    I'm in the classic car camp. I bought my 1999 knowing it wont make money or anything like that. I like to work on and semi-restore the car. My goal is ultimately to make the reliable and safe as well as fun to drive.

      Love it! And I'm finding it's so easy to work on because of how analog it is.

    I think I am more in the "Classic Car" camp. I bought my 2000 Boxster to have a convertible that would be fun to drive on mountain roads. Road trips that include the likes of the Beartooth Highway going from Montana and down into Wyoming. Driving the million dollar highway in southern Colorado from Delta going south through Ouray and Silverton with a side trip into Telluride and ending in Durango. Another trip from Steamboat Springs down through the central spine of the Rockies (the paved roads) and ending up down by Alamosa. Closer to home the winding roads of upstate South Carolina, then North Carolina and the Blue Ridge mountains are easy day trips for me. It is not the fastest sports car out there but a winding road and good tunes can lower the blood pressure considerably.

      That is EXACTLY what this car is for : )
      If I seem grumpy my wife tells me to go drive it and she is pleased when I return 30 min later with an attitude adjustment. I’m also 10 min from winding back country roads so it’s a quick and easy smile maker.

    Not sure which group I fall into. But I bought my 2004 S two years ago for couple of reasons.
    1) Nostalgia- fond memories of the late 90s, early 2000s. My roommate had 97 Boxster and I had 95 BMW convertible in San Diego. Driving boxster reminded me of how much I loved my first sports car an 86 mid-engined MR2.
    2) Design is iconic throwback to 1950s Porsches.
    3) Affordable with lots parts available and simple enough to work on yourself.
    4) No driving aids, analog feel and flat six engine.

      I totally agree especially #1 and 4. I love that there is a clock and a radio/CD player and that's it. When you get in it, you get in it to "drive it" and that analog feeling is so refreshing.

    I guess we are in the same camp. My 24 year old Boxster still is basically stock. Owning it now three years I’ve done the necessary maintenance at 67,000 miles. The only mod is the dual exhaust which was on the car when I purchased it. I just finished installing a short throw shifter.

    Hey dude my name is Kurt also! I have a 97 in Australia. I always wanted a Porsche and I stumbled on mine parked in the Street. I got it cheapnfor here butjad to get a few things sorted. Tue main one was the electrical connection in the door jam which are vulnerable to rusting out. Love mine and do as much work on it as I can it came with a Porsche cover! Been tossing up about going for a 996 but I love mine so much I can't find a good reason to. Keep up the content. I like your format.

      Thanks for the comment! Glad you are also having fun working on it to keep it going. It’s crazy how well these cars held up from a design standpoint over the years. They definitely don’t look like 25+ year old cars 😎
      I hope you find the videos useful in your Boxster journey!

    Porsche had it broken down to 7 types of owners for their cars. Had it taught to me a brand ambassador training. All of it was very interesting.

    Nice conversation. I'm in the 3rd camp. I have had my 2000 Boxster for almost 3 years, 3rd owner. Bought it at 175k, now has 195k. I just drive it (3 seasons mostly) and have only two things that are not stock/original: Stronger halogen headlights but minus the orange bits and a short throw shifter, this care of my local Nyack, NY Porsche experts. Top up or down, it's just fun and loves curvy roads in the country. Original IMS and original clutch.

      Original IMS and clutch! Wow! I can see the IMS being ok but the clutch wow!

    Yep, I’m in the classic car camp. This is my 2nd Boxster which bookend’s trips through 964 & 996 ownership. Have travelled throughout Europe in it, including Le Mans 24H. Work on it myself, easy to maintain as well. What’s not to like. 👍🏻🔴

    I have a 99 I picked up to replace an '84 944 that I bought as a birthday present to myself and sold a few years later. The 944 was a solid foot into the Porsche world but the '80s cars I could afford just didn't have enough grunt. The 99 feels like everything I could ever want in a car and even though mine is high mileage, it's worn it well and I never want to let this one go. I've been hunting down original parts and am aiming for as close to a new feeling original car as I can get.
    Looking forward to many more years and miles, cheers!

