Y'all know this is just my opinion, right? Видеоклипы
was low key expecting melon to maybe give this a 10 due to the time it took to review it
“Greatest thing to happen […] in like a decade”
“8/10”
Classic Fantano. It's a 10 for me.
"one of the greatest [...] contributions to [...] rock"
"8/10''
I know this is a joke but he's clearly saying Lofi hop is mostly mid and this is great for its standards
I like how people will just blatantly remove words to build a new sentence out of a quote they don’t like and literally millions of people will be like “me and my wrinkle free brain will give this a thumbs up”
@@JenkinsOwen bit of a laugh mate dont deep it
This album plays quietly in the background whenever you are in the state of Missouri.
From Missouri, can confirm.
This ought to be the top comment instead of the Kendrick ones
Not from Missouri but I agree
Drove through Missouri once and this checks out
Lol I literally saw Cindy Lee play last night in St. Louis Missouri. They were great!
When Cindy said “Eff all that Pushin’ P, Let me see you Push A T” I knew this was AOTY.
ive listened to women, preoccupations and cindy lee and never knew they were connected
I was surprised to find that out too.
What
Listen to Androgynous mind too, it is also another fantastic project by Patrick
How
nice try, we all know a fantano fan would never listen to women
Can't focus on the lo-fi music review with that Seer Dog staring into my soul.
At least it’s not the back of the vinyl
@@milkyways_2413 no reason to be an ass... hehe
WOOF WOOF
Did you just call Kendrick Lamae a "seeing dog"?
Just saw Cindy Lee at a sold out, 300 person capacity, shoulder to shoulder Hi Dive in Denver, CO this past Sunday night supporting this album! What a show! Was a real treat to hear songs from this album live! What a record!
I am going to see them in 2 weeks! Bought tickets in a whole other city the same day I heard the album and it sold out just after that. So excited!
@@FabulousResults You’re gonna love it! They only play for about 45 minutes to an hour but literally no second is wasted in their set and almost, if not all, of the set was from Diamond Jubilee! Always Dreaming, Wild One, Dracula were all great live! What’s It Going To Take straight up almost made me cry haha what a show! Absolutely a great time and the openers were solid too! Have so much fun!!
😢 I had tickets to see him next week but now its cancelled
Saddest thread
that was such a great show, glad it happened before they cancelled the rest of the tour :(
Been WAITING for this one.
I heard some of this on stream yesterday and was absolutely amazed by this. Excited to give it a full shot
I wanna see the reaction is it in your Patreon?
My name is thomas and I have a thomas taste in music
hells yea you should do public strain at some point too
you're in for a treat, might be the best album ive ever heard
please DONT last thing I need is zoomers to ruin flegel rock. Please
if the album was called "euphoria" you would have gave it a 10
Too early but sure
i was about to comment this T-T

Ngl, for a second I thought you were going to give this a 10.
It should have been a 10.
Anthony, when Chris Reimer died (the other guitarist from Women), I was the one who emailed you to tell you about it. Crazy we're both still here 12 years later!
I used to work in a record shop in Iceland and I had people in the shop who told me they were from Calgary and I told them my favorite Canadian was from Calgary (Women) and it turned out to be Chris Reimer's sister, it was a heartfelt moment ❤
That's so crazy you were the one to email him reporting the death of Chris Reimer
my jaded ass ignored it for weeks, convinced there wasn't anything truly interesting in Indie Rock™ in 2024 worth checking out. When I actually gave it a chance it quickly became the only thing I've listened to with intent for the last 2 weeks. I'm surprised the metacommentary of it being such a throwback to the late 00's - early 10's experimental scene didn't get a mention. Also I think the rare shrill guitar does add some necessary sonic contrast, but thats me.
it was the polaris prize not the mercury prize! the mercury prize is just for the UK/Ireland
im so fucking glad fantano covered this record, turly one of the best i've heard in a while imo
ye
Definitely a 10 in my heart.
had the pleasure of seeing cindy lee live twice now, glad to see you talk about this project.
Last time i saw preoccupatuons Matt flegel had injured his hand, and cindy lee was already opening so Pat played the bass parts and it was as close to a women reunion as i think we'll ever get.
I went to their glasgow show. It was so awesome to see em all on one stage
Never been so offended to see an 8
Diamond Jubilee is an astonishing album. I'll be surprised if there is a better album released this year.
"Astonishing" is a bit strong for a retro album. It's good, for sure, albeit a bit long and scattered.
@@goyovista You don't 'own' my view of the album. If you feel its 'retro' this is your view and I accept it.
I’m debating between Diamond Jubilee and Lives Outgrown by Beth Gibbons for AOTY so far… both are amazing records
Everyone has been asking for a review for this album and now that its out everyone wants a video about the kendrick diss lmao.
no one give a damn about midrick Bladee dropped

