. This was fun watching you unpack..
Thanks so much! I do sort by colour but I don’t usually cut to any set size until I have a quilt in mind. I’m actually in the process of reorganizing all my fabric and I’ll have some videos about that in the next few weeks.
That was quite a haul! Good going 😁😁😁😁 By the way, I’ve just successfully made my first piece of FPP (your heart pattern). I’m completely hooked ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love the idea of the William Morris/Tula Pink mashup. The teacup fabric is from Curiouser and Curiouser. You have some discontinued Tula, like the raccoon, so you might have trouble if you need more. I generally only buy fabric on sale. Apparently prices will be going up, so I am doing a bit of hoarding. I have a particular aesthetic, so my stash isn’t too awful.
I never pay retail. I like to find a deal and dream up a project to make with it. It keeps my fabric costs at 25-50% of retail. I buy neutrals on the bolt. Not hard to plow through yardage on a large background quilt. Hancock's of Paducah is my main supplier to my fabric addiction.
Where do you pick up fabric bargains?

Great info! I love a good thrift store find too!
Thrift stores, ebay, garage sales. Often I buy apparel, curtains, and bedding and cut it into useable pieces.
Love it! 💕
Ikea does really cheap cotton sheets, very useful for backing. Their fabric is also cheap and good quality.
What a nice bonus when you joined the guild. Good fabric haul all around.
I like the quilt idea. I would never have thought to check ebay.
So much stuff on there! Hope you find something good if you try it!
Such lovely fabric. I hope you have a marvelous week. Thank you for posting this video!
Thanks! I hope you have a marvellous week too! 😀
Ooh I love William Morris designs, so beautiful, you got a real bargain there!
Thanks!

Oooh good tip! I’ve never heard of them - off to check it out! You are enabling me buying more though 😂!

Aw thanks so much! I do have U.K. citizenship so no plans to move!

Thanks so much! Hope I can make the quilt I have in my head! 😂
OMG. I’m allergic to patterns too. I love to do my own thing. Just found your channel. Love it.
Yeah! So glad you like the channel. Thanks so much for watching!!
Hi Kristin-! I'm new to your channel..Im from Wisconsin USA.. I just love looking at fabrics!.. Tc
Thanks for watching!
Great haul- can't believe people can sell their scraps, too funny!
Some people hate working with scraps! Works out for me though obviously 😀!

Yes I was trying to do that for a good while there and then I caved and bought this stuff 😅! I need to delete eBay from my phone for a while! 😂

It’s timeless isn’t it! Sounds like you got some great bargains!

That is amazing! It’s definitely cheaper when the folk selling it don’t understand what they have 😂! Great bargain hunting!

Yes I need to sew my stash too! I just had a weak moment there…well a few actually 😂