      Awesome!! Hope these videos help with restoring some of the worn parts. You are going to find its way easier than you thought.
      It’s a really fun car to work on.

    I was first introduced to Porsche back in 1977. It was a 1975 930 turbo 911 with the big whale tale. I learned to drive it on country roads with no traffic. It was SCARY fast. It was so scary my brothers wouldn't drive it. Just my Mom and I would get behind the wheel and explore what it could do :) After that, I owned several air-cooled 911s. When the Boxster was introduced, I loved the design but didn't think much about it because it wasn't a 911. Then I was given the opportunity to drive a 2001 986 in 2015. I was stunned by how well it ran and handled through some beautiful mountain roads. I was hooked and believe they drive a little better than the air-cooled 911's. I hope to drive a Boxster until I can't drive anymore! :)

    I bought my S new in 2003. It started as a daily driver/Nurburgring car while I was living in Germany and clocked up 60k miles with at least 10k of that done on track. I then moved countries, had a kid and was given company cars so the 986 ended up neglected in my garage for 8 years. I got it back on the road 3 years ago and it's now a Sunday/project car which I'm working through on my drive. It'll never be sold. Along with maintenance and restoration work, I'm just doing some light styling mods to freshen it up a bit (spacers, side stripes, black bits etc). It's now 21 years old, has 75k miles and is in great shape on the whole.

    I belong to the first group. I bought a 2001 Miata 4 years ago. 2 years ago I purchased a 1999 Boxster 2.7 because this car is a little more comfortable and faster. I really like driving both because they are compact and agile. And of course I enjoy driving with the top down when the sun is shining. I'm looking forward to the upcoming videos.

    • @Boxster986Fan
      @Boxster986Fan  5 месяцев назад

      That's even cooler that you kept both! So they must be different enough that you get a unique experience from each? Thanks for the kind words, I will be uploading a how to video today about the dreaded 996/986 Blend Door foam issue. That repair turned out to be way less scary than I expected and turned out great.

      @Carsten14 5 месяцев назад

      @@Boxster986Fan The Miata drives even more directly than the Porsche. It's a lot of fun to drive. I have no plans to sell it. It's rust-free and technically in good condition. Anyway I prefer to drive the Boxster because it has the flat 6 sound.

    Im in camp classic. I've loved the 986 since it first came out and I was a kid. It was perfect just the way it came from the factory. If I ever do become an owner, it will be of the most original one I can find. No cringey aftermarket lights or body kits that others have added in a silly attempt at bringing it up to modern styling standards.

    • @Boxster986Fan
      @Boxster986Fan  2 месяца назад +1

      I agree the simplicity of the body style is what I really enjoy about it too!

    Hey man, just found your channel and I really like the content. Thanks for creating it.
    I owned two air cooled 911s prior to owning my 2000 Boxster S. I thought my 911s were the shit until I drove the 2000 S. There’s just no comparison. The Boxster is superior in every way except for the nostalgia of an air cooled engine. Those are classic. But my Boxster will be a classic someday too because it’s what saved Porsche plus it really is a fantastic car.

    Got a 2006 boxster s in 2019, and is 100 % stock, and will keep it that way, did some repairs to the usual wear and tear of a 18 year old ca, and. nothing major ! No reason to modify something beautiful, special already, its a PORSCHE and Pinky L design and save the company with this car! Aloha from Hawaii

    Funny I belonged to all 3 groups.. had a Miata, “upgraded” to a 986S, then wanted to keep it original and improve it as much as possible.. after a year working on it.. with things breaking all the time.. I decided to move on.. a 1990 Miata has much better quality than a 2000 Boxster.. I ended up hating the car so much.. sold it and went back to a Miata..

      But I don’t blame you for moving on if you weren’t enjoying the car.

    What’s the point of having any car and not putting miles on it. Cars are meant to be driven!!!
