    I didn't take my geraniums inside this winter. I live South Carolina. The temperature was low as 27 degrees. I covered the ones on the porch with landscaping fabric and then, I put marble rocks on top to keep warm. The geraniums bloomed all winter including the ones planted in the ground near my porch. Absolutely full and beautiful.

    I have Geraniums, all red, and finding the type has been terrible. I have the scented. These leaves are sooo velvety soft, and they do have a great smell to them....Thank You Very Much!!
    Fun Note: 😁
    To anyone that may like this fun bit of info, you will really like this. I am a cactus person, but always wanted to do a flower arrangement with some of my cacti. These plants do AMAZING with all of my cacti, except for a few due to water schedules. !!
    I love pairing them up with my Microdasys (Bunny Ear) and any of my Mammillaria cactus.(powder puff etc) Pretty much any or my clumping cacti.
    My personal choice is mixing these Geraniums with my Prickly Pears. They just look so good together. 😊
    I am hoping to get other colored Geraniums this summer, (I get mine free) and the pink or white & purple would work amazingly with any of my white wooley types of clumping cacti.
    Hope Everyone Is Having A Wonderful Christmas Holliday. ☺

    I bring my geraniums indoors in the winter and put them at a south or east window. They thrive indoors and bloom constantly with very little feeding..in fact, I don't feed them with anything other than indoor plant food once during the winter. I hate to take them back outdoors actually in the spring as they keep my windows colorful!! I think this plant is really misunderstood and underappeciated! Try wintering YOUR geraniums inside. You'll never stop it, once you try it.

    Are there zones where the geranium doesnt need to be winterized or taken indoors?

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  5 лет назад +2

      Zonal or common geraniums can survive at 25 degrees Fahrenheit while ivy-leafed geraniums will be killed at 28 degrees. In areas where these temperatures are common, geraniums should be moved indoors before the weather gets cold. The roots can be protected outdoors in USDA zone 8 by covering them with straw, leaves or other insulation, and the geranium may come back the next year. In USDA zones 9 through 11, geraniums can be protected by covering them with sheets or tarps if a record-setting cold snap is predicted.

      What garden zone are you in? Geraniums bloom during the warm season. Can it be that it’s still too cool where you are? Geraniums don’t need heavy fertilizing.! Use a general all-purpose flowering plant fertilizer.

      If you are in a warm growing season follow the instructions on the fertilizer package for the size container you have.
      Usually there are instructions to fertilize at certain intervals (weekly or monthly). Make sure to ALWAYS water your geranium before applying fertilizer to the soil so it can be better absorbed. Also water the fertiliZer in afterwards.
      The rule of thumb for fertilizer is “less is more!”

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  2 года назад

      Hi Ivy, Thanks for watching. In general, you want to let your geraniums dry out between waterings. Water once the top 2 inches of soil are dry to the touch. Don't water geraniums every day unless the soil fully dries between waterings. It's incredibly easy to overwater geraniums if you don't allow them to dry out between waterings.

    my dad planted 5 geranium plants probably 25 years ago. we inherited them and they are doing fine. they are 4 orange and 1 lavender. BUT this year, in one of the orange plants, a single white flower appeared! we have been tending them for about 5 years and we have never seen this before all these years. I know there are white geraniums, but can this also be a genetic fluke or variation on an orange flowered plant?

      Fruit flies can come from a number of things. Such things such as ripe, rotting, or decayed fruit and produce. They also enjoy fermented items such as beer, liquor, and wine. Fruit flies also may breed and develop in drains, garbage disposals, trash cans, and mop buckets. You may also have eggs/larvae in moist/damp soil for your plants.

    • @EdenMakers

      Hi Justin, Is it possible you might be overwatering them? One of the most common causes for yellowing leaves is too much moisture or overwatering. You only need to water your geraniums when the soil is dry. Make sure they drain well too.

    • @EdenMakers

      Thanks for watching my video and taking time to comment. If you heard me correctly, I mentioned to pinch AND deadhead your geraniums. The action I showed was deadheading the flower stem by using my fingers to pinch off the old stem.
      So my instruction was to “pinch off” the stem is because I used my finger nails. Had I used my pruners, I’ll probably just would say “cut it off.”
      I know that pinching is another horticultural practice and also another video! Look for my Upcoming video on pinching 101 where I pinch back coleus and chrysanthemums!

    It’s very misleading. I left my geranium out door for 2 days without watering in the early summer, it also most died over night. Now I water it every morning like crazy, the flower also grows like wild fire. Please at least have the plant you are talking about under your own care for 2 month before you give any care instruction to the public. It’s very upsetting when you care a new plant per “instruction” but end up it dying. Be responsible!

      I have a geranium ( pelargonium) collection for many years now and have planted probably hundreds of them during my landscaping career. Your plant is not typical. Geraniums are resilient in drought but at risk for root rot when over watered.

    • @sunwm2003
      @sunwm2003 3 года назад

      @@EdenMakers I just saw another of your video saying geranium likes water to run through which is the accurate way to describe how to water it. I have mine in hanging baskets, I water it everyday until I see water leaking from the bottom. The 2 inch wet dirt rule is not applicable to geranium. It need to be watered everyday at least in hanging baskets in full sun in summer. Almost 80% of any plant care videos on RUclips use the 2 inch wet soil rule as a guidance to water, which is a very sloppy way to generalize all plants need the same care which is absurd.
