Its like this , any head will flow with the right porting.. CNC porting is the best. but most cheap heads wont last , cheap castings poor quality non heat treated aluminum bolt hole threads strip out like junk...

Idk. I bought a used pair off ebay. The pro headers brand and put on my 357. Now I just changed the springs and put them on the person I got them from might of had them worked. I also put 1.6 roller rockers and a performer rpm intake on instead of the single plane that was on it. The bottom end is .040 over flat tops comp 280h magnum camshaft and it had some junkyard smog heads on it. Way wore out. The bottom end was built by Dale Smith which is a very reputable machinist but the top end was just thrown together with stock stuff and a single plain intake. Was like that when I got the truck. Anyway seat of the pants feel I would say 75 more horse easily. Exactly what the bottom end needed. I'm really pleased with the heads and they've been on the truck over 2 years now.

Only bad thing about the american head is the lack of the vortec intake bolt pattern. Makes it hard to use under a L31 intake.

I have personally hand Ported a set of the aluminium CAL-Flow 200cc heads, which are also a copy of the Dart Pro-1 200cc head. Mine were a set of Angle plug heads. I left the factory 3angle valve seats alone and only checked that were good, suprisingly they were, anyway i used 2.02in and 1.6exh valves, but I did open up the throat, bowl size, and done extensive full port. Pushrod pinch was set at 1.050" I could have gone bigger. Port matched to 1206 gaskets. On a std 4" bore small block, with a 383 crank for 379ci and using a 3310 vac sec Holley, ported professional products single plane, 1-3/4 headers, Ran 11's at 118 for the 1/4 mile with, th-400 and 9" with 3.00:1 diff gears, weight of approx 3400lbs including full length dual exhaust with mufflers on D.O.T street tires driven to the track. Could only leave off the foot brake at idle, anymore and it would smoke the tires to half track.

I have to wonder how many American head companies are having their castings done in China or elsewhere ? I work for a Piston Ring Foundry in Michigan , 23 years now , (formerly Federal Mogul ) , and we were having rings come in cast in India years ago . The rings were such bad quality with porosity like never seen before , we had to re-melt them and do them ourselves . Sadly , Tenneco automotive bought Federal Mogul , and about 7 months ago they announced all piston rings will be made in Germany and India as of July , and our plant is all done . I have also seen Edelbrock stuff for sale at parts stores that say made in China , right on the boxes . Hooker headers has their stuff made in Mexico , the list just goes on , sad but true .

These exact heads are being sold by both AFR as the enforcers and by blueprint as well as others.. I'd say a lot of american head companies are offering chinese casting as cost effective options mainly because its catching on that the chinese heads have been improving in quality and because they want to have a cost effective option for those budget minded customers.

What do you think about the ProMaxx heads? I’ve got a set of their 195 cc angle plug, 64cc for my Chevy 355. Any opinion is welcome. I did see posts by Headbites, which shows a bunch of advantages that they have. I did a porting job on the bowls, gasket matched, and polished the chamber and exhaust ports

The Maxx series are good, however the Project X215 are outstanding heads, that is what would use even on a 355 if couldn't muster AFR cost heads. Even their freedom series heads are decent and are the venerated freedom series heads by you know who. I am believe Promaxx no longer names the freedom series the same, half to check again to see what they are doing. So in order from decent to more decent are = Freedom series, then more decent the MAXX series, then most decent Project X! Yup for the price especially i choose the Project X215 heads. Just a really special head that turned out great. Ask Eric he dynoed it.
