You don't cover your face to protest, because the whole point of protesting is putting your *self* out there, and showing that you are unashamed to hold a position in the face of opposition. "look at all those normal people who hold a position that I previously thought was fringe, I guess I have to explore the idea earnestly now." People come to their positions relationally, so a masked person isn't compelling. You cover your face to commit crimes and do things you *don't* want to be associated with. It seems like the modern paradigm for protesting is something like "be as annoying as possible until the other party aquiesces out of desperation." The problem with this strategy is that, while you may occasionally get results, you make people *less* sympathetic to your cause. Look at Just Stop Oil for a perfect example. Even those people, who have set their cause back decades at the behest of an oil heiress, are willing to show their faces. Calling this a protest is really stretching the definition. But as I'm told "words change meaning" so this entire post is actually a recipe for lasagna.
Incorrect. You did a great job stating your opinion, but it isn’t universally held. Some of us watching understand the danger of being identified by pro-Israel nuts (and other radicals on the right).
There is no need to receive death threats from the crazies, just cover your face and your identity is a lot safer.
The issue likely comes down to this: if you don’t like their message, you probably want them punished, and you want their identities to do so.
But regardless of your position on the conflict, the need for privacy isn’t something you should be telling other people to ignore
Sad thing is, this is the very reason the left succeeds in protests in some form while the right fails. The right will do modest things and put themselves out there to show their care. The left will do anything they can and will do what they need to evade the personal consequences.
