    One of the main reasons for getting a Chevy Colorado ZR2 with the diesel Duramax engine was to be able to tow my race cars to and from the tracks. In this video, we pick up my enclosed 18x8.5 trailer from Georgia, and tow it back 12 hours. How does the ZR2 do with pulling this large trailer?

    Just FYI for next time, that exhaust brake button also activates tow/haul mode. Tow/haul will allow the transmission to hold lower gears for longer and prevent gear hunt, which for bigger trailers like yours is highly recommend it be used. It will also downshift when going down hills or coming to a stop and allow the engine/exhaust brake to assist the normal brakes.
    Because your trailer was empty, I doubt that it would have made much difference, but once you load it down tow/haul mode should let it pull significantly better.

    Good vid -- but your trailer was empty- no? I think you said 2900lbs. I would not call that maxed out.

      In future videos I tow 6K pounds, but with such a large trailer, the wind resistance becomes an issue as well. However, it was very solid.

    That's the cool thing about small displacement diesel engines, they deliver lots of torque for such a small engine. They may not accelerate as fast as a gasoline engine of the same displacement, but so what? You're driving a utility truck, not a sports car.

    Towed my 23 ft boat from Florida to NY Fingerlakes region and back. Piece of cake! I95 no problem. Steam Valley PA climb no problem. Going back to sea level with the exhaust brake saves constant brake applications. 2017 with 97k miles and looking at our next one as soon as Covid production ramps back up.
    Oh, having a connector issue so I have a 2020 Colorado with the V6. So happy I got the diesel! I did not know the difference until now. Baby Max rocks. Thanks also to the TFL Truck guys. That's why I even considered this truck.

    Very impressive, not what I call a pretty truck, but the Duramax makes it a Lil beast. I know Fancy Gap really well, tough pull and the truck handled it really well, in my opinion the Colorado was a good purchase decision! Every Tacoma you passed just know how compared to you the drivers compared to you are suffering, Tacomas low seating position is awful for long trips.

    Im kinda shocked things went well for you with that small truck. I just did a 2500 mile trip from Ohio to Texas and back to get a car. I drove a 2002 Silverado 2500HD extended cab shortbed pulling a 24’ trailer. Many times I was glad I didn’t have a lesser truck. I always felt in control, but I could definitely feel the changes in airflow when even a small SUV would pass me. Actually semi trucks weren’t much worse. My trailer did have a flat front car your v-nose which may have helped you. Your mirrors were something I was thinking about too. I have tow mirrors, and even with them extended I couldn’t quite see around the trailer the way I’d like.

      It's crazy what almost 20 years of mechanical/technology advancement will do. I have a 2003 Tahoe, and it pulls my Toy Hauler fine. But these dmax Colorado's will blow the doors off many of the 99-06 GM products.

    14-16 MPG but diesel cost more than regular unleaded. 25%-35% more so it’s really like getting around 12 MPG compared to a gas truck. That’s the numbers you need to compare. Still probably better than gas pulling that trailer.

    Too bad you didn’t put a load in the trailer. I’ve had mine up to 12,000 lbs gross pulling mountains in B.C. and Alberta. 29ft travel trailer. However I don’t drive anything at 80 mph. If you drive it right, the exhaust brake works well. I installed Clearview extendable mirrors. Quality product easy to install. 2017 Canyon
    Duramax, SLT. LWB. Stock. Have had zero problems so far. Trucks been coast to coast in Canada, full gross weight. Towed a 5000 LB wood chipper multiple

    Good video, I love these trucks. Can you keep us updated if you delete? I am trying to delete mine but it seems that emissions intact tunes are all that is available now. And FYI that exhaust brake toggle is also your tow mode activation switch, not just for grade braking. Using it on flat ground and up hill is beneficial as it changes the injection and shift points to compensate for more weight. You probably would have gotten even better MPG if you had it on the whole time.

    • @FlyinGato
      @FlyinGato  4 года назад

      Dang, I didn't know about the tow mode giving you better results. As for the tune and delete, I've seen a few tuners still do the tunes, but now a days, you have to do the work of removing the pipes yourself, especially if you're in NY or Cali

      Using cruise while pulling a trailer hurts. Let the truck roll free down hills and don’t fret losing a couple MPH going uphill. Cruise doesn’t know these things but only maintains a specific speed. Your foot might be relaxed but the trans and motor will be working way more.
