Spotify were lucky that they brought this up while apple is already fighting the EU for all the gatekeeper rules. Since it already lines up with the same reasons why the EU is making it a mission to dismantle apple’s tech walled garden in the first place.
As an independent artist, spotify does not pay anywhere near enough. Apple music pays me roughly 10x more per stream last time i checked.
I agree with forcing apple to give consumers freedom, with standardized usb c and app sideloading, but what spotify did is just a cheap stab to try to kick apple while they’re down, taking the moral high ground meanwhile robbing millions of independent artists globally just to make new splits between themselves and record labels. Both companies suck to an extent, but spotify takes the award for “biggest dirtbag” in this situation
I hope someone does the same thing to them when they eventually fall
