LED ZEPPELIN - 50 YEARS AGO - KYOTO JAPAN 10/10/72 - FULL SHOW BIRTHDAY PLAY ALONG !

- 50 years ago today, I turned 6 years old and Led Zeppelin played this concert at the Kaikan Hall in Kyoto, Japan. It's an unusually short show because apparently the band was on a timeline to get the last train from Kyoto to Tokyo for their return to England. Consequently they dropped a couple tunes and play many of the songs at a faster than usual tempo. They sound a bit rushed actually, but they are all in good form and it's a pretty tight show.
I decided on somewhat short notice to do a play along for the occasion. This was all recorded in one take and it was the first take, so there are a lot of warts! As you can see if you watch the whole thing, there are several times where I come off the rails because it's really hard to hear the beat with a rough audience tape like this. Very frustrating at times... I often felt like I was groping in the dark! Especially when it's fast and loud like Dazed. I completely fucked up the entrance to Rain Song too, which was very annoying because it was hard to distinguish the beat at that point. Whole Lotta Love is pretty raw too! LOL.
I don't think I will do another play along to an audience tape like this, too hard to hear and it's also hard on my ears. That said, this was still a lot of fun.

As right as you are, I also get the same way George does. He's probably a perfectionist, and as shitty as it is to beat one's self up, without it, I doubt George would be as great as he is. It's both a blessing and a curse.

I think this is my favourite of the full shows you’ve done, fantastic job with a less than perfect bootleg, a missed que etc doesn’t matter to me when listening to a performance, Im a John Bonham fan for the musicality of his playing, and this was a very musical performance bravo George 👍

I wonder if the boys in the band ever struggled with hearing each other, especially with the way the acoustics and sounds systems were back then too. Yes indeed they sound a little accelerated that gig. It's one of the things that amazes me of Led Zeppelin, every night was different. Bravo and Happy Birthday, you are no doubt one of the better Bonham players and geeks in the entire internet.
And don't frustrate, it's very hard to play to Zeppelin live, because they often tend to alter the tempo, at will and for me that makes them even better, because it's like their songs are breathing and have their own life.