Yooooooooo, I’ve met Patrick a few times and he’s a total sweetheart, saw him play a set off of each cd of this album and it’s maybe one of if not the best live performances I’ve EVER seen!
Patrick uses they/them pronouns :)
@@pLasticiTic is that even true lol?
@@bobbysworldofficial umm, yeah? Why would I lie about that, lol
@@pLasticiTic since when?
@@bobbysworldofficial the earliest mention of their pronouns I've seen is from their interview with The Fader in 2020. Yes, there are certain articles that still refer to Pat with he/him, but it's pretty common for gender-diverse people to be misgendered (unfortunately).
Every day, I wake up wishing I was CIndy Lee, or at least possessed a fraction of the musical talent
I haven't loved an album as much on first listen since Blue Rev, and I think I love this one even more.
Been playing it on mostly repeat for a few weeks now and it gets better and better and better every time.
You should revisit What's tonight to eternity honestly
Absolutely should.
He did. It was on a YUNO review.
Excited to jump into this one. Thanks for the recc
CINDY LEE MY BELOVED AAAHHHH

@@Elgordo37468 underrated album
I went to the Cindy Lee show on Saturday and it was only about a 10 song set but was amazing
For the stats people: This technically also counts as a light 9/10, as said by Anthony at 10:23
Anthony I am BEGGING u to give Spirit of the Beehive more credit on the modern hypnagogic pop front
they're lofi, but more indie / postpunk than hypnagogic
@@LfunkeyA Listen to their last 2 albums, and especially their last EP, and tell me that's not hypnagogic
from that description I was expecting to scroll to a 10/10. I guess I should check this out.
Hey thanks for the recommendation... I stopped this vid halfway thru and went and listened to the entire album, and it was worth it. Might even purchase.
Absolutely loved this album. It's so many genres and subgenres done skillfully.
one of my fav releases of the year
Previewed the album on RUclips and went ahead and downloaded it, including sending the suggested donation to Realistik. Just finished cataloguing it myself in the music app on my Mac, even uploaded the album art that came with the zip file. It was weirdly gratifying. Highly recommend everyone who hears this album to support if they can.
Holy crap, could you possibly make the simple af act of making an album purchase sound any more pretentious??
We get it, you & fans of this album are wHoLeSoMe. I wish I could try to give this album a chance w/o being constantly douched-out by the overwhelming shallow & contrived positivity of its more vocal fanbase
Surprised Ariel Pink wasn't mentioned once, his music kept popping up in my brain throughout this album. Diamond Jubilee feels like if Ariel matured and became a lil more restrained in his weirdness
Same!
Melon hates Pink
Kind of an egregious omission imo, love women/patrick and it’s very clear early AP is an influence here
honestly, i think an 8 is fair. it probably could have been trimmed down a bit, but the highs are really high and the lows aren’t that low. very good album
been waiting for this
Rate your music has been waiting for this review for months
Love the sound, love The release concept
This should have been a 10.
You’re such a “princess and the pea” when it comes to Lofi music. The harsh shrills are partly would make this album so amazing while paired with all the delicate beauty.
Double Review day: crazy
Thanks for introducing me to the album Anthony! I would have never discovered it otherwise
Just discovered you, like your reviews! Do you ever review Eurovision songs? Would think your takes would be fun!
Incredible album. Listened to it everyday for a week to prepare to see the Cindy Lee show (which was incredible) and it only got better and better. Really wish I could get it on vinyl.
Ive been jamming this since it released, thought i found a hidden gem. but fantano dashes my dreams once again.
Been waiting on this one
Been listening to this a lot. It really grows on you more and more with each listen. And I mentioned this on the YT vid for the album but if anyone wants to hear what I believe to be a really really underrated genius lo fi 2000's album that is totally slept on, check out WALK - Every Track (2003-2011). If you like Cindy Lee I can almost guarantee you'll like it.
