- I could not believe the quality of fish we got onto this trip. It was nice to get on the kayak again and spend some time with my dad out on the water.

Crescent Lake; Big lake’s next door neighbor is the highest lake in Arizona. Great fishing also! Only dreaming living inMT now.
Went to Big Lake a few weeks ago with my dad and brother. Together we caught 7 Trout with the smallest being 13 inches long, Trolling the same area you’re in.
Nice video. Heading up there in 4 days for the first time in 15 years!

Amen to offer up I live on that app always find tackle for low prices and tackle i have always had good lures and rods from there,I've never been up north to fish don't like driving to many idiots on the road ,but man that sure looks peaceful were about is big lake ? @Ray P most of the time I’m using 15lb power pro braid to a 10lb fluorocarbon leader. My favorite fluorocarbon is PLine Tactical. 10lb braid to 6lb or even 4lb fluorocarbon is even better, but most of my gear is set up for bass fishing and I’m to lazy and cheap to switch it out for one trip😂

I'd love to know how to do something like this without a fish finder. I've got a fishing innertube but no way to see current depth, bottom layout, or where fish are schooling or nearing the thermocline.
You just gotta experiment
@Cannon Ball Z without the tech you just have to do some experimenting. One way I used to do it is just pay attention to how long it took my line to hit the bottom. Once you get bit focus on keeping the same drop time to hit the bottom and you’ll be in the right depth. The tech does help a lot.

What size line did you use? Awesome video- love Big Lake!
I was using 15lb braid to a 10lb fluorocarbon leader. I usually use 10lb to start off and I’ll go down in size if the fish aren’t biting good. I don’t usually have to go down in size very often.
10 lb is a bit overkill in my opinion. You don’t need that heavy tackle on big lake. Might help explain why you had a few misses. I personally run 4lb mono on 5’6” ultralight for the majority of my trout fishing in AZ.
@@psstplease your totally right. It’s not needed and it’s a bit overkill. I just use what I have and I do mostly bass fishing so I make my bass gear work. One of these days I’m sure I’ll get a more optimized setup for the trout here😂.
@@GOALFishing it’s good to be a little diverse when it comes to gear/equipment. I have 6 rod/reel setups. 2 ultra lights for trout and small sunfish/crappie (4 and 6 lb line) 2 medium actions for bass (8 Lb test each) and two medium heavy for catfish (15 and 20 lb). I run mono on everything. I can pretty much fish for any species anywhere in the state.
Ps you don’t have to break the bank on brand new gear from bass pro…lots of deals to be found on places like offer up.
What lb test line would you recommend, for someone else trying to target these bigger big lake trout. My stepdad goes up there with the standard 10 lb test that comes with the zebco. I just want to make sure he's not loosing the bigger ones because of that. Will have to do a line swap for him if needed.
Were you mostly fishing south cove?
@AZ Viking yes this whole video was done in south cove. We never went any farther than 150 yards from the boat ramp. We got on to fish and they kept biting so we just stayed.
