- Grail Knight has the most satisfying melee combat in Warhammer, so let's take him for a spin on Dark Omens for Warhammer Vermintide 2, and see what he and Kerillian the Wood Elf Waystalker can do when surrounded by hordes of Beastmen and Minotaurs!

Gotta hand it to Fatshark how they nailed the melee combat, feels heavy, impactful and responsive. Cant wait to see darktide in action.
Hope the gun play is relatively smooth. I really like the idea of them doing gunplay with bolters than black powder.

The Grail Knight and the Longsword in general are just so damn satisfying. When you master the flow of the Longsword, moving between its combos for different enemy types and casually parrying attacks mid heavy swing, you feel like a god.
I never really like Bretonnia until I started reading their lore and man superhuman grail knights are just too badass of a concept.

It is a good class, but I just can't wrap my head around Sir Kruber turning his back on the empire to become french of all things. That's worse than chaos.

Bretonnia is a totally different thing. And if Fatshark really wanted to add a Bretonnian they should have made a sixth class.

I mean by Vermintide 2 the Empire is pretty much non-existent thanks to the End Times. If the apocalypse was going on and I was given the opportunity to become basically a demigod I'd take it too.
Grail Knight is about one of my favorite classes, if not the most.
But still, it kinda bugs me after all this time we didnt get a proper Bretonnian, and Kruber becoming a Grail Knight out of nowhere. I wish we had a real support character in such a coop-focused game in the form of a Bretonnian Damsel. Beast or Life lore would had been soooo great to see in Vermintide, and her interactions with Saltspyre about Sigmar vs The Lady, or with a wood elf with Kerillian personality ... just awesome.
@@guillercuastico i wanted to see some more unique takes like a vampire character or a dark elf, because in the lore they do fight with the good side against chaos at the end even though they are evil ish sorta. imagine a vamp character thats a necro, a sorc and then a blood knight would be super cool! maybe next vermintide they do new characters that are not standard and they have orcs and more chaos infuenced factions
Love the grail knight. He was the reason I bought the game. Hope they keep adding items and customizations for him. For Thee Lady!!!
Hopefully the release purified helms for all the characters. I would love to play a full white purified Grail Knight

I don't understand the hype, when I've used it on Merc or FK in CW I always feel like it can't keep hordes at bay and my health gets chipped away by single rats who aren't caught in cleave
@@axelwedelin92 my technique for bret sword is hold heavy to block attacks, swing, and dodge back. Works very well in champ or legend, dont know about cata, dont have winds of magic
Loving the true duos gameplay, doing it on this map is you telling the developers “is this it? Is that all you can conjure Saruman?” I’m so hype for darktide
A lot of people don't like the Bret sword and shield, but I really like the quick push into bash combo.

My most used weapon. Also of note is it's first heavy attack. Nasty downward swing kills stuff good. I just wish they'd fix the thrust (Third heavy attack) which doesn't hit anywhere near the aim dot.

I think shade is, you get criticals one after the other and get faster and faster so you become an actual blender. Bosses melt once you backstab them and keep the momentum.
Just a few quick tips on using the Bretonnian weapons.
With the longsword, you don't finish your full attack string, there is almost no circumstance when you're going to want to do that. Only if there are few armored targets mixed in a horde and you can hit them reliably with the third attack, for all other hordes it's light attack>light attack>block cancel>repeat.
For mixed hordes, you can also do light attack>heavy attack>light attack>heavy attack repeat ad infinitum.
For armor it's pretty simple: Push-block attack>heavy attack>light attack.
For the bret sword and shield you almost never want to do the push block attack. Except when fighting storm vermin with shields because stabs ignore shields. You can follow that push block attack up with a heavy attack for another stab.
So don't do that in a horde scenario. Want to want to do is push>quick bash>repeat until you get into a situation where you can switch back to a horde clearing weapon. Or go light attack>heavy bash>quick bash. Insanely good for thp when you run the stagger for thp talent. It's like a small Foot Knight charge.
Insane gameplay. New appreciation for this level when it’s not me playing the level trying to cleave through such hefty beast boys!

yes but at the moment it's a very slow weapon that needs a good position especially since Grail knight dont have any attack speed buffs
There were some real butt-clenching moments in this one. Absolutely love watching high level play like that. Especially with your commentary. And I also don't get how you could not like the melee in Vermintide 2. It's great and is only elevated by the spectacular feedback on hits, seeing limbs fly, enemies stumble, dismembered rats clutching the bloody stump were their arm used to be. Just so satisfying.
cata duo with my mate playing as the WP and i was grail, so much fun and not a crusty range weapon to be seen!
Poking rats in the head with salty will forever be my favorite.
I would still have to go with Slayer Bardin for most satisfying combat, jump into a crowd and go nuts with the cog hammer. Is it precise? No. But by Grimnir that bonking noise as Skaven heads go flying is magical.
pressing f and mashing left click with the dane axe on a boss is so satisfying you just mulch through it

