Worst case, the battery might short and explode. It is probably more realistic that the driver would burn up and the circuit may fall apart before the cell gets a chance to explode. I posted a video last year where the driver started smoking and burnt itself due to the battery being inserted backwards. I tested reverse polarity protection with a protected cell at the start of this video, this just caused the protected cell to cut-out temporarily.

There should be a E7-B2 or E7-B3 near the spring in the head if it is fixed.
