AGREED. I was at my local game store asking about Wingspan and the proprietor, while acknowledging that that was a good game, said it was not as good as many others. I saw Watergate on the rental shelf and asked her about it and she was like, "Excellent." I rented it and immediately wound up putting that rental fee towards purchase. Love this game.
My wife and I played this game more than any other this year, and I bought a copy for our friends and another for my brother. So good.
Huge twilight struggle fan who now prefers watergate due to ease of play. Wish this game was discussed and played more

My friend and I idolized Nixon in 11th grade American History class. It was 1998. I found some Nixon 72' election pins and stickers. We used to wear them. Every so often in the middle of the class my friend would turn to me, get my attention, and say 'NIXON'!
It was great fun. This game looks great just for the history lesson.

Ahhhhhhh, I feel that this review came just a few weeks too late. This game was completely off my radar, but given this review I would have definitely snatched this up at Essen. My wife and I are always looking for great two player games. Living in Germany I have no clue how I can get an English language version at a reasonable price.

I really, really want to play this game, probably because I lived during the Watergate scandal (I was only six or seven though).
Charlie Richards I was living in the DC area and was a little bit older, 12 and I have a pretty good memory of it. My wife’s Dad was Secret Service for Nixon and was responsible for securing the evidence for the President. We have got this game right after it came out and we have played it several times and really enjoy it. It’s funny how you really get into character with the game. I recommend this game!!!

Hey Tom, Please do a review of "Wir Sind Das Volk!" The real baby brother of Twilight Struggle. AMAAAZING game!
Was playing this with my friend and he told me I made an illegal move. Since I was playing the Nixon side, I simply said "when the President does it, it's not illegal."
The game is really really good. My son and I play quite often. This is replacing Duel for most played 2 player. My only critique is not the game itself but the bibliography and background info in the rulebook. The game designers used very one sides sources for their background info and suggested reading list. I am by no means defending Richard Nixon, I would just suggest some other sources to give things a little more balance. Nixon did have many accomplishments as President, again not defending his actions in Watergate, but the reading list provided is pretty one sided. As you enjoy many Kickstarter Games or Board Games in general, that are made in China, Nixon is a big reason why relations were opened with China. However, the game is excellent.
Would the sources you sugget hypothesize that the Nixon campaign didnt break into DNC headquarters and then try to cover it up?
@@PierrotLeFoul not at all, my point is that Nixon is way more than Watergate. The bibliography of the game is unbalanced and only presents one side of Nixon. I am not at all challenging what Watergate was. However, using John Dean's book as your main source of information is extremely one sided. They could have suggested more objective sources.
Was anything they said false?
Obviously any information in "Watergate" will center around Nixon's lowpoint, watergate. If the game was about the whole term of Nixon I would agree but I'm very concerned by your hyper neutrality stance.
Nixon was a fine president but he abused the office and deserved to be thrown out.

@@theshogunstein6475 I have not read the rule book but this seems like an odd stance to take. Defending the honor of a dishonorable president or republicans in general.
Be interested to know how slanted the info in this game is. I don’t like politics in a historical disguise. Other than that, it looks very good. x-file-ish without the aliens.
The game, and info within, is strictly about the Watergate scandal. It doesn't have anything more general to say, so there's really nothing to slant. Should be fine.
