  • Tying umbilical cords may seem scary.
It's an easy fix though! Dont get too close or it might create a hernia.
Unwaxed, unflavored dental floss and medical snips are all you need.

You don’t. The cords will fall off in 2/3 days. Ask your vet for betadine soaked gauze to drip a drop on to the cords every 8 hours for 3 days. It makes healing faster and cleaner.

So when they come out you need to wait 3 minutes to cut. Itll turn white when the blood goes back in to the body.
This is very important because there’s an insane amount of blood oxygen in there. If you cut too soon they can really struggle.
Also don’t go too close to the belly. Going too close can cause trauma which leads to hernia and other things.
You’re also going to want something like diluted betadine to put on them every 8 hours For 3 days.
I personally have never done a natural birth so you may want to talk to someone more experienced in that area but yes, that’s the general idea.
Again I would get the betadine from your vet. If you don’t dilute it properly you can damage the cells further but it prevents umbilical infection which can be deadly.
Look up hemostats to clamp off just in case.
Good luck! Hope everything goes well!
