Great advice Liam, after watching this video, factory reaet my Manti, now running it on full tones, and finding plenty. I do think people want the easy option of using someone else’s settings, but it’s much more fun having a tinker with your machine, and very satisfying when you turn up the goodies , and knowing you did it on your own 👍
Well explained Liam, I started back after 20 years with the simplex, then moved to the equinox 800 and the Deus1, now have the D2 the 800 and the legend, as you say just different meanings for settings, I did find the legend menu the set up the hardest to navigate until you get your head around it though, keep up the good work
I am late to the table, I agree 100% on the settings madness that everyone wants to know as if it will lead to buckets of gold! I would just say the mode I use and explain to them that my ground is not the same as theirs and if they use what I use it may not work well for them and I often adjust on the fly, so no day is the same, but it has become a major thing for some to ask what were your settings on groups and forums. Not only that, but I cannot remember them doing that when we had nothing but a few switches and knobs to turn, as in the days before detectors had a screen for VDI numbers or multi frequencies! Regard's and happy searching to all.
i never use it but on challenging ground conditions, would come in useful. just remember auto gb can gb on a good target also, making it undetectable. Good luck. 👨🦯
I actually used to have this same principle and that was when the manticore first came out i was telling newbies better to start with something simple but after a while i realised the visual cues the manticore offers is a third feather on your cap and it helps process information. Were all visual we process information better with audio and visual and many customers have run the manticore and said they cant go back to the nox or legend. Theres something in it. It all depends on what the detectorist wants ti achieve but target id has to be up there.
I would like to see a test to see how a given detector pings on a single pass over a given target instead of 20 passes in each direction which is to determine ferrous content, depth, size. But if a detector fails to ping on the initial pass then the target will be passed over. So it seems to me that the first ping is the most important.
you only learn your detector if you also dig the bad signals during your first 25-30 searches. During that time don't change to much your settings. Like you say, first the item should be there, you need to walk over it, swing your detector carefully, ... Do the same patch in different directions. Keep in mind that wet and dry soil are very different. And most of all enjoy when doing all this. Take your time, enjoy the weather, the clouds, the birds, the wildlife,.... most likely then average finds will give you the same good feeling as exceptional finds.
Comment sections are full of people who are criticising detectors when it’s them just not knowing what they are doing. I’ve given up on trying to respond now.
this is partly why i did this video, people after a quick fix where the quickest way is to just learn what each setting does, so then any detector you use , you wont be struggling with it
Did a comparison with my Arado 120b (some folk wont know what that is) and my nox800 on all different depths, metals, etc. they were both good but both years apart.
Man I been running the Beach program on the Nokia Legend and I am just. Killing it with coins surrounded with aluminum and iron I can’t believe it and it doesn’t matter wet or dry I would never need another MD just last night I got 4 old coins while my buddy got zero running the manicore
After having Nox800 for ~1y, Nox900 ~1y, Deus1 2y, Deus2 ~3m, and Quest q40 they all had 11" coils, and the deepest on coins was Q40 dag up many coins from ~40" depth, and with other brands maximum ~20"
I gave up on a few legend FB pages due to the immense lack of knowledge, patience, and the simple thing of being arsed to try things out yourself. It's great the people are coming into this great hobby but they seem to expect to be finding the next Sutton Hoo every Sunday by using a Liam or Syd programme Everybody 'should' have a bit of a test garden or even use deep plant pots to bury items, some mixed with random rubbish to learn their machines and the tones. I'm seriously considering buying a C Scope analogue machine, no vdi, just the sound of the ground as my next addition to the family.
Totally agree, truer words have never been spoken. People often ask me to share 'my program', but my settings change almost every time because I am tuning it to the environment, my goals, etc. Some people seem to think if they just copy some ones program they will start finding silver coins by the fistful.
There is a lot of subjectivity when it comes to metal detectors and their users. That means the best detector, is the detector that is best for the person that is using it. In other words, the subjectivity is similar to asking, "What's the best toppings for pizza?"
Recovery 7 If 1 s 1 o have a ton of old rusty bottle caps so I have it at 8 60 tone s. If no rusty bottle caps then zero ground B zero and auto gain 6 and full sensitivity
Great video Liam and a very good point you are making. I’m sure I fall into the bracket of purchasing an advanced detector and not knowing very much about tone settings whitch I’m reading up on and watching videos. Slowly but surely I’m learning what these settings are all about. I did go out last weekend and had a nightmare with detecting heavy iron that had a strong ping and was desperate to dig everything.
hello mate! you've been through a lot when it comes to metal detectors. You used Simplex+ and switched to more advanced devices, from other performance and price levels. Me, still as a Simplex+ user (for almost 4 years), I'm the situation where I want to go also to the next level. And now there is the eternal question: Is the Legend enough? Yes, the Legend is cheaper!! But are the performances at the same level as the Equinox 800? As for the level of complexity of the settings, I consider that the Legend leads. But not always more complex is better ;) Thanks. Hope you'll be able to choose and give a final answer: Legend or Nox 800 . Cheers from Romania
I carry a heavy plastic bag with me with heavy fishing line so the string doesn't tangle up with rings coins can slaw iron tied on one end and when I dig a target on that day in that ground I spend 20 to 40 minutes dialing in the detector and coil with combinations of masked and single hits adjusting tones and identifying visual idendicaters numbers etcetera
You're absolutely right. I've been guilty of that myself when I bought the Legend. I've eventually got to a point where I now kinda know what all the different settings mean and how they mostly interact. In the end others settings are particular to their land, requirement, targets, frequency of use, and whether you favour audio or visual display.. the advice I got mostly from your channel have been helpful. But in the end ... You have to at some point just use it.
If I assume that in proper english, you might have wanted to say " Where" is the "beast" mode "Nokta" promised us? Well just have a look on their website. They released it today. And there's more than the Beast Mode
Totally agree with you lad, it is not just metal detecting, the same principle comes across in online gaming, everyone of us are different so having someone else's settings isn't you it's them if you get what I mean , Mineralised ground f__ me, live in Merthyr lad most Mineralised land in the UK so much so it was one of the major places in the industrial revolution And most fecking idiots now are doing and saying the same crap that they are too busy to learn the settings 😅 crazy baby I only just had my Manticore a guy contacted me and sent me a video of his settings before the posty had delivered my machine 😮, My Nox 800 switch on and go factory settings for me boom some nice sweeties, Simplex on the beach small coil for me boom more sweeties lol .
Still not got my head round the legend yet Liam despite finding a lot of hammered I've not been out since October but will be back on my permission when the rain does one Regards Daz

Wow great video I was thinking on getting the Dues 2 my first detector but you have helped me rethink 👍🏻👍🏻
Great video well said my friend God Bless and happy dirt fishin…Virgil
Thanks, you too!
Would you say auto ground tracking with the legend is good?

I'm wiith you Liam. Also, I get pissed off at the snobs that won't accept any criticism of their overpriced detector.
