Have you been to the Dutch countryside?

Oh yes !! Born in Amsterdam where I lived for 40 years. My parents moved to Blaricum when I was around 20. I lived in Haarlem for a few years too.
I moved to California at 40. After 40 odd years (87) I still get homesick for Holland, especially for the countryside and the small villages 🇳🇱❤️

I live in Winterswijk about 25km from Lochem. Imo that's the most beautiful part of the achterhoek with the hilly landscape and all. Hope you had a great time over here!

We are a retired couple. We stayed the whole month of September there on a campsite in our own caravan. I rode my bicycle for many kilometers and visited all the places you mentioned and even more far away in Germany. We loved it. I visited a couple of water powered mills and some wind powered mills. That was great fun too.

That sounds like such a lovely trip and a great opportunity to explore the surrounding areas at a leisurely pace. I love taking my time when I travel to fully soak in the experiences.

I recommend you the provinces of Drenthe (around Dwingelo and Borger, great biking) and Groningen (Westerwolde along the German border) and when you like organ music go to the area north of the town Groningen and you find in almost every church an Schnitger organ of 16 century.

Great suggestions! I love Drenthe! Haven’t been there for about two summers but there is so much history and the landscape is absolutely beautiful. ❤️ I’m going to have to check out Westerwolde, never been there before.

Funny, I live near Lochem, belong to the municipality of Lochem. Funny starting to watch a video and immediately recognize where it is.

I admit: It's been a while since I have been in Lochem. We used to camp on camping de Ruighenrode when that still existed. It's a holiday park now I believe..

I hate cities and love the countryside, but this is embarrassing: we've been nearby, Deventer, Zutphen, Doesburg, Gorssel, Delden, but have never visited Lochem!

It was so peaceful! I’d highly recommend a short weekend to get away from the hectic city life ☺️
