- I have two succulent plants that are under grow lights, but haven't been watered regularly. That means they've got aerial roots, and they're pretty stretched out.
Because they're so stretched, it's time to do some maintenance! It can be scary to behead your succulents for the first time, but in this video I show you how to do it, and why it's worth it!

Thank you! As a succulent newbie, I really appreciate the great amount of info that I needed & which you clearly & succinctly packed into one little power-packed 13-min video. The follow-ups/outcomes are so essential to see, too! 😍👍🌵☘️
my pork and beans looked exactly like these! I'm definitely going to try your advice and start to water them more now. I was afraid of overwatering so much that maybe I went too far in one direction. Thanks and keep it up!
Very helpful - thanks!
Please show us how these look in a couple months. In the meantime, I will do this with a couple of plants that would be perfect for this treatment.
Your tutorial is most helpful!! Thanks!
It looks incredible!
Thank you!
I believe this is a sedum pachyphyllum , aka banana succulent ✨ so cute I have one , the tips are red I guess under grow lights it deepens the color looks beautiful!!!
I had a Ghost plant stretch in crazy directions( all short) & got aerial roots on it.. watered it & kept it in the indirect sun... now I have babies where all the aerial roots were.
I'm hoping this will work with my elephant bush that got really leggy.
I have one of those metal chopsticks from Bonsai Jack!
This was such a great video! I have a question about putting the leaves that dropped off back into the pot. Can the leaf be in any state or is there a point where it’s too dried/wilted where it won’t sprout roots? I’d like to try leaf propagation like you did in the video but I’m not sure what state the leaf needs to be in.
Here is a great post that will walk you through leaf propagation :) You will want the leaf to still be healthy for it to have the best result.

Time for a follow up to see how they're doing👍
Thanks for the suggestion 🙂
Hey just found your channel and just watched this video. Did you ever show an update on these?
Thanks for the suggestion we have not done an update on these yet.
I recently watched the panda plant video, but i may have missed an information that i was looking for. My panda plant is quite leggy/stretchy and i was wondering if i can use this technique that you used for the sedum and ghost plant on my panda plant? Or is there a different technique that meeds to be used?
yes you definitely can handle it the same way as described in this video. This post walks through stretching and how to deal with it as well:

When the babies from the stems get big enough can you cut them off and plant them for a more organized look?
Yes :) Just make sure to wait a few days for it to callous or scab over before watering.
I have a little baby growing out of a stem from a beheaded Graptosedum bronze. Can I/should I eventually cut it from the stem, let it callous and plant it?
Yes you can definitely do that :) As you said make sure to let the baby dry out for a few days after cutting, before you replant it.
My succulents take forever to grow babes after beheading/propagating them. How did you get them to sprout so quickly? I beheaded one 4 weeks ago and it's done nothing.
Succulents are slow growers, and it can take some time for propagation to occur.
Take a look at this post for some tips:

This ghost plant always loses the bottom leaves, it is so annoying! It gets so long even though its not actually stretched
What do you do with the original stems when they have babies on them? Do you pluck them off?
You can leave them attached to the stems until they're large enough to remove.
Can I do this with my jade plant?
Absolutely!
Is it better to plant succulents in a shallow pot or a deep pot. I've Bonsai Jack's soil. Should I be using it on all my succulents or can I use the ready made cactus soil and mix sand and perlite in it?
You can use the bonsai jack soil for all of your succulents. You can also try using your cactus soil with the perlite mixed in. Its most important to just have well draining soil.
Shallow and wider pots are usually better; a larger deeper pot can retain too much moisture in the soil when you water, contributing to a slow decline in your plants… Or fast LOL. Also if you think about it, imagine one succulent cutting on its own. Now imagine the root system on that one plant. Most of them enjoy tight spaces and route competition so to speak. This enables water to drain away quicker. If you put one plant in a giant pot, it’s also somewhat overwhelming for that small baby.
Being winter now, Do you have any suggestions for Heating a greenhouse?--Thanks Much
We don't have experience with greenhouses or heating them unfortunately.
how often should i water my ghost succulent if it's quite small and if it's in a small pot with other succulents??
Water whenever the soil is completely dry. You want to be sure it's paired with other succulents with similar light and water needs. If you find that it needs more frequent watering (or less) than your other succulents, it will be best to plant it on its own, or with others that have similar needs.
What do I do if I behead my ghost plant and it grows a full baby plant on the side and on the top?
That's great! It means more succulents for free 😊 Learn more here:

Is it necessary to leave such a long stem on the cuttings?
No you can certainly cut them shorter as well😊
Do you have to have roots on the cuttings before you plant them and water?
Yes you can learn more about propagation here:

@@Succulentsandsunshine Thank you this was so helpful!
You are very welcome!
What kinda soil do you have? It looks very gravely.
Its the gritty mix from Bonsai Jack, you can find it here:

Thank you!
Love the succulents. Wanna be friends
Why do echeverias grow healthy tiny leaves on its crown and remains that way for ages?
It could be from lack of light, but it sounds more like it could have a mealy bug infestation that hasn't been very noticable yet.
Thank you for the valuable information succulents and sunshine and it's much appreciated 🙏💐
I noticed that your soil is mostly stone grit soil. Not much actual dirt. Is that better for succulents...as opposed to having some dirt in there for soil mix?
You can read more about it here, but dirt holds water more and isn't as well draining. Hope that helps!

@@Succulentsandsunshine thank you much
It's a jellybean plant. Stonecrop.
Possible ID: Sedum Pachyphyllum “Salsa”?
That's it! Thank you for your help! Please email us at: support@succulentsandsunshine.com so we can get the tool kit sent out to you! 😊
Yes! I have one. Definitely Salsa. 😊
When I first got mine I totally thought it was a giant hybrid of pork and beans. Then I started noticing my standard baby blue sedum pachypyllum and realized how similar they look LOL…
That poor plant! Underwatered and burned. Breaks my heart to see a burned plant.
Looking attractive
That's Echeveria 'Minibelle'
