Isn't that the truth, but if you want to keep the icing process manageable (and for me joyable) minimizing my icing colors really helps!

The more you do it, the easier it gets. But for me, it took some time to get a steady head and figure out the process!

Do you have advice for improving my piping skills? Don’t think I’ll make it to next level in decorating unless I can outline better. Though even with poor piping skills, managing to have a lot of fun baking this year.
Janette, when I first started decorating cookies I would use up my leftover icing with piping practice sheets. It was a great way to build my skills. Just piping straight lines over and over helped my (pretty shaky) hand get steadier.
Paying attention to your icing consistency (soft peak icing with movement for the piping consistency and a 10-second icing for the flood) and hand pressure (how hard you squeeze) will also make a difference as you continue to decorate.