Never thought I'd see a geocities link in a Fantano video
"One of the greatest Canadian contributions to underground rock in the 2010's" woah melon let's not get crazy here
LETS GO FINALLY
man ive been waiting for cold visions by blade reviewed by you for the last week. pls do so
Definitely picked up the “Smile” influence (“surfs up” definitely came to mind during “don’t tell me I’m wrong”) and also got some Jesus and Mary Chain vibes. I wake up with a different track stuck in my head each morning the more I listen! Totally consumed
Equivocating Pat flegel to the beach boys is a little... Maybe... Redundant?
@@Tandle779 Now now, don’t get too carried away. He’s lovely but he’s no Brian Wilson
Thoughts on Kelly Morans - Moves in the field album? A neo avant-garde classical album. My album of the year :3
I was worried you wouldn’t review this…I feel relief
Dude, I don’t know how but I felt like you spotlighted an underground artist(maybe rapper) in a video back in late 2017. I can’t seem to find it anywhere but it was described as grungy rap. Can anyone help find that video?
It’s not a bad album at all, I enjoyed myself listening to it but I generally do not understand the major hype for it. Pitchfork is making it seem like this is the next big thing of the generation but I’m genuinely trying to understand why. I feel like this take by them is influencing a lot of people to worship this album on first listen.
Maybe it's just an enjoyable listen. I don't think that critical reviews (unusual praise, dismissal, etc.) hold so much power / influence over readers... unless they simply cannot think for themselves.
review the new lemon twigs album pls
COLD VISIONS
The second disc really takes off too. This whole album is so good.
Anyone know why the album isn’t on streaming? Or atleast not on tidal? Thats what I use
it's available to download for free
Thank you Fantano for introducing me to this transfixing album!
This isnt in spotify, right?
Literally perfect album, deserves a 10
I feel like anthony didnt want to put in the effort to really give thisa deep dive because of the length. Shame because once you dig a bit and get familiar you realize its better than expected 10/10 record of the generation
i really thought
This album is like if Twin Peaks was set in west Texas 10/10 I love it
Nice rating. Its the best album of this year clearly
The guitar and drums being out of step for a few bars is a FEATURE not a flaw, Ant Hony.
i’m so happy you know cindy lee. “dry dive” is the most beautiful song of all time
Finally some good music. Berta represent!
Nice album review.
Holy shit he loved it

Hey Tony, this review was a 10/10 but I'm giving it an 8

Desperately waiting for a review of that new St. Vincent album, it was fucking beautiful front to back
I second this
Yeah, but let Cindy finally get her Fantano Flowers, ffs.
@@milk_bath I completely agree, Cindy definitely deserves every bit of praise for this album
Bladee diffs
@@xxx_rotfd_xiii_xii3619 That is the wildest take I've heard all day. The new Bladee album was alright at best, hella inconsistent
Yeah, this is a great record. It covers very similar same terrain as, for instance, Dirty Beaches; Ela Orleans; early US Girls; She Devils; John Maus; and even Ariel Pink, do. But the tunes here are stronger than for most of those other artists, and the noise and fuzz is dialed back enough to let those tunes shine through. Best record of the (still very young, and so far, terrific for music) year, in my opinion.
The sloppy playing is absolutely an aesthetic choice, not a problem of musicianship. It subverts the expectation that 50s/60s pop is a genre of studio perfectionism. Pat needed to play "Shaking Hand" live in Women without missing a note, so clearly the technical skill is there... Too bad you didn't dig a little deeper into the choice here, only dinging it on face-value
Saying it's a "choice" is interesting, I think the choice was not to re-do takes if they messed up but it's not like they are playing badly intentionally lol. Great record, deserves at least a 9.
@@dogsatlarge452 That's still a choice though. Kinda like how J Dilla chose not to quantize his drum samples
@@dogsatlarge452 I think Pat is a better guitar player than you maybe realize