3:53 There's only been two decent melee FPS games ever made: Dark Messiah (mostly for the kicking) and Vermintide. Every time an FPS game has melee weapons and they don't work like VT, it's an instant disappointment. I'd honestly like to hear what _their kind_ thinks is a good FPS melee system.
chiv and mord are good but they are more multiplayer games
The almighty kick from Dark Messiah is too powerful to appear in other games
The only better FPS system is from Mount and Blade Warband. Blending the two would be sweet. Do more dmg while stepping forward, and less on the back foot. Swiping different directions yields different strikes. As well, striking with the end of the weapon does more dmg than striking with the hilt, or mid-weapon.

For me he is excatly one step behind new shade with jav and dual daggers. But I do agree with you, the game's real duelist. Riposte is so funny to use with him.
Jav is way too overpowered and a massive crutch for many average players. Cant wait until they nerf it.

@@henrikandreason7261 i played since closed beta as well as V1. They were different games than they are now due to power creep etc. You used to actually have to balance your team composition. Now its just the illusion of a team game, essentially with 4 solo players competing against each other.
Question the weapon illusion, are they a mod or are they in game? I don't remember seeing them anywhere 🤔

Slayer with cogwheel hammer has the best satisfying melee for me, light attacks for CC & Heavy for deleting elites. I don’t even run a Dual 2H melee with this build, I just take throwing axes and extra 5% power and still delete patrols all by myself in legend. I open up with dawi-drop and follow up. It’s so satisfying doing this.
Grail Knight combat is a prime example of why Vermintides melee combat outshines a lot of AAA game's combat.
Sadly we don't get to see the True Glory of the bretonnian Knight as he is without a horse.
I don't want to come off rude, but do you know about the unique push/bash the bret sword and shield has? If you let go of guard after pushing and do a light attack, you will bash with the shield. It is much safer than doing the push-stab-bash and it comes out faster. None of the other shield weapons in the game have this unique light attack after pushing. In fact, it is the only melee weapon to have a different light attack after pushing.
ive used it in other Grail Knight vids. its usually a long time between me playing certain weapons/classes at this stage in the games life cycle, so i occasionally forget tech like that

If your ever in a sticky situation with GK just whip out the bret S&S and spam the push and bash combo your temp health go brrrrrr then you can whip out the longsword and clean them up as long as u have temp hp on stagger
I love this class... i now tend to take the holy sweep, it still 1 shots bosses but also clears absolutly any mob, send 10 stormvermin my way plz 🙏

They could probably go toe to toe with any of them, though blood knights could probably give them a run for their money
grail knights goes toe to toe with blood knights who are juiced up vampire in full plate armor, i'm pretty sure they can fight black orcs or chosen

From a lore perspective, Grail Knights are definitely better on average than a Black Orc or Executioner. they aren't just elite, they're superheroes. But as always, depends on the specific story, the specific enemy and how talented they are. Blood Knights and Chosen are certainly a similar tier

No, you’re better off sticking with Bret longsword for horde and switching to a shielded weapon for its push-block into shield bash if you need to create space. At which point it’s up to personal preference which shield you choose. That being said, Bret sword and shield has the fastest push-block bash combo in the game, by far..

Grail Knight is good, but Mercenary with zweihander or halberd will be always in my heart.
Merc is for temp health spam/endurance, grail is for damage or hybrid attack-defense
@@Emrirwastaken Merc is just handyman - one of the best anti-hordes specs, good ranged attacs, long reach of attack, best cleave, and very good active ability, especially with not good skilled party.

If you're referring to the video. It's his FOV. If you're referring to your own game I would check your FOV it does wonky stuff to what looks like it will and won't hit.

Even with turning the FoV down, VT2 feels more floaty than VT1. Don't know what they did, but I do not like it.
Now Grail Knight has it yes, before that it was SotT until they absolutely gutted and destroyed her.

Markus Kruber has a bretonian ancestor but he wasn't raised in Bretonia. The Lady made him a grail knight because of how much he has done to fight the skaven

That's just a really high FOV in the game. It makes a lot of the weapons in the game look wonky when hitting. It allows you to see more but hits coming towards you and your out going hits look like they won't hit and they do
2 melee weapons? Ah right. I mean, this isn't anything new to me, been using mods for that some 2 months or so since the launch. So, yeah, I know fully well what you're talking about. There was also a full solo rebalance mod that went away, tragically.

i disagree with this title, the slayer and by extension the dwarf has the extremes for most classes in the game imo. slayer melee tho mmmm so good to play....although the new mace with salt has closed the gap.
