    Great video. I made me first piece of glass in 1989 and I spent close to $500 THEN. But I was so happy I did. And I still have those hand tools and inland Wizard glass grinder TO THIS DAY in 2022. I also know that is why I was so successful and I am still happily doing glass this very day. You are 100% right about that. You definitely get what you pay for.

    I've been binge watching a lot of your videos and finally got to this one and can I just say THANK YOU! You take a no BS approach to tools and equipment needed. I have watched several other videos of equipment needed and this is the FIRST time I came across a video that talks about tip tinner. Now I'm venturing down a rabbit hole of soldering iron care, but it's honestly the little things like this that make your videos so valuable. It's not just about keeping the prices cheap, but about prolonging the life of your tools - otherwise it's going to end up costing more in the long run. Thank you so much for this video!!

I know what you mean about not skimping on particular products, I’m a bit of a brand whore myself with things like dish soap, deodorant, toothpaste, cleaning products, and all so I totally relate. It’s like the difference between night and day, or between bespoke clothing tailored to fit your body and exact measurements versus buying clothing at fashion nova. Some things you have to choose for their quality and the soundness just as you mentioned. Thank you again for another very informative video!

Look at all the components and tools I talk about in this video, compare and contrast with the best kits out there now in 2024. See what is the right call for you and your wallet. 🖤🖤 Is this a hobby? Are you serious about making stained glass? Is the goal to sell it? Do you like name brands and the quality they can offer? All of these things will play into if you should even entertain a starter kit or not. 🖤🙏🏻 Hope this helps!

      @@MakenzieHallieThat does help and also that’s a good point. right now this is my hobby and I enjoy this so much I would love to do this as a side hustle or even just as a way to practice art. I know I want to budget for better quality tools so I was hoping there was a place where I could get recommended equipment from someone who is successful in this craft in one place. Often times I find a kit usually will bring down the overall cost and even if you have extra items I find I will use them anyways so I end up saving money in the long run. Art kits are a great example of this. I will definitely do more research and keep looking around.
      As an idea for you tho if you put together a kit with everything you need for taking stain glass to the next level I would definitely purchase that. My ventilation for example is a fan in an area with doors and windows open but a machine to suck out vapors might be a better/safer way to do this long term. (I would never have thought of that). Either way thank you again good luck.

    Ok, first off, I love the videos. I’m learning more from you than any other channel I’ve found. My wife loves plants and is going to get a greenhouse for them. Now, me never before messing with stained glass had the bright idea that I’m going to make her a stained glass sign to surprise her with to hang in her greenhouse. I’m going to buy the tools that I absolutely need. I feel your videos are so informative and with enough research on my part, I will be able to make her the sign. My biggest question comes down to the pattern. I have this sign in my head of what I want to do, but I’m a terrible artist. I saw your crystal stencil that you made, but how would I make a more complicated pattern and how do I number them to cut out? Is it all just random cuts and just piece it back together like a puzzle? Do you think it would be better for me to find someone and explain to them what I want and have them draw it up? I kind of want to do it myself so I can learn the skill, but don’t know where to start. Also, I was looking at cutters and there were two options: pattern head and straight head. What’s the difference and does it matter? Thank you for posting your videos. I’m consuming as many as I can. P.S. you were the only video that I’ve seen that mentions tinning the tip. I feel like that is the most valuable tip I have found. Thank you.

    M I love you and you as always gave lots of good advice. However, I really wish you’d stop down-playing the use of Groser/breaker pliers. If you are using more difficult to cut glass (opalescent/swirl) and are doing tight inside cuts, then Groser/breakers are essential. Running pliers are made for straight and gentle curve scores. There are plenty of reasonable options. The flat jaw on top does breaks, rounded jaw on top can remove nubs etc and can cut down on grinding. The other thing to remind people is that you need to replace grinder bits frequently depending on the amount of work you’re doing.

    • @MakenzieHallie
      @MakenzieHallie  2 года назад

      Well thats the point Jeanette! I dont use them. Ever. On any glass for any reason. I never have. Huge inside curves, on any glass you give me I do 1 score, and open with my runners. But if you use them and love them, thats absolutely ok! We all do things differently. ♡♡♡ And thank you for your support!!! 🙏🙏🖤🖤

    Because you work full time, how long do the supplies last before you run out and have to buy more?

    It's only 8 bucks for jump rings?I've been making my own🤔
    And I don't remember if I initially used tip tinner, I think I read that I could just cover the tip with lead and that would take care of it, I need to check that

    So I purchased a $60 Weller smoke absorber before seeing this. I kept going back and forth between the two before deciding to get the one I did. Have you had any experience with it or know anyone who has?
