    We all know that we were lied to with inflation being transitory now that it has fully taken its toll on the economy and peoples monthly budget. The IMF just issued a new warning on inflation about how interest rates are likely to stay higher for even longer as inflation has been very stubborn to come down and may likely even continue to rise in this current economy.

    Increased losses for portfolios this quarter are predicted by market drops, skyrocketing inflation, a major interest rate hike by the Fed, and rising treasury rates. Since the late 90s when the U.S. kissed off its manufacturing sector and sold its soul to china and cheap chinese goods, we as a nation have become more and more dependent on the service sector for jobs. The problem with this paradigm is that service related goods (fast food, restaurants, hotels and Air BnBs) are things that people buy with discretionary funds. In other words these items are luxuries, especially when money is tight for the average U.S. consumer.

    • @MbisonBalrog

      It's tight because these jobs just don't pay enough to survive in with the increase in minimum wage.
      You really need to be making 100K in order to live a middle class lifestyle today. It used to be 60K-80K before Covid and now it's 100K-120K
      If Boomers keep charging over a million dollars for homes they bought for 60K back in the 70s then Millennials will never be able to afford any of those luxuries. Fast food is heading towards certain disaster IMO

    • @JohnSmith-zi9or
      @JohnSmith-zi9or 3 месяца назад +12

      Let me rephrase a little. In the 90s, the US sent its manufacturing to China. Soon after what was left went to Mexico. We send our dollars to China and Mexico to build stuff for us. They keep those dollars. They don't come back into circulation in the USA. We have become reliant on service sector jobs as most manufacturing jobs are gone. The USA is quickly depleting its cash and sending it to China and Mexico. In the late 80s, Shanghai had no skyscrapers. Now it looks like NYC. The USA is slowly going broke. The end.

I've never been really affected by economic transients as I live miles from my edge (another lesson from early departure and no help). People need to scrutinize their decisions on everything (especially debt). There are many vacations I've never had, many meals I've never eaten, many phones I've never purchased, cars I've never bought, clothes I've never owned and a crap ton of interest I've never paid. • @prolific1518
      @prolific1518 2 месяца назад +1

      @@Maynardd 1. CEO pay tends to be tied to stock price so it has no impact on the cost of insurance.
      2. Spending on advertisment brings more customers which in turn actually reduces prices to customers as costs are able to be more spread out among the customer base.
      3. Insurance companies being in skyscrapers is totally tangent to the conversation.
      Auto Insurance is more expensive simply because of the costs to repair vehicles (part supply shortage, wage rises in a labor intensive industry). Also vehicles prices have skyrocketed which means it's more expensive for the car to be replaced if totaled or stolen (also a problem as poverty grows, theft grows). Also the other commentator is correct. Because of the expense, people are choosing to go without auto insurance the same way people are choosing to go without home insurance.

      This free money had the special feature that it did not bring interest, but lost value every month. This meant that the expiration date of this free money could be set in advance. This free money was also tested "in the wild":
      In 1932 - in the small town of Woergl (Tyrol, Austria) the destroyed bridge had to be rebuilt.
      And there was no money. Silvio Gesell's idea of free money was taken up and the bridge was built with this self-depreciating free money.

I had a perfect opportunity to really cash in on my situation and I didn't because luckily there was only property damage and nothing medical. After the accident I had all kinds of lawyers calling me trying to turn it into something more. I got my property paid for and am happy for doing the right thing and some people are so selfish and would have put the family that hit me through so much from an honest accident and remember the same thing can happen to you someday. She can raise enough money through fundraising and selling T-shirts, but now we no longer have a teacher. We have these people who stream video games making more and more money. Now they no longer have to work their 9-5 jobs. How does this relate to inflation you may ask? Less and less work is being done, so that means money is not being made as much. A twitch streamer helps people watch entertainment, even if they're paying their taxes, they aren't fixing your food, fixing your roads, I mean some people have different ways of looking at it, but you gotta just see how more and more people do less of the real work now. On injuries in car wrecks you have to be cautions. I was with a gal in her truck in the 90s and some old woman lightly bumped into her rear end. Hoenstly there was tiny damage. Like a small dent, no airbags deployed and some paint scuffed. Cops asked us if we needed medical treatment or ambulance to the hospital. I actually laughed as I recall and said no.
    NEXT morning I wake up with a really weird pain in my center back and it didn’t go away for a week. Thing is in a wreck that energy travels through the vehicle and you don’t always know right away if some of it will channel through YOU. Oddly the gal I was with was like 90 pounds and maybe 5’ tall and was in the drivers seat and she never had any after effects , I was about 200 lbs and 6’2” but was on the same side of the truck the impact occurred on.
    No permanent damage so it’s all good but to be honest I probably should have been compensated a few hundred or a grand or so for being unable to do any strenuous work for a week.

    My car was totaled may 10th.
    I was in pain, and the paramedics told me I HAD to go in the ambulance (also my airbag went off)
    I have a lawyer who's going to take 30%.
    I'm still in pain today haha.
    At first the insurance company didn't want to pay the correct price for my vehicle. I had to get them to show me an explanation. They left out features. I sent them a window sticker and they gave me $2000 more.
    It goes both ways I guess

    So I'm seeing some stories in the comments about Allstate hosing people on their roofs. I bought my first house 35 years ago, loved that house, worked as a mechanic so I didn't have a ton of money (financing is a doozy on a variable flat-rate income). About a year in to it, Allstate sent me a "we're dropping you because of your roof, siding, tall trees etc. letter). Even back then they shared info and it was difficult to get insurance due to blacklisting people. I fixed all of the "problems" which was very substantial for me financially and finally found someone else to insure me. Allstate has been up to these shenanigans for decades. I told them I would remedy the issues and they said basically "go pound sand." You're in good hands, lol. I'm a "never Allstater". I am a fan of this channel.

Months later, wife was sure, found out the women totaled the Yukon a couple months later but apparently the injuries were from a fender bender with a controls that was literally half right at under 5 mph. It drug out for over a year because she wouldn’t let it go. Eventually, the insurance gave her some money with the agreement she had to pay the court costs. I imagine she ended up with mostly nothing.

    When I was younger pushing carts in the groc. parking, there was a senior couple going from store to store making hysterics in the parking lot and blaming the clerk of hitting their
    car or scraping it with the carts. This is how they got even with those horrible people in the store parking lot who hit their car or key scratch or sideswipe their car. I remember
    having to make my case that I didn't when an officer recognized them for their scam. Grown people pulling that s**t. I guess they got a better payout if the store had to pay the

    OEM parts also hold true for other things, for instance. The belt tensioner on my drier went out, none of the local hardware stores or appliance repair shop had any on hand so i get on amazon ordered one. It was a whole kit with new belt, tensioner and drum wheels, two weeks after installation it failed. Called up a local appliance repair shop they ordered me an OEM kit and had it drop shipped to my house. Three years later, still going strong.
    I bought my washer drier set used fifteen years ago and the were already five years old when i bought them. RUclips and OEM parts with regular upkeep and cleaning they should last until my retirement.

    The night and day difference in dealing with insurance after each was insane!
    After Ian I paid to have a 24ga metal roof installed and it was almost $40k.
    It should be good for 30-50yrs but I wonder how long until homeowners insurance wants me to replace it again...
