New to the channel but my advice as a former club guy and if you are thinking about joining a club especially a 1%er take advantage of the hang around phase. Take as long as you need and ignore the pressure to start prospecting until YOU are ready.

The dichotomy of someone who deems themselves an “outlaw” to join an organization that requires adherence to a set of rules and bylaws that are, at times, more strict than society with punishment more severe has always fascinated me.

I was in a 3 patch 1%er club in Northern California i left in 2013 . But when i left and took a step back and look at thing because we all know that you get swept up in it like a tornado in that life . I honestly dont think i ever was a true 1%er . I propected for 8 mouths patched out but the 1%er patch was part of the patchs i never put work in to get that 1%er patch ( i was in a doul bike 2 patch club for years and they ask me and few other if we wanted to step up) . I have huge respect for most clubs it made me into the person i am today and tought me to stand up for my self and honesty even if ya gets ya socked up alway keep and stand by your word is everything exactly in that life. Also a thing i didnt have before getting into clubs was respect for myself and others now im huge on respect . Love your Podcastes.

Coming from northern California and coming up through the streets jail and prison system I believe that my instincts of seeing through the bullshit kicked in. I know that that life takes commitment and it's hard to juggle family and other commitments but like I said that life is infested with treachery

Personally I think the 1%er designation is appropriate to those who actually represent the 1% lifestyle in dedication. Being a true 1%er is a commitment and a dedication that only 1% of the motorcycle community has the ability to give. There is a distinct difference between a 1% mindset and a true 1% lifestyle. As has been talked about and pointed out a patch is just a piece of cloth and wearing it or any piece of material doesn’t make you anything. Similar to an example you gave in the podcast me putting on a Chicago Bulls jersey doesn’t give me NBA skills. I have a great deal of respect and admiration for those who have the level of commitment necessary to be a part of the 1%. As much as I would be very interested in learning more and considering being a part of one of these groups I know that the decisions, commitments and path my life is currently on are not in alignment with the 1%. In order to respect those who have earned their patches I will never pretend to be something I am not and I think there are a lot of individuals and “clubs” who should give that more consideration before they chose their costumes.

Coming from the punk music scene as well and then into motorcycles, I'm curious of whats the overall "mc" opinion is with "noticeable" patche(s) on the back of a vest. I currently ride with a vest with a huge ozzy patch on the back, another with one of my favorite bands "slumerican" and another with random punk bands/riding event patches, etc. No curved rockers, "mc", city/state, or diamond stuff. Its my understanding that what I rock is chill, and I am by no means "pretending" to be in an MC, but merely just rocking stuff I like, like i do at punk show, etc. Great channel btw, enjoying the content!

I’ve been attending all the events of one of the BIG FOUR MCs here in my local area. I donate quite a bit and buy support gear every time. A friend and coworker of mine is a patched member for many years. I’ve ridden with the club in one of the bigger RUNS. My friend does not wear a Diamond. Some of his brothers wear a diamond but not all of them. It’s a great group of guys. I’ve met so many people. Most of the patched members know me. I’m going to keep attending all the public events. When I go, I stay quiet and just observe. I only talk with patched members if they talk to me first. I shake hands with all of them. Other than that, I keep quiet and am very respectful of everybody. I smile and say hello to everybody. I have not asked my friend/coworker yet as to why some patched members wear the diamond and others don’t. I ask him questions, but I try not to ask too many questions. When you were a 1#er, and you wore your Diamond, we’re there brothers of yours who did not wear the diamond? Can you explain that?
