    January 2025 UPDATE
    By Way of update since our viewing of Pete's Dragon she sold and the new owner kindly dropped us a line to update us and bring us news of all the work he has undertaken. She is now renamed Dragon and after carrying out extensive work in Milford Haven the New owner with the mast unstepped motored the boat to Portishead on the Bristol Channel before making his way up the Avon Canal where she now lives while he continues the repair and referb work. We wish him the very best of luck in what is sure to be a great venture and we are sure the fruits of his labours will be a wonderful boat that will take him anywhere.

    Great insight. Well worth paying for a survey if you don't know what to look for.

      Thanks Robert very true, there are many areas that give pause. So survey is good advice indeed.

    I found the exact same make n model for 5 thousand dollars... problem is it has no engine....no sails.....and there's uncertainty regarding the keel as it's in the Water.....im just drilling some holes and adding a motor mound to put a long shaft outboard to sail it home- some 90 miles....Im stoked as this design is awesome ....it will be worth all the blood ,sweat n elbow grease to rebuild such an awesome vessel 😅

      Hi Thanks for your comment. Very interesting to hear you found the same model etc. also sounds like a far better price if there is much work to do as well. Have to say we loved the design and the space onboard and seriously liked the idea of being able to lift the keel and beach the boat. This alone opened up all kinds of possibilities and all kind of anchorages become viable. Sadly with Pete's Dragon we felt there was just too much work for the asking price. Mind you sine our viewing she was listed with a broker and sold so someone felt it was worth it.

      @@newkippertales7524 I'm in Virginia, U.S.A., not many of these vessels found here, I'm fixing to rebuild it for my needs- no joke I've searched 5 years for such a vessel - I worked in Boatyards, and have experience in such matters.... I'm so damn happy 😁 at the Moment...on Thursday I'm going to pick it up.... Going to raft it to my current vessel an Endeavor 37 Ketch....live on 1 and work on the Southerly

    As you say, keel is rusted, plates doesn't look good, bilge is awful, electricity need to be redone from 0, all the varnish are dead, lot of moisture. And we have no information about what cost the most on a sailing boat : sails & motor. So, to shortlist thist boat, you should consider working full time on it during approximately 6 months, with hard job to do (keel refurbishment), and taking some risk, because you can be sure you will have bad surprise. This boat is waiting for someone who doesn't know the amount of work needed to make it sails again.

      Hi Thanks for your comment. Yep I think your right on the money there, could well be a lot of skeletons in the cupboard here and a real Pandora's box once work started. There is a lot of work to be done and even at 30k which is well below market trends for these boats I think you could spend that again just trying to work through things. As you say it would be a full time job for a good six months for someone. To be frank, aspects of the appeal but the work does not.

    Right from the start I got a bad feeling about the hull.
    Did you see the rust comming out of what looks to me as a crack all around?
    If a boat like this goes for $60k and this is $30k , then this is a nobrainer.
    You will dump at least $30k into this boat before it is saveto sail

      Hi Thanks for your comment, Yes the hull would need a proper inspection by a surveyor me thinks. It also has to be admitted the Keel plate / ballast plate concerned me a lot given that if the seal between hull and plate breaks down then the water is direct contact with the inner workings and bolts etc. In this case that seal was very poor so who knows what damage has been done and as was suggested, the whole thing needs dropping and checking. May also have noticed some cracking at the front of the keel plate assembly.

    I have delivered several of these boats. Well cared for they can be good if this layout, draught and performance is whay you are looking for. But the lifting keel adds complexity and therefore cost. From experience. This complexity in design is their greatest downfall particularly as most of them have not been maintained as they should have been.

    • @newkippertales7524
      @newkippertales7524  6 месяцев назад

      Thanks very much for your comment, very insightful. As you say the keel is such a mixed blessing unless well cared for. Indications are its very expensive to maintain or get reconditioned and this example didn't inspire confidence in that area.

  • @martynreed5123
    @martynreed5123 6 месяцев назад +2

    Does not look well maintained prior to lay up, old lifting keepers can be very expensive and problematic ,don’t shortlist this one
